The Chirikh, Keesha's shipCSS Chirikh floats in the void, a truly unique spelljammer. She is an odd hybrid, obviously originally a high-tech starship. Now the hullmetal cylinder of a class II Armed Freighter is the core of a wooden framework in the shape of a whale. The tubes and grids of a gravitic drive jut out from the whale's tail, and a laser cannon turret rides the metal hull just ahead of the two ballistae mounted on the wooden deck. Those who know her original class can identify the hardpoints which still carry two gravitic missiles concealed in launching tubes. Chirikh -- Upper DeckThe upper deck of the Chirikh is wooden, a railed platform half the length of the ship and painted dark gray to match the hullmetal of the lower decks. At the stern of the 100-meter vessel, the deck is built in the semblance of a whale's flukes, raised up and forward to overhang the end of the wooden platform. Two ballistae are set amidships, one aimed to each side, and a metal turret clings to the primary hull just in front of the upper deck platform. Passenger cabins are located under the main deck, resting on the outside curve of the cylindrical armored hull. Cargo BayThe cavernous holds extend throughout the center sixty meters of the ship, dimly lit by scattered blue magelights. The space is 25 meters in diameter, subdivided now by wooden decks arranged like shelves on either end, around a 30 x 25 central space for large items. Doors at either end lead into the other sections of the ship, while a large cargo door stands halfway open to starboard and a ladder leads up to a hatch in the ceiling. Part of the space is devoted to crew quarters. Ladders run up both of the shelved ends of the cargo bay for access by non-flyers. The one on the aft end of the ship runs all the way to a hatch in the roof. BridgeThe original bridge of the Chirikh was designed with zero gravity in mind, and is poorly designed for use in Realmspace. The engineering console and piloting controls are on the deck, with normal seats, but the weapons, communications, and astrogation systems are spaced around the curve of the hull with nothing but handholds (or footholds) to keep the operator in place. This saves space but makes things a little difficult for non-chiropteran pilots. An airlock leads to the outside at the rear of the control room, and a passage back into the rest of the ship exits from the middle of the back wall. The viewscreens and displays are dark now, but several magelights allow the space to be used as a private and spacious cabin for the little bat that captains the vessel. The space also contains the Helm, with which Keesha directs the vessel. Her former day cabin next to the bridge has been converted to secure storage for valuable cargo. Engine RoomA cylindrical volume 30 meters long and 25 in diameter, Engineering is crammed with machinery. The space is dark, lit only by a single red magelight near the doorway, but there is a sense of crowding and the musty-sharp smell of ozone still lingers. Power sleeps here, waiting for the day when it will be reawakened. |
