Chapter Eleven, Part Two

The morning dawns, slightly grey and overcast, with a forecast of showers breaking up by afternoon. The Rigg mansion is a-bustle with preparations for the scheduled tea. Freyja quietly hustles Ghang's sword back into her room, set up the same as before, since it looks like they'll be there for a bit. She wistfully glances at the barn... then sighs and shakes her head with a smile. Maybe later she'll get to ride some.

Some of Freyja's discomfort with events at home is deflected by Master Roakkana, who casually informs the household staff that for this informal gathering of Jedi it would be best for Freyja to appear in her usual Jedi clothing, rather than any of the more complex Balmorran outfits. They, seemingly disappointedly, agree and withdraw gracefully.

Freyja grins with brightly amused blue eyes up at the placid Wookiee pacing along next to her, Thanks. Zero personally finds Jedi robes appropriate for any occasion; then again, he reflects, his cultural conception of a tea ceremony is rather substantially different.

Freyja seems to glow in the light, her fiery gold mane dancing freely about her golden face. She's a willowy, long legged, golden skinned woman with silver-blue eyes bright with serene happiness. She wears a snugly fitting, armless, black leather jumpsuit zipped up the front to the mandarin collar, covered by a loosely flowing, dun overcloak, which also covers her bare golden shoulders. The poncho-style all-weather cloak obscures her laden utility belt, while her feet are shod in well-cared-for black leather boots. She moves lithely as a dancer, strong and sure.

Tea is served in a pleasant room decorated in bright frescoes of ancient myth, the stories separated by a carved wooden Jormungandr which crawls, apparently endlessly, all around the room. High windows let in light and guarantee privacy. The huskarls (excepting Vakkal) withdraw, leaving cushions and a low side table of traditional favorites with a couple of notable off-world additions -- including tea from Kashyyyk.

Freyja settles with her Family of the Heart, waiting for their Jedi friends to arrive. There are a lot of them expected, she knows... Watcher Manishsha, Jedi Colburth, and all five ex-Templars. She politely welcomes the various members of the group as they arrive. She gives everyone a chance to settle comfortably on their various sitting cushions and sip their tea before she smiles and says, "So... how are the members of the rogue manus doing?"

Zero quietly examines the tea settings, turning a cup slowly in his fingertips. His father had little use for courtly practices, but his mother would never forgive him a poor showing at a tea ceremony -- even an offworld one. He makes a note of a few simple, tasteful compliments he might make if the need arises. As the others arrive he sets his cup down and observes silently.

Watcher Manishsha says, "They're still asleep. I'm haranguing with the Jedi Council to let us do something about them, rather than shipping them off to a different location. There are things I am sure we'll want to ask them that will be very difficult to do once they are out of sight and perhaps under Seal."

Freyja neatly folds her overcloak and puts it behind her, out of sight. The sleek black leather gleams softly with good care. She thinks it's sufficient nice for the tea. She nods to the Watcher, then says, "If you can, I'm sure we'd all love to hear what's learned from them. If we're to try to discover the rogue training facility, the more data the better, I feel."

The Kushiban nods, "I will be happy to share with you whatever I may find. As yet that is nothing."

Freyja has a small sip of flower-scented tea, then sighs with quiet contentment. What next... she looks around, then smiles, "So, Jedi Colburth, I hear this former manus and you argued quite a bit on Dantooine. I do hope any hard feelings are soothed over, hai?"

Jedi Colburth says coolly, "I'm sure we were all doing what we felt we must, and that we all had our reasons."

Freyja inquires politely, "May I ask a question, honorable Jedi?"

Colburth says, "Of course," and looks attentive.

Freyja says, "I don't know what the argument was about precisely... but it appears you did not believe the former manus here was intending to leave once the rogue manus had been captured. Did you not know about the rogue manus?"

Colburth says carefully, "We had quite a number of discussions, Freyja. We were never able to agree on the validity of their presence as a manus. The fact they had a defined goal and an exit strategy does not mitigate the fact they should not have been there. In some ways it may have made it worse; they knew they should not have been there."

The Ishi Tib speaks up at this point, "The rogue manus should have been there even less, and that is why we went -- to resolve that and leave none there. Did we not make this clear to you, Jedi Colburth?"

Freyja looks puzzled, "Er... but hadn't they honorably left the Templars first, as you did also? Is there some fact I'm missing here?" She adds with a smile to the former manus, "Please don't let my queries stop you from the statements you previously informed us you needed to give to Jedi Colburth, also."

Jedi Murn, the Gungan says, "Colburth, we know we treat you badly. Having to do what we did be one of the most difficult things we ever do as Jedi. All ways forward looked equally bad. We chose way seeming least damaging. We try to look out for you, keep you safe. Not know what we could do but our best, and that what we tried. Not sure we do what we did again, but was what we saw as right. I know I sorry we had to make this choice, and sorry what happened."

Avarras adds in her whispery voice, "I too sorrow for what happened. Sith have placed Jedi against Jedi, and all are doing what they see as right. We know you do what you needed. I hope you understand we did only the same."

Freyja watches silently, absently brushing back a curling strand of fiery-gold hair, then soberly adds, "I fear I also may have done the wrong thing on Dantooine." She waves a slender golden hand at the former manus, adding, "It was a comment one of them made which got me thinking about whether my insistence on going to Dantooine to rescue Colburth was truly the right thing to do. I thought so at the time, of course. However... if the rogue manus had been about to leave already, you all would have left too, taking Colburth with you. We would not have stirred things up there by our presence... and maybe Sith lord Methel-ssa would still be alive."

Freyja continues, unhappily studying her tea, "For her death at the hands of the Fan... I feel somewhat responsible." She adds gravely, "Now it is my hope Master Sarn reported only what he was told, not what he saw... and perhaps he was lied to by the Sith."

Dorn says, "We should be ashamed of ourselves, all of us." When people look at him startledly he explains, "We five, and you, Colburth, were clinging to dogmatic values and goals and inappropriate oaths, and we refused to budge. The unmovable object met the unstoppable force, and it was unpleasant. Rather than any of us being willing to bend just a little, we did things that we all regret."

He gestures to Freyja, "Here is a true Jedi... this one is worried her actions might have damaged someone, despite the fact that that someone is a Sith Lord who manipulated worlds and ordered the deaths of any who opposed her. How can our peevishness stand to this?"

Freyja blinks a bit startledly at being called a true Jedi... then smiles a bit hesitantly, "Ah... thank you, Jedi Dorn?"

Dorn says, "The truth is always appropriate. As I see it, the five of us were fools, and Colburth was a fool, and you leapt in and helped us see sense." He tells Colburth, "I'm sorry I was a fool, Jedi Colburth. I hope very much we can all get over our mistakes and make things better for the future."

Freyja glances a bit shyly at Master Roakkana, not sure whether she should really believe the compliment... then smiles at Dorn's continued statement. She's pleased he's trying to patch things up. Considering the Calefactors are effective, hidden, and apparently rich in resources, she definitely hopes the Jedi can pull together strongly to stop them. Zero listens attentively. He isn't used to hearing institutional praise; coming from other Jedi, he would almost think he misheard.

Roakkana smiles at Freyja and murmurs, "Honor and integrity was not something I had to teach Freyja. She had that already. She brings out the best of people by her high standards for herself." Freyja blushes hotly, and avidly studies her tea for a moment, caught speechless. Her shared mental delight, however, is reflected in the quiet quirk of happiness at the corners of her lips. She whispers, beaming mentally, Thank you, Master.

Colburth has gotten quiet. Thov Rhul'las, the Bothan, speaks up, "Colburth, I got to say I sorry I shot you in the back. It was low and wrong, and I feel bad about it now, and I feel bad about it then. I hope someday you forgive me for abusing your trust so."

Colburth says, "Oh, stop, Thov. I was about to try and stun you or Avarras, to keep there from being five of you... you kept me from doing something I was unhappy about. Don't feel badly about what you did. I was on the same path, and it would have been no less wrong."

He adds, "I think Dorn is right, as usual." Murn interjects, "Aack, don't encourage him!" and Colburth continues, "We were both hardheaded about what was okay and what was not. It led to a really unpleasant place to be. For my part, I'm sorry I pushed so hard. I accept your apologies, and hope that you can accept mine. I'd much rather work together than continue to be wary of each other."

Freyja brightens with pleasure, watching the Jedi settle their differences. She says hopefully, "So... you're both all right with each other now?"

Murn says, "I not think we never not all right with Colburth. I think we just not able to agree with him." Thov nods, "Colburth has always been a good man and a good Jedi. The idea that he sticks to what he believes in does not change that about him."

Colburth looks momentarily embarrassed as he says, "I don't know. If I'd been a better Jedi, maybe I would have helped, like Freyja did, rather than fighting you." He adds, "Now that we're out of that horrible place, I'm very glad to be able to work with you all."

Freyja beams, "Oh, good! I was hoping things could be amicably settled between you -- because I think we're desperately going to need to have a united front very soon!" She thinks a moment, gently swirling her tea, then adds reflectively, "For example... have you noticed there are an awful lot of Jedi here currently? Why do you suppose the Force feels that is currently necessary?"

There is a moment of quiet, and Manishsha says, "Perhaps, Freyja, you mean the message we got from Master Sarn? It could bode difficulty indeed. I have not shared it with many... perhaps we should discuss it now?"

Freyja shakes her head, "Not what I meant, but that's terribly important too, hai." She smiles a touch ruefully at the Kushiban, "Hai, let's share this, please."

Murn asks, "What you mean, then?"

Freyja makes a 'patience' gesture, then pulls out her datapad and glances at the Watcher, "Shall I play it for everyone?"

The Watcher says, "Now might be a good time. I can bring the Jedi at the monastery up to date when I get back."

Freyja nods, then sets the datapad to run Master Sarn's worrisome message. She sits back and watches reactions, herself. The Watcher watches too. The message, though short, leaves several impacts. Thov whistles between his teeth in quiet horror, and Murn says, "Ghang fleeing means no peace, yah?" Colburth says, "At least Sarn got out, and has some people with him."

Freyja nods quietly, waiting before everyone's finished speaking before she murmurs, "Master Roakkana thought perhaps Watcher Manishsha might be able to farsee and speak with Master Sarn...?" She looks at the Kushiban, "Is that something you're strong in the Force in? Because if you can, there are some critically important questions to ask, I think?"

Manishsha laughs, a short quiet barking sound, and says, "There are many, but I don't have that ability at all. Someone else will have to try it."

Freyja sighs, murmuring quietly, "Well, wolf-feathers." She considers a moment, then looks up at Master Roakkana, "What do you think, Master Roakkana? Could the two of us try together, or with the Watcher linked in as well?"

The Wookiee says, "Together we might try, yes. If the Watcher is interested he may join us. I believe I know Master Sarn well enough we could do it without the assistance, if the Watcher felt his time would be best spent elsewhere."

Freyja glances inquiringly at the bunny Jedi? The Kushiban says, "I would be interested to see what you can do if we can find the time. If I recall correctly, farseeing takes some time."

Colburth asks, "What questions would you ask him?"

Freyja smiles, "I think we've got time... three weeks, to be precise, in order to find out a great many very important things." She considers, then adds, "For example, how many refugees are with him? Are they all Khar Velosi? What skills do they have, and are any of them engineers?"

Freyja pauses again, then adds a bit worriedly, "What happened to the Vice Chancellor and his folks? Um, what else... ah, what kind of ship was Sarn given -- does it have one of those invisibility fields on it? Also, how was Ghang injured -- physically or in Force? Did he ever get the actual prophecy the Sith farseers gave regarding how to stop the war?" She sighs quietly, closing her eyes for a moment, then says softly, "Does this mean the peace talks are over with?"

Manishsha says, "Those all seem good questions. I might throw in a simple, 'What happened?'"

Freyja grins quietly, "Hai, that too. I have some guesses on that, however." She looks around inquiringly, "Would it be forward to present my thoughts for you all to critique?" A general murmuring of quiet "No"s and shaking of heads encourages Freyja to go on.

Freyja nods, swirling her tea gently as she organizes her thoughts for a moment. Then she starts speaking, "It would appear the Fan strikes against the Ghang, and Master Sarn states Sith lord Ghang insists the Fan is not mad. Therefore it would seem to be a power play, for the Fan has slain the Sith lord governor placed on his world by the Dark Lord himself."

Unwittingly Freyja's cadences and gestures fall into those of the storyteller, "The Ghang must therefore repair the Malice with all due speed, both for the power and the symbolism -- the Lord of Khar Velos must not appear defanged. The longer the Malice is in travel, the weaker the Ghang will appear. Thus the Malice should go to the closest planet with repair capabilities -- and the Ghang himself must go to the Empire, to fly a flag of strength, to demonstrate he still has claws."

The assembled Jedi listen attentively. Freyja smiles, "So... doing some guessing based on what I've learned about the Empire, unless there is a world in the Empire which is closer than Balmorra which can do major battleship repairs... we should expect the Malice here in three months."

Dorn says, "What?!"

Freyja says, "However, it would be remiss of the Ghang to not warn us. This is why I feel we absolutely must speak to the Sarn as soon as possible, for we may receive a message in the choice of ship he flies, and the skills of the assembled refugees with him. Also, I expect the Ghang will attempt farseeing in the fourth week from now -- which will be after Master Sarn's arrival."

Freyja adds thoughtfully, "This is one of the speculations I had as to why so many Jedi are here now... to guard the people from fear and harm. I admit, it is a bit early still, however... which is why I speculate sometime between the arrival of Sarn and the Malice... the false Red General will arrive."

Thov whistles again, and says, "Dorn, Balmorra closest major shipyard. He need help... he come here. We willing to give that help? We got right to say no?"

Freyja adds slowly, "There is a part of me also which wonders if the entire set-up on Dantooine by the Calefactor manus was to gather information to inflame the Council on Coruscant... to keep the small boy from Dantooine happy. That small boy... is the false Red General."

Freyja adds cheerfully, "And of course, if the Ghang is successful in establishing his power, maybe we'll get lucky and the Fan will get slapped down by the Dark Lord! They did promise, after all, they'd start pulling back from the invaded planets once we took care of the two men they worried about -- Khoud and Kalatis. We have. I think it's reasonable to insist the first world they pull back from be Dantooine, don't you?" She grins, her eyes sparkling.

Avarras says, in her soft way, "Red General very bad sign. If Senate agrees to use Jedi in war and give permission, if General at head, many will feel Jedi unstoppable. May even be." She asks, "Why you say false Red General?"

Freyja says, "Because he's not the real Red General. It's just the iconic sword he bears which makes him seem powerful. You remember -- we spoke about this on Dantooine to you, hai?"

Freyja adds, "Considering his fears for Dantooine have been played up by his handlers, from what we've heard, even though he was a babe in arms at the time, and his sword wants to destroy other iconic swords, it was my hope we could persuade you all to remain here and help protect Master Roakkana and anyone the boy feels is a Sith and/or from Dantooine... while we do our best as the triat to destroy the iconic sword."

Freyja looks around a bit hopefully, then adds pragmatically, "I don't think there'll be a Red General this time around." Not if Paladin Diana has anything to say about it!

The five not-a-manus members look at each other, then say almost as one, "Of course we'll stay." Colburth is only a moment behind them, and Manishsha smiles wryly, "I'll be around, yes." The Kushiban adds, "I suspect you'll have a hard time getting rid of Master Sarn, too." He grins, and does not go in to why he says this.

Freyja beams, "Thank you all so much!" Her tone is genuinely relieved. Then she adds thoughtfully, "So... what do you think of my speculations regarding the Sith squabble we're seeing, so far? Do they seem reasonable? I realize we'll need to do more research by farseeing Master Sarn..." She grins at the Kushiban, then adds, "but aside from that, with the data we have so far... did I miss anything you can think of?"

Master Roakkana says, "Your suggestions are good and well thought, based on what we know now. There are a great many unknowns, some of which we may plumb and some we may not. What else can we prepare for that might come to pass? What is our primary concern?"

Dorn says, "Protecting Balmorra." Avarras counters with, "Stopping this Red General."

Freyja thinks for a while... then says firmly, "We must help the Council of Balmorran Hausa resolve their issues, so we present an united front when -- if -- the Malice arrives." She adds with a small grin, "There is some... odd data there too. Also, even though it was gathered by the false manus, the information about the mind control on Dantooine should indeed get out. The Balmorran aristoi need to know it's not all wondrous now." She curiously adds, "Will the Council on Coruscant be enraged at that news? Are they likely to send the fleet to Dantooine?"

Master Roakkana rumbles, "The Council may or may not be outraged... but many of the people will be, and that could force the Council to act. Rioting in the streets will do that."

Fhazil suggests quietly, "Preventing the bifurcation of the Sith Empire. A three-way fight would be far worse than just a two-way war. Everyone would be a loser. It is important to do what can be done for Lord Ghang."

Freyja gives Fhazil a curious look, "Do you really think the Fan would attempt war within the Empire? Surely he'd do better to draw the ire of the Dark Lord down on the Ghang?"

Fhazil says, "If his real target is the Dark Lord, he might attack to give the Dark Lord another distraction. Invading Jedi is something that could not be ignored, and it would weaken the Dark Lord's holdings and hold on the Moot."

Freyja's eyebrows fly up, "Gracious, I'd completely forgotten what fear they hold us in! Thank you, Fhaziza, for reminding me." She shakes her head in wry amusement, "The entire concept of 'Jedi witch' is so ludicrous to me I have trouble remembering there are those in the Empire who take it seriously." She falls silent, considering.

Nimas murmurs, "'Jedi witch'?"

Finally Freyja looks up, "All right... so there is a possibility of the fleet moving against Dantooine, which would aid the Fan's assertion the Jedi wished to invade. So... what can we do to aid the Ghang Sith lord?"

She grins a bit embarrassedly at Jedi Nimas, "Ah... there's some holovid of me and Sith lord Ghang dancing, and, er... well, apparently they also have the cheap and tawdry 'vids which scream about silly things like the alien baby of the deceased Pearl of Coruscant is seen in a miraculous religious vision by blah blah blah..." she waves one golden hand with embarrassed dismissiveness, "You know, patent nonsense... and apparently I was a terrible Jedi witch, supposed to have enchanted the Sith lord Ghang out of his senses. That sort of absurdity." She looks sheepish.

This gets a wide grin out of Murn, and Thov glares at her until she stays quiet. Colburth mutters, "Oh, great, they've got tabloids."

Freyja blushes, then hastily says, "Um... hai. Well... back to important things! So, um... hai. Any thoughts, anyone?"

The Watcher says, "Other than general preparations, we need more information. I think farseeing Master Sarn might be the best idea before we try and plan any more. Unless you have specific suggestions, such as guards for the Council meeting here or something."

Freyja nods, "Hai, the farseeing is important." She hesitates, then adds a bit diffidently, "Um... there is one other thing I'd like to ask you all about, however? It, ah... rather startled me, and I'd like all your wisdom in helping work this through. It concerns Kala- er, Kuras Akaro. May I play a short vid for you?"

Master Roakkana adds, "Kuras Akaro is how the former Senator Kalatis is now known, now that the Haus has stripped him of his family name, if you had not yet heard." This seems to enlighten the five manus members.

Dorn asks Freyja, "While we are very much enjoying the hospitality of your Haus, we would be perfectly happy to move out to the Jedi monastery here to make sure you have more room for the arriving ship. If you would like this, you have but to say the word, and we will be happy to oblige."

Freyja grins at Dorn, "Leave? You do realize Mother and Syf will be absolutely crushed if you do so -- there are entertainments planned specifically for you all during the week of the gymkhana, after all! Plus..." she waves a slender golden hand around, "do you know how hard it is to fill this place up? Please, stay! There's more room than we know what to do with!"

Dorn says, "Then it would be graceless of us to consider such a thing, and we are happy to be at your disposal."

Freyja smiles at Dorn, then, with the encouragement of the others, she plays the recording she made which includes Kalatis (now Akaro) mentioning how he'd felt what he was doing was so right, and fingering some of the rogue Hausa. Once it's done she says slowly, "I was watching carefully, and he spoke truth. It made me wonder... could his mind have been affected by either an Oather or a Calefactor? And if his was... perhaps it was done to the Dosen and Count Miz?" She adds a bit puzzledly, "...it might explain this wyrdling sudden fear of the Jedi...?"

The recording gathers interest indeed. The question afterwards gathers more. Zero watches quietly, but keeps his thoughts on Kalatis' veracity or lack thereof to himself. He corrects himself-- the former Kalatis. That is, provided he is earnest even in that. Roakkana says, "Let me ask the Jedi there who has been counseling him if she has felt any trace of such."

Freyja nods thoughtfully to the Wookiee, then carefully murmurs, Also... might Alleine shed any light on this quandary? Verbally she adds, "All right. If there is indeed such a sense, it is my feeling we should reconsider how the Council is being handled. However, first we have to find that out... so I think the next step is farseeing Master Sarn, hai/neh?"

The Wookiee replies to those who can hear him, I would rather not press him on this at this time, not until he is more confident of our willingness to let him say "no" to boundaries he does not wish to cross. His counselor will be a good start.

Colburth says, "Or wait for Master Sarn to arrive. Without that, we don't know anything, and could only guess." Dorn and the others nod.

Freyja says, "And of course we should not lose sight of our need to locate the Calefactor training facility, calm down the Balmorran Council..." she pauses, considering, then says, "Oh! I have two other things I wanted to mention!" She smiles at Vakkal, "Would you show Master Roakkana your sword, please, Vakiza?" She adds cheerfully to the old Wookiee, "Vakkal tells me Sith alchemists are absolutely certain this is impossible!" She grins wryly, "Unfortunately, I don't really know how I did it."

Vakkal moves to the Wookiee and offers the hilt of his sword. Sure that Freyja and Vakkal would do him no harm, he takes it and holds it out at full length, looking at it. It looks small in the Wookiee's hand. He says, "And what would that... oh, my. This is a Sith-made sword?"

Freyja nods cheerfully, adding, Alleine's, originally. He gladly gave it to us later. "Odd, isn't it?" A bit doubtfully she adds, "I think... it's a Bright sword now...?"

Zero says, "Bright or otherwise, it is definitely unique in the galaxy at the least."

Freyja beams at Zero, "It does seem quite unusual!"

There is some confusion on the room as the others finally look to the weapon for Force-presence. They seem confused, and Dorn says, "But... this is not like anything we've seen before..." Thov nudges him, and adds, "Look at Vakkal." Dorn goes quiet. They look expectantly at Freyja.

Freyja blinks, then says a bit puzzledly, "Er... hai? Was there something you needed?"

The Wookiee says, "Very interesting indeed. I gather this was a Dark blade you have enlightened. It kept its fury and power, but became Light. Interesting." He returns it to Vakkal, adding, "Appropriate you carry it, I think."

Avarras asks, "How is this? It looks Dark but is Light?"

Zero says, "I believe I may be able to help explain that, Jedi Avarras."

Avarras looks to Zero and says, "Please, Padawan Zero, if you could."

Zero says, "Simply this: the fallacy which both of our philosophies, Jedi and Sith, has been allowed to propel us into this sad mess of internal strife and external conflict, is that Light and Dark are abstract forces attributed a mystic, nearly destined will to accomplish their agendas by. This is not so. It is simplistic foolishness to say, 'This man is evil. Therefore I may kill him, and it is in fact good that I do so.' It is simplistic foolishness to say 'this blade was forged by an evil man, thus it is an evil blade.' As it is that men must decide for themselves the Way of their lives, to be good or to be evil, internal or external, Light or Dark within the context of their hearts, so it is that tools and actions cannot be judged out of their own context, but in the light of their intentions."

Freyja says, "Oh!" Suddenly understanding why the two Jedi were regarding her, she adds, "Your pardon -- we're used to Vakkal, so we forget he's pretty amazing." She beams cheerfully at the suddenly pink lining of the Khar Velosi's embarrassedly back-tilted ears, then adds, "I told the truth, though -- I'm not sure what precisely happened. I took the sword from an Oather, and it felt... umm... well, cold, lonely, desperately isolated. It was a sort of empathy, not words, so I tried to send back a feeling of kindness and generosity."

Freyja tilts her head amusedly, "A moment later I was exhausted, and it was... uh... sort of satisfied feeling and cocooned? And then, a few days later, this, uhm... hatched. Hai... sort of. So..." she sounds a bit doubtful, but continues, "maybe according to Zero, at that moment I was thinking something about Vakkal needing a sword...?"

Avarras says, "So this was Dark, and you fed it Light, and it changed? Perhaps it merely was tired of being Dark."

Freyja considers Zero's words a moment, then shakes her head puzzledly, "Wait... if that's the case, then why do Sith swords feel so utterly disgusting, Zeriza? Do you ascribe intention to the weapons?" She adds even more slowly and confusedly, "Wait... wouldn't that imply killing someone for what I believe is a good reason is sufficient? Even if the consequences are terrible?"

Zero says, "Other than our own weapons, I cannot say that I have ever felt a true intention within a weapon outside of the semiconscious attachment that some may feel when employing a weapon of their choosing. What I am saying is that simply to call a blade Dark because it looks Dark, is superficial. A blade is Dark if it is used for Dark purposes, regardless of for whom it was forged."

Freyja says, "What about how it feels within the Force? Dark blades have felt twisted and wrong to you too, I know -- I've seen you react to them." She reflects a bit, starting to get the 'feel' of Zero's meaning through their link, then says slowly, "So... what you're saying is it's not how something looks... but how it feels, how it's meant or used, that is important? Like... like I'm currently wearing black, but that doesn't make me a Sith? Like that?"

Colburth says, "So a Dark sword isn't inherently evil... it just feels bad to a Jedi because we're sensitive to Dark?"

Zero says, "I am addressing Avarras' question as to how it can 'look' Dark but 'feel' Light... perhaps you're reading a bit much into my meaning. Looks do not define Dark and Light, just as species or age or shape cannot determine it. If you cannot call a man evil because he looks evil, then it makes little sense to ascribe the same premises to a far simpler object than a man."

Freyja says, "Ooooh! I understand now." She nods and smiles, "Your pardon... I assumed incorrectly. I get it now."

Colburth too says, "Ah, I see."

Zero says, "What is important to judge a man is the content of his heart. What is important to judge a tool is how one chooses to employ that tool. A sword that is Dark will only become such in the hands of a Dark master. The sword itself has no desire to slay; it simply slays because that is what it is used for. In the hands of we Force-aware, such use will taint the tool as it taints the man -- so much the greater danger for us. But by that same token it stands to reason that as the man may be reclaimed from his imbalance, so could the tool. Indeed, a thing with no intentions of its own may be easier to do so."

Zero says, "But... this is of course simple speculation. I wasn't aware, I must admit, that a blade might... well, hatch."

Freyja nods slowly, "That would make sense." She grins, "Hai, me either! I was quite startled, especially since the Smiths insist this is impossible." She thinks a bit, then grins at Master Roakkana, "So! Shall we try farseeing Master Sarn, then? I think that's the next big step to take for information. That, and asking the Wookiee counselor for kuras Akaro if she feels any taint of his mind having been influenced, hai?"

Master Roakkana concurs, "I think that is the best idea, yes. Shall we meet again once we have had a chance to try this, or would you suggest we do it immediately?"

Freyja hands Master Roakkana her comm, "You can contact her from here. Just ask security to patch you through." The Wookiee plugs the comm into his voder and makes the connection.

The conversation between the Wookiees is short, and entirely in Kashyyyki once they're connected. Those in the room who speak it have no problem following Roakkana's side, and he clarifies when he is done, "I just spoke to Master Shorryyr of Kashyyyk. She has been on Balmorra some time, and is an excellent counselor. She said she has not felt anything along those lines, but will be looking more closely over the next few days."

Freyja nods in quiet relief, although she does make a mental note to talk to Alleine at some point, to see if he's comfortable chatting about something like this. Then she grins at the tiny Kushiban and huge Wookiee, "So... farseeing attempt now?"

Roakkana says with a grin, "I have no pressing engagements." and puts down his tea. Vakkal slips out for a moment to tell Security that the Jedi must not be disturbed for the next hour, and comes in quietly again.

Freyja beams, looking pleased, then cheerfully tells the others they're welcome to sit and relax, enjoy the tea and nibblies, and find out what happened too. Then she shifts to settle comfortably next to the big Wookiee, to gain any benefit from touch while attempting this.

The Wookiee settles as well, relaxing and finding Freyja in the force. She sees him as a huge pillar of Light, and he has to wonder if she is aware how much her Force-presence has changed since she began, for she is now a notable presence of her own. Freyja is interested at Roakkana's gentle assessment, but in truth knew only her beloveds find her a warm, fiery, and comfortable entity to mingle with. That's enough for her.

The other Jedi in the room settle in to watch or meditate, with Vakkal trying to unobtrusively stand guard. It isn't so much that he needs to guard against these people, just the principle... he watches out for Freyja, and that's just what he does.

The two minds settle into a comfortable place with each other and go farseeing out together through the Force, swooping through the field that contains everyone and everything until they find what they want. There is a slightly disturbing jerk as they seek in Hyperspace, but they steady each other and go on. The essence of Master Sarn is found and receptive, a beacon of Light Force of his own. As the reach him and try to make contact, they realize he's on a different schedule than they are, and not entirely awake. A moment later they sense him slip into a trance of his own, the better to communicate with them. The first sensation directed to the visiting Force-users is one of welcome and relief.

Freyja smiles, returning the welcome and gently apologizing for waking him. Sarn hesitates, then replies, You haven't bothered anyone but me. I warned the others I might... become distracted. I am glad to hear from you. I gather you got my message all right?

Freyja nods, whispering through the Force, Hai, we did. Have you time to talk? Are you and everyone there all right? What happened? She grins, adding, We have many questions.

Sarn replies, Now is a good time. I've just woken and I have plenty of energy to try and help with the link. Everyone aboard is healthy; any wounded were left aboard the Malice in its far better medical facility. I'm sure you have many questions... I hope I have answers. What happened... Fan decided Ghang was weak, and attacked him to seize his resources, or so Lord Ghang explained to me.

Freyja nods, pleased their guesses were correct, Excellent. Go on? -or should we ask you questions?

Sarn replies, I can say that the attack came as a surprise to me, but Ghang either saw it coming or reacted very quickly. He chose to flee to safety and leave Fan to deal with the fallout of the attack. He swears there will be repercussions to Fan for his actions. Ask questions... I don't know what you need to know.

Freyja sends, All right. First, duty stuff: What happened to the Vice Chancellor and his folks?

Sarn sends, Ghang sent them with us. The Vice Chancellor offered to go with Lord Ghang to continue the talks and show the Republic is still interested in them, but Ghang would have none of it. Myself, I'm glad of that. Most of them weren't in the room for the attack, and were just very confused. The V. C. himself did well.

Freyja nods slowly, Excellent -- and a relief to hear. She mentally adjusts upward the probable size of the ship incoming, and makes a note to warn the Haus it may be a distinctly Sith ship. All right... now for possible messages from the Ghang: how many refugees are with you? Are they all Khar Velosi? What skills do they have, and are any of them engineers? Also, what kind of ship were you given -- does it have one of those invisibility fields on it?

Master Sarn replies, There are the VC and his staff, myself, and thirty six refugees. Six of them are engineers. Thirty-three of the refugees are Khar Velosi, and there are three Arkanians. They are engineers. The others were all support staff. All the military personnel went on troop carriers straight to Khar Velosi at full warp, with Lord Ghang. He adds, There are also two Khar Velosi pilots in addition to the others. I don't know where they plan on going. This is a transport ship with no weapons at all. No invisibility field.

Freyja pauses, making mental notes, then says cautiously, Do I understand there are three engineer Arkanians, and 33 support Khar Velosi? How very odd. Why would he send us Arkanians? Define 'support,' please? And where did you last see the Malice heading?

Sarn clarifies, There are three engineer Arkanians, three engineer Khar Velosi, and thirty other Khar Velosi. There are two more Khar Velosi pilots. The support staff were not fighters, but administrators and other non-technical people who were aboard, who wanted to flee the risk and who could be spared.

Freyja frowns thoughtfully. Six engineers in a Sith troop ship... that's respectable. Not as definitive as she'd hoped, though. The location of the Malice, though... that will likely clearly show Ghang's probable meaning.

Master Sarn continues, The Malice... all of its fighting staff and support ships have gone to secure Khar Velos. Ghang sent the Malice itself to Balmorra. He was confident it would be welcomed, and he made sure I would do my best to see it is... Saleyn is still aboard the Malice. He notes, With most of the fighting crew off to Khar Velosi, they have plenty of supplies for quite a long trip.

Freyja nods slowly, All right. I think we can talk my parents into Hosting, as long as the Malice remembers what Guesting is. She mentally crosses her fingers the refugees all understand what it means to join a new clan -- and actually desire this! She's worried about the Arkanians. Do they truly understand what they're getting into?

Then she sighs a little worriedly, and continues asking questions, since it would be foolish to waste this link on mental recriminations, Let's see, what else... did you see Methel-ssa die, or did someone just tell you that? How was Ghang injured -- physically or in the Force? Did he ever get the actual prophecy the Sith farseers gave regarding how to stop the war?

Sarn sends, I am terribly relieved to hear this, Padawan Freyja. I believe many of those aboard this ship do know what they're getting into. Saleyn's been asking them what they want, and these are ones who have realized there might be more to life than hunting the plains.

Freyja smiles, Well, that's good to hear. I admit, it's mostly the Arkanians who worry me.

Sarn adds, I saw Methel-ssa struck and fall, but she may have been alive still. She had apparently made some arrangement with Ghang ahead of time and Fan could tell. This is apparently what triggered Fan's anger. Ghang obviously knew this, and reacted. He was injured mostly physically by a Sith sword strike; he said it was manageable for a time. He did not mention any prophecy.

Freyja murmurs softly, Oh, dear... I do hope that arrangement wasn't about us...

Sarn notes, I think the Arkanians don't want to stay, but are along to make sure there's enough engineering resources ahead of time to get construction started as early as possible. They've sworn to Ghang they will do what is needed to get the Malice repaired, and that involved doing what I told them. Apparently... I have Sith reporting to me at the moment. Isn't that odd? He adds, I have no idea what arrangements may have been made between Methel-ssa and Lord Ghang. She was always cool to us.

Freyja smiles and sighs quietly, then simply nods, All right. Is he planning on coming to fetch the Malice himself once he's dealt with whatever on Khar Velos? She smiles at Sarn's bemusement, Odd? Not really, honored Master Sarn. You're trustworthy. The Ghang is good at telling that, I think.

Master Sarn replies, I do not know how Lord Ghang expects to collect the Malice. It would not surprise me if he does not yet know that himself. It would not surprise me if he would like to come see. He nearly fawned over the Khar Velosi who were leaving, and packed the ship with supplies. I think he's worried about whether they're going to a good home.

Freyja grins, Hai, he takes his responsibility to them quite seriously. It's good to know they have someplace they can go if they decide they don't like our clan. She notes with interest, So you were there more than a day or two, eh? Did the missing manus get mentioned at all? And perhaps most important -- what does this current situation mean for the peace talks, please? Do you know?

Sarn sends, We were there a few days. The missing manus was not mentioned in my presence. As to the talks... Lord Ghang said he would do everything in his power to uphold his word on that, but that his word might not be worth much at the moment, and he would let us know as soon as he could. He would not be pressed for details.

Freyja makes a mental note to check the Ghang for blighted injury when he comes here. She grins at herself, realizing she believes it will be a 'when,' not an 'if' -- he'll want to see how his Khar Velosi are doing! Then she nods slowly, So it would appear he's defending Khar Velos -- but also defending his reputation with the Dark Lord, to prove he's capable and should be allowed to continue the peace talks. She sighs in quiet amusement to herself -- looks like Fhazil was quite right, and they should help the Ghang as they can. She just wishes she knew better how they might help him!

Unaware of Fhazil's counsel or Freyja's thoughts, Sarn replies, That's what it looks like to me.

Freyja says slowly, A final question, then... do you recall what was said just before the Fan attacked?

Sarn pauses a moment, thinking, then replies, We were in Methel-ssa's throne room. Did you see it? Tall, with hangings on the walls and an ante-office? Fan came in and said to Methel-ssa, "Traitorous bitch!" and hit her. She went down. Ghang reacted by grabbing all the wall hangings and wrapping Fan and his Soulguards up in them. That wouldn't have held them long, but the curtain rods and a flagpole did. We still didn't get away clean -- Ghang and a couple of others were hurt -- but nothing bacta wouldn't fix. It was remarkably bloodless, according to Ghang's Soulguard.

Freyja murmurs startledly, Good goddess, that stopped several Soulguards and Fan?! I'd been given to understand he had a handful of them by now, specifically to hunt the manuses on Dantooine. And... the Ghang's Soulguard survived?! She pauses, reflecting in astonishment, How... very odd... She considers for several moments... then finally says slowly, Master Sarn... could this have been a 'set piece' for you?

Master Sarn replies, What do you mean? You think this was staged? I would have to judge that it wasn't, from Ghang's reactions. And Fan was really trying to kill him. And me. I don't think Fan was expecting me there, or wasn't expecting me to have a lightsaber. Most of his staff did not.

Freyja muses, Hm. Still, extremely odd. She considers a bit, then says doubtfully, Perhaps the Fan is prone to reacting quite emotionally, without thinking first? Zero agrees that it would be in keeping with what they know of 'standard' Sith. Freyja whispers just to her local friends, Could the Fan have perhaps not realized there were Jedi with the Ghang?

Fhazil replies, He might not have known they'd be there. Or underestimated them.

Sarn sends, Perhaps. Why do you say this? I think Ghang did something Fan could not predict, that is all, and then Fan did not know how to react.

Freyja perks up alertly, What did he do that was unexpected? Do you refer to the curtain wrapping, or something previous to that, such as working peacefully with Jedi? She adds puzzledly to her friends, But surely the Fan knew there'd be Jedi there -- how else could he know the manuses were gone, to accuse the Methel-ssa of treason? She blinks, then says slowly, Oh, my... we need to find out if she lives still, my friends. She went out on the limb for us, after all, so we could take the rogue manus home.

Sarn sends mental laughter, then, He ran away, Freyja! Fan was not expecting that. It isn't honorable. Or so the Khar Velosi with me say. They were astonished too. It is sometimes sensible, though.

Freyja blinks again, saying a little blankly, Oh. She sounds rather confused still. Then she whispers to the triat and Vakkal, Do any of you have any idea why he'd run? To Sarn she says, Did the Fan have battleships there or something?

Sarn senses this, and sends, Fan was sure he'd enrage Ghang, much as he was himself enraged. Ghang decided to run, so he didn't have to fight Fan and his bodyguards. Ghang wanted to live, you see.

Freyja murmurs, Aaaah... this is valuable information about the Fan, Master Sarn! So it was a set-up... of the Ghang, by the Fan -- it just didn't work the way he expected. I understand now. She adds hopefully, And maybe... maybe in Fan's confusion and disgust at Ghang... Methel-saa lives still?

Sarn replies, Ah. Well, yes, I suspect Fan would not have attacked unless he were sure he would win. Ghang outsmarted him. As to Methel-ssa... I don't know. We did not leave right away... not all of us would fit on the shuttle we could get. I left early with Ghang, and it took several more trips to get everyone. It may be Ghang sent more people down to extract her. I do not know. I did not ask; I was suddenly very busy with other things.

Freyja blinks again, Fan didn't press the attack?! Fascinating... I wonder why?

Zero hms. To gloat, perhaps?

Freyja nods to Zero, Or he felt it beneath him to attack what he considered a coward? I wonder how long before he tries contacting the Dark Lord to 'report' this.

Sarn replies, Oh, he did, but he was unable to get to us. We were in a reasonably defendable place -- we took one of the gun emplacements around their compound. By the time Fan could get extra firepower in, Malice was overhead with significant backup and Ghang had an upper hand.

Freyja hms... So the Fan was not there with a comparable battleship. Also interesting. She grins, Lots of interesting data! All right... is there anything else you need to tell or ask us? I'm out of questions currently. Master Roakkana, do you have any?

Roakkana sends in his confident way, Still sure of your path, or has this time away from your new friend made you question? Freyja raises an interested eyebrow -- that's a darned good question too!

Master Sarn replies, I've learned a lot about myself. I am more and more sure of my path. While some time apart has been interesting, it has only made me more sure of my choices. I have learned that Khar Velosi, in general, are good people.

Freyja smiles, Hai, that they are. I have high hopes my Haus will welcome them, and they will find a comfortable new clan in us.

Master Sarn sends, I can only encourage you to do so, but I am biased.

Freyja grins, It's all right. It was they themselves who convinced me. First Vakkal, then Ghang's obvious caring for them... and then they themselves. It will be nice to see them again, and see how they're doing.

Master Roakkana seems satisfied with Sarn's reply, and sends to him, Wisdom and understanding in all things. You have found some, and hopefully some happiness along with it. He adds, I think this is all we need to know. I believe you can be sure you will arrive to a welcome environment, and we will do what we can to make sure our friends aboard the Malice are welcomed as well.

Freyja will, unless the two Masters have more to say to each other, thank Master Sarn, wish the Force be with him, and let the tiring farseeing slowly slip free. Then she draws a slow, deep breath, rubbing one slender wrist along her forehead and leaning back against the wall, "Whew! That takes effort, even with two Jedi Masters helping!" She grins cheerfully at her friends, still full of the warm emotive pleasure of being deeply in love -- and seeing someone else also in love.

Dorn asks, "You all right? Need a minute?"

Freyja smiles with utter relaxation, through half-lidded eyes, at the Human. She quietly accepts a hot, fresh cup of tea from Vakkal, "I'm all right. Just let me catch my breath..." She sips slowly, inhaling the gentle scent as much as the heat, then sighs and rolls her shoulders a bit, "Well, now... that was interesting. Seems our guesses are pretty good -- although there was one thing I'd hoped for which apparently is not the case. Still... let's share our information, hai, Master Roakkana?"

The others in the room come back from their meditation. Thov wanders about and makes sure everyone has hot tea, and Nimas sorts out the nibblies and makes sure that Freyja and her Master have some. Freyja grins, accepting some little bite-sized sandwiches... and almost wolfing them down!

Roakkana smiles with pleasure at the smaller Ishi Tib and Bothan -- he is happy to have more tea. "A long talk, yes. Let us share." He proceeds to tell, with Freyja's help, what happened. Considering his prodigious memory, Freyja mostly watches reactions with thoughtful interest, and peacefully sips her tea. Zero folds his hands quietly under his chin, thinking.

Colburth and the manus members don't really know what to make of it. Manishsha says, "I hope Sarn is really okay. I could be really unhappy at this Ghang person for using him so."

Freyja smiles quietly at the Kushiban, "My personal recommendation would be to save our unhappiness for the Fan. From what I can tell, the Ghang is doing the best he can in a highly hierarchialized, ritual-bound culture to keep the possibility of peace open." She pauses, then grins and says in mock-horror, "Gracious, sounds like Balmorran aristoi!"

Fhazil comments, "Perhaps that's why he liked you so much." Vakkal nods.

Freyja blinks, then brightens, "He likes me? How nice!" She curiously adds, "How'd you know?"

Vakkal says, "He sent Fhazil with you?" Fhazil says, "He trusts you with Khar Velosi?" Vakkal says, "He came by your cabin in the middle of the night, to talk?" Fhazil says, "He likes you. He's trusting you by sending Malice here. He's depending on you... which he wouldn't do for most Sith."

Freyja listens interestedly... then grins, "Aww, that's sweet! Still, I suspect the things that happened occurred as much because the three of you were there too." Happily she adds, "We make a great team, after all!" She chews on a small nibble-cake, still smiling.

Fhazil shrugs, and Vakkal says, "Remember what you said about Sith not having friends? What if he had listened? What if you're the only friend he's ever had?"

Freyja thinks a bit, then says slowly, "If I'm the only friend? Gracious... the poor man. I guess I'll just do my best to try to be a good friend, then, so he can realize how good they are for you."

Freyja finishes her nibble, has a sip of tea, then adds gravely, "All pleasantries aside, though, there is one unpleasant detail we must still address. If the Malice is to receive assistance, we must gain the cooperation of my parents and Lei- er, Lord Fafnir... and that means we must give them the entire truth -- including the truth about the friendly Sith within the Haus even now."

Vakkal smiles toothily and says, "Well, I can't argue with that."

Freyja adds softly and thoughtfully, "Maybe that's part of why there are so many Jedi here... to help and reassure my family too? That would be nice of the Force, if so."

Zero says, "Or simply because the will of the Force guides Jedi to Balmorra because this is where we are needed. Jedi do seem to gravitate toward the locations of important events."

Fhazil says, "Do you think that will be a problem? I have a personal interest in asking."

Freyja smiles at Fhazil, "Neh, sweetheart. But we must tell them so they cannot be surprised by the information by someone seeking to harm the household. It's like my engagement -- they should not learn this from the tabloids, you know?" Then she grins at Zero, "Either works for me, as long as the right things get done, and done well, I hope!" To Master Roakkana she whispers, We really should tell of Alleine also, Master. I don't want to hurt and surprise him either, though... should we call him here and let him know first, so he's with friends when my family finds out?

Fhazil says, "I don't have a problem telling them about me. I don't want them to be surprised by it, either." Roakkana says, "I hope Alleine is ready for this."

Freyja nods, relieved, "All right. In that case, I recommend it done soon to be done well." She lifts her left wrist to her lips, murmuring into the comm-bracelet a request for a droid to be sent to ask Alleine if he could join them in the Room of Golden Tears. She also asks for a refill on the tea. Then she looks up and smiles, "There's one other thing I'd like to try in a week or so, too. If you can aid me, Fhaziza and Zeriza, I'd like to try farseeing Methel-ssa, to see if she still lives."

Zero says, "Certainly, I will help if I can." Fhazil agrees also.

Freyja beams in relief, "Thank you, lovers."

A droid arrives with more hot water and tea leaves. Alleine is a few minutes in coming, and Syf comes in with him. The Diamond of Balmorra smiles brightly, "Is everything all right? You've been talking a long time. Tea's past and it's getting closer to dinner."

Freyja grins, "Surely only nuncheon, Syf?" She politely introduces her lovely sister to Watcher Manishsha, then adds, "Hai, everything is fine -- excellent, in fact. We've been doing research together." She waits for the slightly... 'flattened' look people with sensitive hearing tend to get around her sister. She grins internally -- well, perhaps overwhelmed is a better way to put it...

Syf smiles, "Closer to that, sure, but dinner's not far behind." She looks around the room full of Jedi, and graciously greets the Watcher, then adds, "Alleine has been helping me with party arrangements. He's good at it."

Freyja looks interested, "Really? That's nice to hear." She smiles at Alleine, "Would you permit us to drag you away from my sister and party arrangements for just a bit, please? We should not be long, I believe."

Alleine says, "That's fine with me." Syf looks momentarily concerned, and says, "Everything is all right, isn't it?"

Freyja smiles again at Syf, "Hai, Syffie, why would it not?" She gives her sister a slightly puzzled look, "Has something happened in the Council we've not yet heard of, or something?"

Syf says, "You all look so serious, is all." For a moment she looks more intelligent and aware than usual, but she shrugs and puts her bright, bubbly smile back on, "Never mind!" She adds to Alleine, "Come on back whenever you can." Then she waves prettily and perks out of the room.

Manishsha rubs his ears. Freyja grins quietly and waves as her sister leaves. Once the doors close, she first makes sure Alleine has some nibblies and tea also, and has been introduced to everyone present. He seems a bit nervous being in this room full of Jedi, but Freyja is there, and Roakkana smiles and seems calm, so he settles a little and sips some tea. Once he's had a moment to relax, she checks with him, "So, have you had a chance to tell my sister to calm down a bit with the questions? Did it work for you?"

Alleine says, "Yes. I did. She laughed and said that was no problem, then dived into planning for a gymkhana. Which she had to explain to me what was... which was an adventure all on its own." He adds, "She took me out to meet the slaypneers... they're big."

Freyja says, "Excellent." She grins, adding cheerfully, "Oh, they're not so big as the autumlas or the geri-cats! Of course, you don't really want to meet them..." She chuckles quietly, then has a sip of tea. A moment later she continues, "In that case, we've been discussing some of the things which have occurred on Dantooine, and we thought you needed to be filled in on them too."

Freyja gives a quick thumbnail run-down of the violent occurrences there, then adds quietly, "We mention this because we need to give my family some of this information, including who all the friendly Sith are in the house currently. It will take a strong Haus to politically defend aiding the Sith warship Malice, in order to continue to promote peace. Not giving my Haus the whole truth could potentially undermine them, and we don't want to do that. However, we also didn't want you to be startled by this revelation... so we wanted to let you know it was happening and, if you'd like, to be present when my parents, Magnussen, and Lord Fafnir are informed." She adds discreetly, "It might be more reassuring for them to see you with Master Roakkana, hai?

Alleine sets his tea down and sits very still, listening. Once she's done speaking he says quietly, "I understand. I am not afraid of you or your family. I am more worried by Lord Ghang coming here."

Freyja tilts her head curiously, "Whyso, please? Also, I will note it will be at least half a year before he can do so? The Malice won't arrive for a minimum of three months, too."

Alleine says, "I worry he will have with him those who might know me, who would be willing to follow through their promise of destruction for desertion."

Freyja whispers without turning her head, Vakkal, would it be all right to mention you used to be an Oather apprentice? She simply looks thoughtful for a moment, considering Alleine's words.

Vakkal replies, I'll do it, and steps to where Alleine can see him. He says, "I understand your fear; I was in the same position. It's one of the reasons I'm here now... the Haus protects me as I protect it. You have nothing to fear here, though. Their reach is not as far as they say."

Freyja says slowly to Alleine, "You are familiar with the Guest oath you have exchanged with my Haus, hai? That oath is extended to all who come here. Those from the Malice will have to make the same promises... and the Hosting oath you received in return is our promise you are safe on our demesne, Alleine." She smiles, adding, "I learned how to heal poison specifically so I could protect Vakkal, were there any Oathers left on the Malice. I've not yet needed to use that knowledge, but if necessary I shall not hesitate to do so."

Alleine nods, "I hear your words, Lady Freyja, and I do not think you would lie to me. A lot of me is unsure. Do not worry about it. I made my choice, and I am prepared to do as I need to do. I will come when you tell your family, if you like."

Freyja smiles, "Neh, neh lies. It's been my experience they don't work. Well, I thank you for your kindness, honored Alleine -- I did not want you worried or frightened due to our not thinking ahead for you." She looks around the room, then grins dryly, "Shall I see if we can summon together all the necessary parts of this revelation, then?"

Alleine says, "Now is as good a time as any." He adds quietly, "I wonder if Syf will be afraid of me once she knows." He looks a little glum.

Freyja chuckles, then says gently, "Honored Alleine, she is surely at least as clever as I." She leaves it at that, although she's still smiling as she talks on her comm-bracelet for a few moments. Roakkana moves up to Alleine, to smile and put a big hand gently on his shoulder. Freyja looks up a moment later, "All right, they said they'd be here in a moment. Excellent!" She looks around thoughtfully, then hastily moves some things around to tidy up a bit.

It takes a few minutes, but Erde arrives. She says, "Your father and Fafnir are at Council, but we've got them a private room. Will a vid link do?"

Freyja makes a nice comfortable mound of pillows for her mother -- which just happens to place the Jedi between her mother and the friendly Sith -- and smiles, gesturing her mother to sit. She doesn't expect the Sith to be any problem, but having space between Magnussen (next to her Mother) and the 'enemy' is just a good precaution, she thinks. At her mother's words she says, "Um. I guess that's all right, Mother. We do have somewhat extensive, startling news, though. Do they have time, and are we absolutely sure the link is secure?"

Freyja offers her mother a nice, hot cuppa while she speaks, and whispers to Zero, You always make the Force, both Light and Dark sound so reasonable. Magnussen's most likely to react poorly... if I can't calm him down, sweetheart, can you try too, please?

Erde picks up her comm and says, "Magnussen's best. It's actually to our transport, not to the Council." A staff member brings in a vid/projector droid, and one end of the room becomes video. Leif and Forsetti are there large as life, sitting in seats in the back of the transport. Leif looks concerned, and Forsetti annoyed. Then Freyja's father sees the large group and calms a little, saying, "You needed to speak to us privately?" Magnussen is in the room as well.

Zero nods softly. I will do my very best, love...

Freyja says, "Ah, to the transport is better, hai." She sighs quietly, then smiles her relieved thanks at Zero. Then she turns and bows formally to her hus-bond and father, "Greetings, honored family, honored head huskarl. We've been doing research here today, and have some news for you regarding the issues I mentioned yesterday. Bear with me, please, and I'll try to relate this as clearly and concisely as I may..."

The adults listen intently. Freyja starts with the Dantooine situation, and what's headed their way -- that's most critical they know immediately, since the Sith troop ship actually contains about 35 potential new Haus members. She pauses there for questions.

Fafnir says, "Thirty five people who may want to join the Haus... that should be good." Magnussen adds, "If they're half as goot at what they do as Vakkal, they'll be welcome."

Freyja smiles in relief, "That's excellent to hear. Thank you all so much!" She takes a deep, relieved breath, then adds happily, "They're a clan-organized people too, so I think they'll fit in well culturally as well. I hope so, at least... oh, but they're not familiar with large dangerous animals, so we should be cautious about that. Let's see, what's next..." She considers a moment, then says, "Ah, the Malice."

Magnussen nods, his eyes sharp, "Aye, lady, I was just aboot to ask where that'n'd gone, if all th'military'd left in troop transports...?"

Freyja grins at him and nods, "Hai, that's the next important issue." She relates what Ghang has done with the Malice, explaining why and the implications, then adds, "Does that make sense to everyone? I ask because we're going to have to Host them to do this. And they do know they'll have to Guest Oath in return. This is why, I believe, so many engineers have been sent."

Leif says, "How long do we have before they arrive? That's how long we have to settle this distrust in the Council." Forsetti also looks concerned, "You say there will be no trouble with the Host and Guest oaths?" Erde, on the other hand, says, "It might be nice to get some of our people aboard that ship... we don't have anything quite like it. I hope they'll let us help them."

Freyja grins, then answers concisely, "Three months, Fafnir, and hai, I know. I have some ideas on that I'd like to discuss with you all later. Neh, Father, there should be neh problem. Part of the reason the engineers are being sent first, I believe, is to smooth out such issues before the actual Malice arrives. Hai, Mother, I believe we can visit and help, and you would be an honored guest aboard the ship. You're my Mother and their Hostess and protector, after all."

Erde smiles quietly, "I was thinking more of our engineers. I hope we'll be able to establish a good working relationship with those who are here."

Freyja nods gravely, "Hai, I as well, honored Mother. It may help to note three of the incoming Khar Velosi are engineers as well? The other three are Arkanians, and I believe they do not wish to leave the Malice, but have been sent ahead to have time to learn to work with our engineers."

Magnussen says, "If they're like Vakkal, that's a good sign." Vakkal has apparently impressed Magnussen.

Freyja beams a bit proudly at Vakkal, then adds, "Any other questions before I continue?"

Forsetti says, "Ach, there's more?"

Erde says, "Go on, dear. Nothing we can't handle yet."

Zero smiles a bit. "We would not be who we are, if all were simple in our lives."

Freyja grins a bit wryly at her father, "Only one more thing, Father, that I know of, but I feel we must share this with you in the spirit of truthfulness and in order to insure the Haus is not accidentally embarrassed." She takes a deep breath, then continues, "You mentioned surprise at having Sith here in our domains. It is incumbent upon me to inform you, honored family, we do indeed have friendly Sith present here and now. I feel it is important you know this, although I know it will not change how we treat them."

She waves a graceful golden hand, "You already know Vakkal was a Sith before he joined our service. The other two Sith who are currently present are Fhazil Taas and Alleine. Fhazil is part of the Triat I've mentioned to you before, of course. Alleine, while a Sith, is fleeing the Empire." She bows formally, "And it content ye present here, my truth is told and complete." She just happens to end up in the line of sight between Alleine and Magnussen with that last bow.

There is a long pause. Fafnir relaxes, "Whew. I thought it was something hard." Forsetti nods, "Hai. Not like we can expect any trouble from Fhazil, and if the other is hiding he won't be wanting to rock the boat." Erde looks curiously at Alleine, "I wonder what Syf will say."

Freyja laughs! -then grins and steps to hug her mother, and then to cheerfully salute her hus-bond and father, "Oh, you! Here I was worried you'd all be upset!" She grins, adding, "I think Syffie's figured it out already, actually. Alleine's a Massassi, and she'd seen some on the holovids."

Magnussen, on the other hand, glares at Alleine. He murmurs -- almost a growl, "Ye truly runnin' awa', boyo, or are ye here t'cause us trooble?"

Zero watches for the moment, waiting to see if Alleine can handle this himself before interjecting. To Magnussen Freyja murmurs with slight reproof, "He is here to study with Master Roakkana, honored head huskarl."

Alleine shakes his head, raises a hand, and says quietly, "I can answer, Lady Freyja." He looks squarely at Magnussen, "I was defeated in combat by Freyja, Zero, Fhazil, and Vakkal. Once they had captured me I could only imagine horrors and death in front of me, and that was if I managed to escape to return home. I expected worse from these terrible Jedi." Freyja covers a small smile, but remains quiet, watching.

Alleine continues before Magnussen can speak, "Instead they treated me honorably and well. Vakkal convinced me to reconsider my drive for death at any cost, and I watched long enough to see there might be other things worth living for. Once here, Master Roakkana and the other Jedi have been kind and understanding. This does not match what we've been taught to expect from Jedi or from our own masters. Given that, I would be an idiot to want to escape, to take this tenuous chance at life I've been granted and throw it away. I will leave if you ask me to... but I will not be betraying you or yours."

Freyja folds her arms gracefully and turns her ice-blue gaze on Magnussen, still smiling slightly. Zero reflects briefly, This illustrates a key weakness in Sith battle strategy, a propagandist paranoia -- it is a simple fact of war that to treat the defeated with kindness is to win without fighting; and that is the first way of winning a true victory.

Freyja nods with quiet fascination at Zero's words, Wouldn't it be something if it were kindness which was the greatest sea change in the Empire, due to the Republic presence?

Magnussen says, "They treat all o'their people soo bad then, laddie?" Alleine says, "Some get worse, milord. Many would never believe they could live, even when shown what I was shown." Magnussen says, "Ye keep yir nose clean, ye're welcome here. Doon't let's be havin' t'find oot what t'do if that's not th'case, aye?"

Freyja covers another smile at Magnussen doing the tough guy act, and adds with quiet relief to Zero, Thank goodness! It looks like he'll be all right with Alleine.

Alleine says, "Yes, milord." Magnussen settles a little, adding, "Strange times indeed."

Zero replies, So it would. Stranger still, what if the Empire did indeed bifurcate -- and one faction allied with us?

Vakkal replies, I don't know how that would shake out. It would change the balance of power greatly.

Zero nods. Like nothing the Republic has yet seen.

Freyja blinks in fascinated thought at that, I... I don't know, Zeriza! That never occurred to me. But I bet an Empire split against itself couldn't stand against the added Republic allies. She grins quietly, That'd be one way to change the culture beneficially, hai? Those with friends... would win.

Zero agrees softly. I could not predict how such a change would affect the galaxy -- but it would go badly for the enemies of such an alliance. The sheer logistical power of the Republic, combined with its Jedi allies, and the technological and military advantages of a Sith force, would be nothing short of a military juggernaut.

Freyja adds wonderingly, What if the Ghang could get the Dark Lord to join in friendship... what use the stifling conformity of the Moot then, eh? She waits until Magnussen and Alleine are finished, then bows courteously again to all, "That is all I had to report, honored family and guests. I thank you for taking the time to listen."

On-screen, Forsetti says, "So you've a Sith paramour, we've an ex-Sith huskarl, and an escaped Sith guest." He shakes his head and says, "Here they told us they were all horrid people."

Freyja giggles, "Well, from what they've told me, they were told the same about us?" She adds cheerfully, "Uh, better make that two Sith or formerly Sith paramours, honored Father -- may I introduce Vakkal as my newest -- and last, I pray! -- paramour?"

Alleine confirms, "Yes, we were. Horrible things." He adds, "I have yet to see any of them. Although the slaypneers are close."

Freyja blinks at Alleine startledly, "Your pardon?"

Alleine says, "The slaypneers. They're very big." He adds, looking awed, "And have so many feet."

Freyja laughs! "Ah, I understand." She grins cheerfully, "Perhaps we can talk Syffie into a picnic, and you can see autumlas as well -- they're even larger!" She murmurs dryly, "We'll do our best to avoid the geri-cats, though. We'll show you those on vids instead, all right?"

Magnussen grins at Freyja's report of her newest paramour and says, "Canna say I wasnae expectin' it. Ye be taking goot care of her, eh, Vakkal?" Forsetti merely says, "My, how... exotic." Erde and Leif say nothing, and both look unreadable, although probably for different reasons. Zero glances meaningfully at Fhazil, and smiles, but says nothing.

Freyja folds her arms and raises an amused eyebrow at her Father, "Now...! You be nice, Father."

Finally, Erde murmurs to Freyja, "You must tell your sister."

Freyja tilts her head at her mother, "About Alleine? Certes, I'll do so." She glances over at Alleine, "Would you care to be present, or neh?"

Erde says, "That, and Vakkal. She'll want to know."

Forsetti holds up both hands, "I couldn't wish more than for my daughter to be happy, and if someone who has already proven himself so worthy of the Haus makes you happy, who would I be to object?"

Freyja smiles graciously, "Thank you, Father, that's nice." Changing the subject, she adds, "Will you be landing soon?" She blinks at her mother, "She will?" then blinks again, "Wait, this is Syffie -- what a silly question." She gets a slightly resigned look.

Alleine says, "I can be there. She'll be looking for me soon, I suspect, unless she's been distracted by something else."

Freyja grins cheerfully at Alleine, "Very well, then!" She glances inquiringly at Vakkal, "You also, sweetheart?"

Forsetti chuckles at the stir his youngest daughter often causes, then adds, "Landing? We've got more meetings today, and should get back to them. We'll be home later, hopefully in time for supper."

Freyja says, "Ah, I understand. Thank you for all the time you spared us, then, and may the Force be with you on your work today."

Magnussen says cheerfully to Vakkal, "Be brave, lad. She's just a wee little girrl. Go tell 'er th'good news."

Freyja giggles in spite of herself at Magnussen's words! Vakkal's ears pinken and he says, "Er... yes, my lord."

Chuckling at that, Forsetti says to Leif, "We'd better get back to it." Leif agrees and they sign off cheerfully.

Freyja murmurs curiously over the link, Has Syffie been planning some event for my paramours or something? She grins and politely offers her hand to her Mother to help her rise, "Well, I'm glad that was not as traumatic as I'd feared. Thank you, Mother."

Fhazil replies, Not that I know of... unless you share paramours or something... I'm still not quite sure how this works. I'm just glad Leif isn't bothered that Vakkal is sleeping with his wife...

Freyja's mental voice is deeply shocked, Share paramours?! Certainly not! I don't even like most of the insipid young people who hang around her! She adds puzzledly, And why would Leif be upset? He's not allergic to fur on my clothes or anything, after all...?

Zero has sat very, very still for several seconds while he processes that idea. Then he sits back. Slowly. And takes a drink. Vakkal, apparently thinking of the boundless energy of Syf, sends, Eek, at the very idea, and a great deal of relief at Freyja's reply. Freyja blinks curiously at Zero, wondering what caused that sudden reaction.

Fhazil sends, Sorry, sweetie... I'm not entirely sure what's expected and what's not. Where I'm from telling your husband you've got a new lover often involves firearms and some risk of danger. I'm thrilled to be with you... and that is more than enough.

Freyja giggles at Vakkal, then adds, What do you mean, Fhaziza, about not being sure how this works? She puzzles a moment, then adds very cautiously (stifling a sudden pinprick of pain), Are you... trying to say you're attracted to... to Leif?

Fhazil is, luckily, not drinking. He coughs a time or two, then sends, No, sweetie... but I wasn't sure if you might be, or if he were you, or if that were expected. Or what, exactly.

Freyja sighs in sudden relief at Fhazil's response, Oh! All right, I understand. She beams, adding, Do you symbolically 'rescue' your sweethearts from their hausa -- is that why firearms are involved? That sounds terribly romantic!

Freyja will also politely see her mother and Magnussen out of the room, then settle with the others. She lets their conversation flow quietly and thoughtfully around her as she also converses with her Family of the Heart.

Fhazil stares at Freyja, and sends, No, love. Usually it's the husband shooting -- or trying to shoot -- the lying cheat who's been with his wife. Our society isn't usually forgiving of anyone outside the marriage being lovers with someone. It's as wrong to us as my confusion and quiet horror that we'd wind up getting to know Syf that well.

Vakkal sends quietly and soberly, I don't think the four of us could keep up with her. I don't want to try.

Freyja blinks bemusedly at Fhazil... then simply smiles and shakes her head, I... don't get it, about why you'd lie and all. We can talk about it later, though, all right? And you needn't worry -- Syf's not part of my Family of the Heart. She grins.

Zero takes a quiet swallow of his drink. Quiet horror. That is a good phrase. It adequately describes my reaction to suddenly thinking of trying to -- well, never mind. Freyja giggles quietly into her tea at that!

Freyja sighs happily, leaning gently against Master Roakkana and beaming up at him, "So... looks like things are sorting themselves out smoothly, thank goodness. Anything else you can think of we should do?"

Alleine asks, "Was there anything else, Lady Freyja? I could go back to trying to help Syf arrange parties." He shudders, then adds, "Or she said she might take me riding."

Freyja laughs! "Ooh, lucky you -- riding! Hai, there's one other thing -- shall we ask Syffie if she has a moment?" She grins at the Watcher and the former manus, "You aren't required to stay if you'd rather not, of course... or if you're full to bursting with tea by now!"

Manishsha says, "Well, I should go back to the monastery and discuss some parts of this with the Jedi there. Perhaps I should be going." Freyja smiles and sees the Jedi out, thanking him for coming and helping so much, and cheerfully reminding him both to let them know if anything interesting is discovered, and that he's invited to the gymkhana next week!

Murn says, "Aye, we'll leave you to your sister." Thov, another with excellent hearing, shudders and adds, "Unless Dorn wants to stay and flirt with her." Dorn says, "I never!" and looks indignant, which gets a chuckle out of the other four, and a blush out of Dorn.

Freyja giggles at Dorn, and sees them out as well. As she paces back through the hallways to the appropriate room, she inquires over the comm as to whether the Lady Syf is free for a moment? Syf comes on comm and burbles, "Be right there, Frey!" Almost before the manus can make good their escape, she arrives. Freyja winces amusedly, and manages to get back to the room just in time!

Syf comes in with her boundless energy, and asks, "Are you done with my helper yet? I was going to take him riding and try and show him some of what this gathering we're planning is about. The poor man has never seen any of it!" Alleine smiles bravely.

Freyja says, "Heiyo, Syffie!" She waves the energetic girl in, closing the door behind them, then adds with almost diffident casualness, "Mother said you'd want to know Vakkal's my newest paramour." She pauses for the explosion of enthusiasm.

Syf hugs Freyja gleefully, "Oh, Frey, that's wonderful!" Freyja laughs, hugging her sister easily back -- with the ease of long experience, in fact. Syf bounds over and hugs Vakkal, too. Since he was braced for it, he doesn't fall down, and her comment of, "Oooh, you're so furry!" only make him blush a great deal.

Freyja grins and calmly adds, "Remember the discussion you had with Master Roakkana about our guest?" She tilts her head slightly at Alleine, then gives her sister an inquiring look.

Syf lets Vakkal go and stops, putting her arms down and standing a little straighter. She glances at the Wookiee -- who smiles his reassuring smile at her -- and says, "Hai... is there a problem?"

Freyja nods, satisfied, "Hai... well, you were right." She smiles, adding, "Poor kuras Alleine is sure you won't like him any more now you know, though, even though I assured him otherwise." She adds cautioningly, "That's not public knowledge, of course, until Mother's figured out how the Haus is going to handle it. You know all that, though."

Syf looks indignant, "Alle! What would make you think that?" She almost pouts for a moment, decides better of it, and then says with a knowing smile, "I had kind of worked it out anyway." She looks a mite embarrassed and adds, "I hope you can forgive me for teasing you. It wasn't nice of me."

Freyja grins amusedly at her sister, "I thought that might be why you were asking so many questions. Tsk."

Syf looks more embarrassed, and says, "I was wondering if he'd tell me." She says sincerely, "I'm sorry, Alleine. It was not nice of me. I hope you can forgive me." Freyja smiles, watching quietly. She's pleased things are working out so nicely. Startled and surprised, hai... but pleased as well.

Alleine is, to be blunt, flabbergasted. Eventually he gasps out, "You knew?" and finally, "I forgive you... it's all right... I... you knew?" Freyja grins again. Guess Alleine completely missed her gentle hints.

Syf giggles a little and takes Alleine's hand, "Silly man, people like you have been all over the HoloNews. And when my Jedi sister sends one home who gets watched so very closely by Master Roakkana, it was an easy conclusion to come to." She pats his hand, then says, "Considering the timing I have to suspect you were involved with that rat of a senator, and that Frey and her sweeties kicked your ass and sent you home. Why else would you turn up when you did?"

Freyja eyes her sister amusedly, murmuring, "Language..." but smiling as she does so.

Zero murmurs, "I did say I was sorry."

Freyja laughs softly at Zero's comment, then settles down, "Well. I shall have a touch more tea, I think, since it appears Syffie's taking lucky Alleine riding!" She grins at his expression.

Alleine is completely stunned. After Freyja's warning he eventually murmurs, "Well, you did kick my ass." He looks in surprise at Syf and adds, "You don't hate me? I was trying to kill your sister."

Freyja chuckles, helping herself to another nibble-cake, "Ah, it appears kuras Alleine's not been hunting either! There are lots of things, creatures, and people who've tried killing me over the years. It'd be a waste of time to stay annoyed, I feel." She waves a golden hand at Vakkal and Fhazil, adding cheerfully, "How do you think Zero and I met these two?"

Syf shrugs to Alleine, "You got over it. I'd be a lot less happy if you'd managed, but since you're better now I forgive you."

Freyja coughs on her nibble-cake at that! Alleine looks stunned, and Vakkal says, "That's right. Zero nearly cut me in half the first time we met."

Freyja grins, brushing crumbs off her lap, and adds with mock mournfulness, "Was it something I said?!"

Zero clears his throat and murmurs again, nearly inaudibly, "...I said I was sorry..."

Fhazil laughs, adding, "And I flirted with the pretty girl even as she shot that huge blaster she carries at me, as I fled on a swoop." Freyja giggles.

Syf laughs, then says, "Poor Leif has no chance, then, eh? He'll never try and kill you." Freyja blinks at her sister incredulously for a split second -- then falls over backwards on her cushion, laughing! She almost spills her tea, one hand still up in the air to try to keep the sloshy thing level. She's laughing so hard she's almost wheezing! Vakkal casually takes the teacup from her.

Alleine is at this point staring from person to person, overwhelmed. Master Roakkana comments to him, "I wouldn't let it bother you, Alleine."

Freyja braces herself on one elbow, still giggling, using her free hand to wipe tears from her eyes as she breathlessly manages to squeeze out, "Oh, goddess! Oh, that's hysterical -- falling in love only with folks who try to kill you! We could make a fortune on a holovid of that, Syffie!"

Syf says, "Well, it's stood you in pretty good stead so far, hasn't it?" She cocks her head and asks, "Have you tried to kill her too, Zero?"

Freyja finally manages to stop even the hiccups of amusement, and waves a hand casually at her sister, still grinning broadly, "Oh, shoo, you! Take poor kuras Alleine riding, so he has a chance to recover!"

Zero says, "Mostly I ogled her from afar. I used to kill people for a living." Freyja giggles again, remembering a few ogles that were definitely not from afar!

Syf smiles, "She's got a lot of fellows doing that now." She eyes her sister and adds, "Particularly dressed like that." She grins mischievously and asks, "Shall I get one too? We could go out and stop speeder traffic. It'd be a whole new trend."

Zero says, "Bit hard on the infrastructure."

Freyja hmfs amusedly at her sister, "Do not! I try to stop them attacking me and each other!" She laughs again, swinging gracefully upright, "Heh, that'd be a new trend, hai? But neh... it's just not pretty enough for formal wear. Not enough colors."

Syf grins at Zero, "Hai, but only half the drivers inconvenienced seem to mind."

Freyja rolls her eyes in amusement, "All right, if you silly people try to tell me Sith lords are going to fall for me too after they've attacked us, I am simply not going to buy this any more!"

Syf grins, "Oh, we could fix the colors..." and giggles. She adds, "But enough plotting to distract all the men, and let us go riding, Alleine."

Freyja blows a cheerful raspberry at her sister, then grins and waves at Alleine, "Have fun! All you have to do is hang on -- Syf's an excellent rider!"

Alleine says, "Er... uh... okay." Syf beams, "See, it's working already!" then giggles and leads Alleine out of the room.

In the moment of silence that always seems to follow Syf's departure Vakkal says quietly, "I don't care what Magnussen says. Your sister is scary."

Freyja laughs again quietly, in spite of herself, then grins ruefully, "That was just too rich -- the image of guys attacking me so I'd fall in love with them!" Zero grins a meaningful grin at Fhazil. Freyja shakes an amused finger at Zero, still grinning, "Neh hinting at any guys, either!" Then she smiles at Vakkal, "Whyso? I mean, she's a bit overwhelming sometimes, but she does mean well, you know?"

Fhazil says, "What? I was distracted. There's this beautiful woman in black leather here." Freyja laughs again! Then she grins and leans to hug all her lovers with cheerful abandon.

Vakkal says, "There's just... so much of her. She's everywhere." Freyja snickers cheerfully at Vakkal.

Zero says, "Hinting. Not at all. Anyone below our level of skill could get killed."

Fhazil says, "And anyone above our level of skill might wind up in bed with us. Do they make beds that big?" He grins cheerfully and doesn't even try and dodge the smack he's sure he'll get. Freyja gives Fhazil an amused, exasperated glance as she reaches to poke him -- but then pauses, grinning, as she realizes Vakkal's faster! Fhazil says, "Ooof! Hey!" and glares at Vakkal who is not only faster, but has claws. The canid in question is grinning toothily. Freyja giggles!
