The First Mission - Part 11

Cosmic Guardians:The Double-Edged Sword

Part 11:...And Into The Firefight

Inside the lab, Nikki looks sharply towards the direction of the sound and starts flying through walls and furniture in that direction, looking around for the source. Nikki ends up hovering in mid air outside the lab...the two men she was listening to earlier in the car are out of it now. One appears to be behind the car itself, and the other one is behind a mailbox across the street. The man behind the car, seems to be hit, as he is clutching a wound. Both have what look like black pistols out. The one behind the mailbox peeks out from behind the mailbox, in a vague diurection across the road towards the residential houses.

Nikki takes a second to understand and then swoops over to the van and becomes visible inside it. "Someone in those houses over there-" She points vaguely towards the houses. "-just shot one of the Echelon guys!"

Lupis says, "I know, I watched her do it through my cat! She shot one of those government thugs?" Seconds before Nikki appeared, Lupis was watching the woman aiming out the window with her sniper rifle...meanwhile, the other man had a gun in one hand and grabbed what looked like a walkie-talkie in the other, shouting something into it. Unfortunately, as before, Lupis couldn't tell what it was...but as the cat watched, the man put down the gun and started rummaging around in a duffel...and came up with something that looked suspiciously like....a grenade launcher. Then, between the man kicking the cat, and Nikki coming in and yelling, Lupis loses his focus and the spell breaks.

Nikki blinks a moment at what, to her, is a non-sequitor. She nods. "Yeah...they're out of the car with guns out and one of them is clutching a wound."

Reynard is diving into the back of the van. "Okay," He calls hurridly, unzipping the duffel, "I should've done this earlier. Sasha, I feel you should stay by the van, offer cover, and stay back, but move if we need to. I have no idea how good a shot you are, but at least you can offer cover or distraction fire." He drops a pistol over the seat, "Lupis, you want the shotgun? Or should we hand that over to Nikki?"

Lupis says, "Shit! I lost the cat! Give me the shotgun. That pendecho has a grenade launcher."

Sasha started waving her hands. "Wait, wait! Do we even want to get involved, here? I mean, One side is Echelon, the other is...who knows. Are the scientists in any danger here? I mean, remember Reynard...those guys were chasing you a while back. They might recognize you and start shooting you!"

Nikki looks back and forth between her shouting teammates. "Hey, yeah! Who says we want to help the spooks?!"

Lupis says, "You think they'd be camped out with sniper rifles watching the lab just to shoot at Echelon thugs?"

Reynard winces. "I didn't think a grenade could be fired from that distance to hit them." He's removing the shotgun, glancing up. "This is an 'Incase Shit Happens' protocal, Sasha. I'm not leaping out of the van to trade potshots with a grenade lobbing monkey, but if we come under fire, or need to protect the scientists, then I'm going to ensure we're damned prepared." In the distance, there's the sounds of gunfire being traded back and forth.

Nikki frowns. "Fine fine...just...let them kill each other first...and if they're still coming...then maybe we can help."

Lupis grins, "Hey, good idea. If they kill each other, we can take all their intelligence and dust off." Lupis takes the shotgun, and lays it carefully across his lap.

Reynard nods to Nikki, pushing the shotgun over the back seat. "Right. I'm just passing out equipment."

Sasha doesn't seem to like it. "Okay then...." She reaches into the glovebox and pulls out two communicators. "They're set to Channel 12. If you need me to drive up and evac, give me a call." She hands one to Lupis.

Nikki glances at Reynard and Lupis. "I...guess I'll go watch the gunfight."

Sasha looks at Nikki. "Stay loose, Nik. If it looks like they're going to take the fight inside, you do what you can to stop them, since you can get through fences and walls and such."

Reynard nods to Nikki. "Right. If one of the scientists come out, then you get to us as fast as your ethereal legs will carry you," He states, coming out of the back with another pistol, clips, and three shells. The last he hands to Lupis. "Two slugs, one buck," Before taking the communicator and slipping it into a pocket. Lupis loads the two slugs, and slips the other shell into a coat pocket. He follows Reynard out of the van, slipping the shotgun under his long black coat. Nikki meanwhile nods at the orders and blinks out, heading out through the wall of the van and around the church to see how the fight is going.

Reynard looks in the van's side window at Sasha, "Be careful." Then heads toward the church, using cover as best he can. There's no need in getting shot at early.Lupis keeps his distance from the building itself, not wanting to contact the church's protective magics again. He uses the trees and row and shrubs to hide behind, sneaking up towards the scene.

The bounty hunter manages to make his way noiselessly around through the bushes...he can now see the muzzle of a sniper rifle pointing out the window of the house directly across the street from the lab...he can also see the front of the black sedan, but neither of the men are visible from his angle. Reynard quickly decides to find a better place which would hold up as cover, instead of a bush. Bullets have a bad habit of going through leaves and branches. He locates a much more suitable position behind a thick tree. His glocks are already out, the safeties off, but he's waiting.

The young ghost is flying above the shootout, not having to worry about any sort of cover for herself...things have not changed remarkably from what she can see. The sedan is now getting well shot up...there are spider-webbed windows and blown tires and broken tail lights...The man behind the sedan appears to be talking into a communicator of his own. His wound is bandaged with his own tie, and he aims and point his gun at the window even as Nikki watches, firing a couple shots that go wild.

Nikki takes in the action quickly, noting the communicator. Glancing at the front of the lab to make sure that no one is stupid enough to come out, she then heads towards the house with the sniper, aiming straight at the wall next to it. As Nikki is flying, she sees the other man suddenly darting across the street towards the house. As she does, however the muzzle of...something else, points out the second story window....and something flies forth with a 'shoonk' sound. The flying object looks like it's going to hit the man squarely...but then he looks up at just the right moment and hurls himself forward. The grenades impacts behind him, and the force from the explosion sends the agent hurling forward at much greater speed than he was a moment ago. He almost collides with the house, but appears to have escaped the worst of it...

Reynard whistles, quietly, watching the action from behind his tree. The man belongs on a Rugby field. The woman's sniper rifle speaks again...apparently, she's got a semi-automatic, and not a bolt action on her rifle from the speed of the report...and it hits the car again. Staying behind his tree, Reynard just keeps his hands upon his guns, waiting for an opportunity, or a situation where action is needed. He's patient to sit and let them kill one another first.

Lupis peers through the bushes, also watching the grenade impact, his gaze then flicking up to the window, then back down to the suited agent sprawled near the front of the house. Lupis watches, waiting for the opportunity to get across there without being seen. Preferably while they're fighting it out with each other inside.

Nikki, meanwhile, fades through the wall of the house...and sees the woman aiming her rifle through the window, eye looking through the scope. The other man comes back in to the room then, cursing. "I don't know if I missed or not...but now the damn black suit is out of range. I can't shoot straight down..." He pulls out his communictor and yells into it. "I say again, this is SpyEye 1, calling for immediate dust off! Shots have been fired, and perimeter is in danger of being breached! Come back!"

As she listens, the communicator is loud enough for her to hear the response. "SpyEye 1, this is Palace. Michael 1 is on route for evac, ETA, 2 minutes."

Nikki listens to the conversation and quickly glances through the window at the lab before moving closer to the guy to look at the frequency they're using. There appears to be nothing visible around the lab. And as Nikki gets closer, she can see that this is not a standard issue communicator...there is nothing on the outside to help her determine what frequency they are using. As she is looking, however, she hears the radio speak. "SpyEye 1, this is Prince. Are you in a position to retrieve the package?"

The man walks right through Nikki as he puts the grenade launcher under his arm and retrives something else from the duffel....an M-16. "That's a negative, Prince! We have one agent pinned down, but the other is about to break perimeter. We do not have the the firepower to get in and out. The police or other MIBs are surely on route at this point." He goes out into the hallway, facing the stairwell as he sets the M-16, getting into a crouch.

As Lupis and Reynard watch, the agent that made it across the street stumbles from the shrubbery in front of the house, his gun in hand...he runs up the steps and appears to try and kick the door down. The man seems able to kick the door open in one try, and he dashes inside, and out of sight of the two watchers.

Lupis looks over towards Reynard and shrugs, pointing at the agent with a cocked thumb. Reynard spreads his hands lightly in a motionless shrug. Lupis nods, and watches the window, waiting, listening.

As they continue watching, however, the muzzle of the sniper rifle dissapears from the window. Inside, Nikki can see the woman is setting the rifle aside and is busy packing up stuff..she is removing tapes from the equipment setup on the table in the room, and collecting the weapons.

Lupis grins and slips from the bushes, to make a stealthy break across the street. Coiling the frustration of his angry blood from the pain the church caused it, he uses his unholy strength, to leap onto the roof of a car next door, then immediately again off into the shrubs that surround the house next door. Lupis's plan, however, does not go quite as he'd wanted. He makes the roof of the car okay, and amazingly enough, without a sound. He trips on the second jump into the bushes, however, and lands on his head behind the bushes of the house next door to the one with the agents inside it. Luckily, it's a stealthy head landing. His luck ends there as the butt of his shotgun gets him in the balls, to boot. Lupis lets of string of spanish swears in what wheezing breath he can muster, fighting not to black out.

Glancing from Lupis' position to the Sedan, he first makes sure the Hispanic is okay. Then, taking a chance, the hunter holds his gun upward, like a police officer, and moves toward the sedan. Hopefully, in a quiet, and unseen manner from the wounded Suit. The hybrid manages to make it across the sidewalk, and is now on the side of the shot up sedan. He can hear the man behind it breathing hard, and yelling into his comm. "Goddamit, where's my backup! They're turning my car into swiss cheese!"

Above, Nikki watches the woman trying to wrap up. I think it'd be handy if she wasn't able to get out of here with all that interesting stuff. She spies the sniper rifle and moves over to it, leaning close and uses one of her learned ghostly abilities: aptly named 'magic fingers'. While most ghosts cannot make only a part of their body solid, Nikki learned, originally for the purposes of typing, how to manipulate her Aura to make only her fingers solid. After successfully focusing, she pulls the trigger of the rifle...several times. The noise is quiet deafening and she has a broad grin on her face as she does her work. The woman jumps as the rifle goes off several times, and she actually ducks behind the bed the duffel was on....the recoil causes the gun to fall from where it was leaning after about three shots, and it lands on a chair, pointing diagonally up at the cieling.

The man in the corridor, who Nikki can still see partly, doesn't seem perturbed by what just went on...perhaps he doesn't realize that it wasn't the woman pulling the trigger...he shouders the M-16 and fires on full auto, and there is the sound of wood splintering across the hall. Inside the room, The woman abruptly comes up from behind the bed with a large, shiny gun...possibly a Desert Eagle from what Nikki knows of guns...and seems shocked when she sees nothing but the sniper rifle leaning on the chair. "What the fuck?" she says to herself, slowly getting up...

Lupis picks himself up and dusts himself off...grabbing the traitorous shotgun and eying the second story window on the side of the house he's trying to get into. He decides to give it a try. He gets a running start...bounces off the side of the house...makes it to the other and bounces off...but the shotgun strapped to his coat throws off his balance and he slams into the wall of the house after his second bounce. Slams rather loudly. He falls to the ground again, but at leas this time doesn't fall on his head.

Out front, Reynard, with his gun lifted, moves around the back of the Sedan. "Drop the gun." This said with a simple American lilt, as opposed to his British voice, as he aims his gun at the fellow's head. The man blinks, and drops both his gun and his communicator, which fall to the ground with a clatter. "Whoever you are, you're making a big mistake. I'm a Federal officer you fuckwad! You think you can just cap me and walk away from it?"

"Police," Reynard says, quickly in explination. "When grenades are flying with a gunfight, I get to the first man I see." He grabs the gun the agent dropped. "Now kneel with your hands up, and tell me what's going on."

"I told you, I'm Federal Agent Dirk Stanton, on assignment by the FBI!" the man blusters. We were just sitting in the car when my partner hears something, and then all of a sudden we're dodging sniperfire! Now where the heck is the SWAT team? My partner's in there trying to fend off a guy with grenade launchers and automatic weapons, man!"

Reynard nods. "Let me see your identification, and I'll let you up. Backup should be here within a minute or two." He pauses, narrowing his eyes. "Why is the FBI here?"

Above, Nikki watches the woman with the gun, waiting to see what she does, but risks a momentary glance out the window to check the front of the lab and satisfying herself that they're still safe. The woman finally relaxes, satisfied that she's in no danger now, at least. She grabs the rifle, and starts to break it down. The communicator on the table speaks then. "SpyEye1, this is Michael 1. my ETA is 15 seconds. Prepares for EVAC." The woman yells into the hallway. "Terry! Stop fucking around with the MIB! We are out of here!"

The man, 'Terry', grunts and drops the M-16, and grabs the grenade launcher again, and fiddles with it. "GOtta lay down covering fire." He suddenly fires twice down the hall, and there's the clunk of something bouncing off walls. There is a sudden sound of an explosion down on the first floor...followed by another, enough to make the floor and walls tremble. Nikki hears the radio and rushes over to the bag of tapes when the woman isn't looking. She reaches in and tries to draw one of them out. Unfortunately, her magic fingers don't work well for dextrous applications, and it slips from her fingers and clatters into the other tapes. Damn! Fortunately, the woman doesn't seem to hear the sound over the explosions...and now she seems to be setting something up on the table.

Lupis swears and steps back away from the doorway. "Fucking grenades inside the house, who are these assholes?" He hides at the side of the door, to wait for the crazy gringos to come out. He concentrates, readying a mammal control spell to stun and daze a person.

Moments ago, at the sedan, the agent fumbles in his coat, groaning at his wound. "I'm FBI, I don't explain myself to you...but if you must know, we were assigned as bodyguard..." He pulls out his credentials, and waves them in Reynard's face.

Reynard nods, and pulls the gun down. Inwardly he smirks: with a great deal of experience, he can tell it's a fake ID. "Ok. Never can be careful. Where's that backup?" He growls, looking out over the parking lot."I can see you're clear, stay here, wait for help, keep pressure on that wound. I'm going to check on your second." With that, he darts around the Sedan, sprinting toward the house. Heading for the back.

Reynard is so impressed with himself, however, that he almost misses the door flying right at him when the explosions go off. He ducks in time, and the door smashes into the windshield behind him, and the agent behind the car lets out a surprised yelp. When he gets up, he looks back at the car. "Someone was apparently trying to show me the door." he comments wryly.

Just before Lupis was pulling himself up. Cajaro. That fucking hurt. Well, if at first you don't succeed, the hell with it. I'm going in the front.. He pulls out the shotgun, and climbs through the bushes to the front door...just in time to watch that selfsame door blow off it's hinges, barely missing Reynard. Lupis swears and steps back away from the doorway. "Fucking grenades inside the house, who are these assholes?"

Upstairs in the hall, The man appears to be busy doing something....there's a creaking sound and a couple thumps...."Come on, the chopper's almost here!" he yells, grabbing the M-16. Nikki is concentrating on the woman, however, moving a little to the side to see what she is assembling, trying to decide if she should let the sniper finish or not. What ever it is, it makes beeping noises...and then Nikki can see what it is she's doing. It's a small wedge of C4 attached to two canisters and a timer, which is now ticking down from 40 seconds...
