"This is Your Life"

Taygeta returns to the Alamo in answer to his summons to Heaven. On the way, he writes a thank-you note and leaves it in his pocket for the human to find: 'Aric: Thanks for the lift. You missed a wild week, but I didn't do anything to get you in trouble, so you'll be fine. I took the liberty of rescuing a young cat from the animal shelter in your name, so if you get messages from them about "Tay," that's what they are.'

Jean's office occupies the entire top floor of the Halls of Progress; most of it is taken up by laboratory space filled with row after row of sophisticated machinery humming away contently to itself. To that end, the entire place hums with a low pulsation. At the far wall, in front of a broad window, with the Eternal City in the background, is a long, black, glass desk. A very large flat-screen monitor sits at one side, and behind it, standing with arms folded and looking a little less pleased than usual (which is saying something), is the Archangel of Lightning, wearing a green sweater and dark slacks. If not for his amazingly sharp features and eyes that threaten to actually emit some sort of death ray if looked at too long, he'd resemble a displeased high school science teacher.

Taygeta enters and 'bows,' "Reporting as ordered, sir."

Jean says, "And what in the Hell were you thinking? Quickly now, Taygeta, I don't have all day and neither do you."

Taygeta looks embarrassed. "The consensus was that activating the call would prevent Furfur from doing so himself. We were mistaken, unfortunately. Austin is... disorienting."

Jean is an Elohite, and as such doesn't allow himself to stare in disbelief. He does, however, demand, "And I am to believe that you could think of no better alternative than to summon Satan?"

Taygeta says, "I... not in the limited time we had. The Novalite resisted any suggestions that would have resulted in, to his mind, unnecessary deaths, and there was also some concern over the effect on young Druiel."

Jean leans forward, palms on the desk. "Druiel's mental health is not your concern, Taygeta. As noble a sentiment as that is, under no circumstances should it have ever led to your consorting with the First Fallen! Do you realize what sort of strings had to be pulled to keep you from being arraigned?"

Taygeta says, "Aye, sir. Considering that the Eliite was, I have some idea. I apologize."

The Archangel takes a deep breath and turns toward the window, hands clasped behind his back. "Tell me something, Taygeta. With your considerable parallel processing capability, do you estimate that you can fathom the gravity of the current situation?" He adds more directly, "To employ the vernacular, do you grasp the degree to which you have screwed up?"

Taygeta says, "Wheels within wheels within wheels. And that incident kicked the spokes out of a lot of them. I have at least some idea, sir."

Jean turns around, causing the 'death ray' effect again. "No, I don't believe you do, Taygeta. You are complicit in an extremely grave offense, which might rightly be classified as a sin. Do you now expect that I can in good conscience return you to Earth, knowing that you are obviously incapable of dealing with complex situations such as Austin?"

Taygeta considers that seriously for a minute. Finally, he replies. "Austin... the truce is disorienting for new arrivals. I agreed to a mistaken judgement, but I believe that I learned from that mistake. I certainly won't do anything like it a second time, sir. Do you have someone else to take over my primary mission there?"

Jean takes a deep breath. "I do believe that you won't repeat your mistake. That belief alone is the reason that the answer to your question is no. You will return to Austin. I trust that you have recovered from your... disorientation?"

Taygeta says, "Aye, sir. The... visitation... helped my focusing immensely. The situation is sensitive, regardless. Slate found some bizarre creatures in the caverns under the city, as I mentioned in my report, and the Tokamak might be down there as well. I appreciate the chance to deal with it."

Jean says, "See that you do. I have a new task for you."

Taygeta says, "Yes, sir?"

The Archangel says, "We have recently developed a device for use in dealing with Celestial infestation. I've dispatched Armisael and Sahazaquiel to bring it to you once you've found a suitable host, and explain its operation. I want you to beta test it for us and report the efficiency of the device, then return it to Armisael in three days."

Taygeta looks quizzical. "Celestial infestation, sir? Will Armisael have more information about it?"

Jean says, "The six Bands aren't the only minions Hell has to offer, Taygeta. Armisael will explain the operation."

Taygeta says, "Aye, aye, sir. Three days."

Jean nods. "Good. I will be expecting your report." Taygeta takes that as a dismissal and leaves the office, heading back to his next appointment.

Nick's hearing is being held in one of the Celestial Tribunal's smaller rooms, on the ground level. Two Malakites flank the door as Taygeta, Rosenstern, and Shateishael enter the courtroom. They close the door behind the newly entered angels. Inside are simply a table and a bench. Nick is at the table, flanked by the Seraph assigned to provide counsel. Another Ofanite flanks the bench; presumably the bailiff. Behind the bench, of course, is Dominic, this time in his Celestial form; tall, wiry, and utterly concealed beneath his dark robes. Seven eyes glare out from the cowl.

Shateishael coils up neatly where directed, folding its six wings about itself, its six eyes watching with concerned interest. Taygeta's amorphous Celestial form is subdued as he takes his place, the shifting slower than normal in respect for the proceedings. Thessaloniki is also in Celestial form, a wheel of fire spinning slowly in place, as calmly and as serenely as any of the assembled have ever noticed an Ofanite to be. He goes where he is directed, and seems under no restraint or compulsion.

Rosenstern's Celestial wings twitch slightly; it's been a long time since he's been in Heaven, and the sight of Judgement is unnerving. But, as Nick had said, this is Heaven; where else would one get a fair trial? He comforts himself as best as he can, glancing around. No other Superiors, he thinks. This is definitely what Novalis said about being careful.

But if telling the truth about why we did what we had to means essentially not being careful... then I'm sorry, Novalis. I have come to like the Eliite, and I can't let him be thrown to the Dominicans, a sacrifice to however good an ideal that the fight against heresy is, and no matter how important Dominic is to the order of Heaven... He drifts quietly to his indicated position, his wings brushing the floor, barely moving yet not needing to, his radiant gaze lowered humbly and, admittedly, worriedly.

Dominic intones, "This hearing will come to order. We will inquire into the Truth of charges of Heresy brought upon the Ofanite of Creation, Thessaloniki." He folds his hands on the bench. The fingers are impossibly long and appear to be wrapped in strips of some kind of pale cloth. "It is a matter of record that on the 17th of August, at nine twenty-two PM in Austin, Texas, Lucifer made himself manifest at a music festival; events witnessed by two respected Archangels."

Dominic continues. "At that manifestation the Lightbringer proceeded to grant several boons of individuals present. Specifically, two demons, one human... and, more to the point, one angel -- that being one Thessaloniki. I need not reiterate the grave implications of such a bargain, and so I will ask this simple question. What did you hope to gain by making a deal with the First Fallen?"

Shateishael shifts uncomfortably on its coils... That's not correct! Thessaloniki says, "Sir, that information is not an accurate description of the events which occurred at the Festival. Lucifer granted me no boon, nor did he even speak to me there. I cannot answer your question, as it is not germane; I never made a 'deal' or bargain of any sort with Lucifer, nor did I intend to, nor would I have had one been offered." He adds, "I would be happy to give you an accurate description of the events which did transpire, as I am aware of them."

Dominic nods. "Very well, then, please explain for the court the events of eleven AM on that date in the abandoned warehouse belonging to J.M. Judge and Co.?"

Thessaloniki tells the story of the summoning, including the correct date, the reasoning which led to making this unusual decision, and a precise and accurate description of what occurred. Dominic says, "And you felt that this was an appropriate action for an angel to undertake... that there were no viable alternatives?"

Rosenstern would be swallowing nervously if he were corporeal. Yes! he thinks to himself. Yes, yes, by the Garden, yes! He closes his eyes and forces himself, struggles with himself to be calmer. But the way Dominic opened the Tribunal did not make him any more comfortable.

Thessaloniki answers, "It was the only possibility any of us could come up with which did not absolutely lead to a new demon Prince, or the deaths of several innocent humans and, likely, angels as well. We ran into opposition to every other suggestion we made, from the other angels involved, and had no time or resources to pursue other alternatives."

The Archangel is silent for several moments, considering impassively. His eyes do not blink, nor move. Thessaloniki also remains in place, his fiery spokes still turning slowly. He has spoken truly and calmly, and sees no reason to fear or flee. Dominic finally says, "I understand that you committed this act with the intention of preserving the lives of others, and preventing Furfur's ascent. I have already received the opinions of your respective Superiors in this matter... at this time I will hear the statement of Shateishael, Seraph of Stone and Silent Angel."

Shateishael straightens slightly, nodding politely once. Unless directed otherwise, it concisely retells the story of the group's endeavors to prevent the creation of a new demon Prince, while still working towards the benefit of humanity. It makes sure to mention all the alternatives the group did their best to come up with, and how each of them was shot down by events or other angels or demons present at the time... and it does not gloss over in the least how it was the one pushing people to organize. It's had time to think about and prepare for this moment, after all... and it concludes by firmly stating its belief that the group, and Thessaloniki in particular, acted in the best fashion they could to bring about the best solution they could discern to this puzzle.

Shateishael, in fact, mentions quite clearly that it was impressed by its friend Thessaloniki's bravery and resoluteness during this entire affair... summoning Lucifer was, quite bluntly, not a pleasant experience, and Shateishael is, in retrospect, glad that it did not have to speak to the Fallen One. However, honesty compels Shateishael to point out that despite their best efforts, Lucifer did not grant the requested boon... and thus Shateishael knows that it, and most probably the rest of the group also, would consider trying to reason, bargain, ask a boon of, or summon Lucifer again, to be a waste of time as an option.

Shateishael takes a deep breath, then adds quietly, "That is, to the best of my knowledge, the Truth of what occurred."

Judgement replies, "Your statement is duly considered. I will hear the statement of Taygeta, Kyriotate of Lightning." Shateishael wonders if it should mention the why of choosing Nick... no. It nods and remains silent.

Taygeta's pulsing changes as he is summoned to speak. "It is as Shateishael has said. Would you wish to see the events as they occurred?"

Dominic says, "That is not necessary. You have nothing further you wish to add to the record?"

Taygeta says, "I can only add my own opinions, Lord of Judgement. I too was unable to see any other option that had a chance of preserving the humans and defeating, at least in some measure, the plans of Furfur. We may have been in error, but there was no intention of bargaining with the First Fallen."

Dominic raises his head a bit. "Duly recorded. I will hear Rosenstern, Mercurian of Flowers."

Rosenstern nods quietly, and comes to the fore. He himself relates the events, perhaps not as precisely or concisely as Slate or Taygeta, but certainly with emotion. He comes to realize that Dominic will stop him if he gets overly emotive in his words. But he is Mercurian; he knows Slate will relate the Truth of the matter, and that is what Dominic is interested in. He is not aiming for the Truth. More to the point, he is relating the truth, but speaking his heart. He cannot resist his nature. He is a "people person," after all. He wants to convince Dominic of how much they needed to do this, how there was no other choice, how Nick volunteered to risk himself. How much of a sacrifice this was, how much Nick believed so strongly that it needed to be done that he was willing to sacrifice his very self in this endeavor.

Embarrassment would have him see no immediate need to tell the court how much Lucifer scared the wits out of him, and startled him -- literally -- out of his vessel straight into celestial form. But if mentioned he relates that as well, trying to be direct and frank about it -- he suspects that anyone who runs into the Lightbringer won't exactly walk away unchanged. He wants to put his heart into his words, to bring to what he says every emotion he felt in the events. He wants them to not merely hear what he has to say, but to experience it. Just as a dance must be performed by oneself to be truly understood, so too does he want them to experience what those events were.

He can but try.

In the end, more emotion than logic has colored his words. But just as Truth is Slate's paradigm, and Logic is Taygeta's... flowers, just flowers, is Rosenstern's.

Dominic gives the Mercurian his full attention, listening with folded hands. "There is nothing else?"

Rosenstern blinks a little. But... there is. There's everything everyone was feeling, everything that everyone experienced... every note of the Symphony played by each player... but is that really the Truth that Dominic is looking for? He is hesitant for a few moments, then lowers his gaze, the Mercurian radiance muted, wings dimmed of luster. "No," he says finally, "-nothing else that I can say for myself, O Judgement. What more there is, is beyond words."

Dominic says simply, "I understand." He turns his gaze back to the Ofanite. "It is my finding that the events of August 17th were carried out with the highest of intentions... and that no pernicious intent was present in their execution. While I cannot condone associating with Lucifer... I do approve of turning such a meeting against a new-fledged Prince." The Archangel straightens, rising. "As such, I find Thessaloniki innocent of the crime of Heresy. This inquiry is adjourned, and it is my hope that I need not see any of you in this capacity a second time. You may go." The Malakites outside open the doors.

Thessaloniki does whatever the equivalent of a respectful bow is while celestial, and makes his way slowly outside, letting Slate and the others catch up with him. He seems at ease. Shateishael beams at Thessaloniki, all six eyes bright with happiness, and flies swiftly over to leave with the Ofanite. Rosenstern blinks, That's it? That's it! and lets out a relieved breath -- years on Earth make habits like that hard to break. He bows respectfully to Judgement, then follows the others outside, catching up with them. He beams, his wings trembling and ruffling faintly in the breezeless air.

Taygeta drifts out of the chamber behind the Ofanite and the Seraph, pleased at the outcome of the hearing. "Are you returning to Austin? I have another request from my Superior while we hunt for the Tokamak."

Shateishael grins over its shoulder at the Kyriotate, "I have to... got another mission to take care of."

Thessaloniki nods and says, "I promised Marius and Darius I'd help them, so I should. I want to make sure the house is okay, and then I can go back and help them with that."

Shateishael nods, "That too, yes."

Rosenstern nods a little. "And since Austin is where Novalis wishes me, that's where I'm off to as well." He remembers then that she had given him names of others to visit besides Zara, and he makes a note to visit them shortly after he returns to Earth.

The Warder Cherub that participated in arresting Nick intercepts him approximately ten seconds out of the courtroom to escort him back to the Alamo Tether. She informs the group that she is tasked with returning Nick to his home, and to that end has a car waiting on Earth. Her car is a large, black Mercedes. Thessaloniki smiles and thanks her politely. He pauses to admire the car, and is all too happy to be going home. Shateishael will, if Nick does not mind, ride along. Rosenstern follows along as well, but only if the Cherub, the Ofanite, and the Seraph don't mind his attendance either.

Taygeta's waiting host on Earth, at the Alamo, is a cat, and he comes along also. Lysette, the Cherub, narrows her eyes slightly at the cat on her upholstery... but says nothing. She drives extremely fast. Taygeta-cat makes himself comfortable on Rosenstern's lap, since the Cherub doesn't seem to want fur on her upholstery. Shateishael grins at the Cherub's eyeing of the cat, but says nothing. Instead he just enjoys the ride... waiting until they're all dropped off back at Nick's place.

Thessaloniki comments quietly on the driving, "You make good time," and seems undisturbed by the high speeds.

Lysette responds, "I don't like to waste time." And she doesn't; she makes the Ranch in record time, and intact. The sky's low and gray and slightly drizzly today, and there are three figures waiting around as the car pulls up. The straight-laced young Dominican who led the Triad is standing in front of the office door. Out in the lot a man in a black Hawaiian shirt is nudging the tires of one of the refurbs with the toe of his Airwalks; he's carrying a metal case handcuffed to his left wrist. Next to him is a willowy young woman with white hair, wearing a long black overcoat.

Rosenstern idly pets the cat, watching the passage of the scenery outside. When the car stops, he continues to carry the cat if Taygeta doesn't mind, reasoning that this is easier on the Domination. He blinks to himself in surprise at the new people, and nods pleasantly to the unknowns, smiling quietly. Taygeta-cat purrs, staying in character. He has no objection to being carried.

Shateishael thinks dryly to himself, Now what... Thessaloniki gets out of the car and casually, as if it happened every day, says, "Hello, everyone. Would y'all like to come in out of the rain?" He makes a point to include Lysette in the invitation, although he expects her to make good her escape as soon as the car is clear of passengers.

The young woman turns, grinning, the collar of her overcoat turned up, "Love to." With her porcelain complexion and impossibly crimson eyes she resembles an ad for some overly hip RPG. Her companion just nods, "Excellent," and follows, carrying his case. The dark-suited young man steps forward and shakes his head, "Thank you, but I've got to be going. I just came to return your keys, Nick."

Thessaloniki collects them, thanking the fellow and saying, "All right. Come by any time." With a wry grin he adds, "Never know who'll turn up here." Shateishael watches quietly, arms folded.

The Dominican hands over the keys readily, "Of course. I'm pleased to see that you're innocent, Nick." Lysette and the pale girl in the overcoat seem to be sharing a peculiar look, before the Dominican distracts Lysette by asking if she's ready to go. The investigators depart, leaving the woman and her companion and his case.

Thessaloniki unlocks the doors and invites all the collected visitors in to his living room, geared for entertaining, asking, "Anybody want anything to drink?"

Rosenstern this time does blink, at the woman's eyes. That seems really noticeable... or maybe it's a current fashion? "Nothing for me -- thank you, though!" He finds that if he looks for more than a few moments, he could get lost in this woman's eyes.

Thessaloniki opens the door and asks the tall girl, "So, do you know Lysette?" and making easy conversation.

The girl grins a little bit and turns down her collar. "You could say that. Sorry to hear about Dom taking an interest in you." Her companion snorts, running a hand through his slightly damp hair.

Thessaloniki shrugs and says, "He's doing his job, and he takes it seriously. I'm glad there's someone there to do it. As long as I have done nothing wrong, then I have nothing to fear from him. I'm glad it's taken care of and we can all get back to our other tasks." He hands out drinks and settles down himself, saying, "So, what brings y'all out this way?"

Rosenstern tries not to be startled by the... impression of the woman's eyes. He absently lets Tay-cat down, trying to get his thoughts in order, wondering why the girl's eyes are so mesmerizing... Shateishael watches the Dominicans leave, wondering idly if the young man really means that about being glad Nick's not guilty. Following the others inside, he gets a beer after Nick's gotten drinks for the others, then flops comfortably on a chair, one long leg over an arm of the chair, and grins as he watches Rosenstern fall for the Bright.

The woman smiles brightly, and it immediately puts one at one's ease. "Actually," she says, "-we're here to see Taygeta." Taygeta-cat scouts around for a moment, then pops into the room again, putting his feet up on the case and meowing once. He runs back into the office, and the sounds of a computer booting up can be heard. Shateishael snorts quietly in faint amusement, and goes back to drinking.

Thessaloniki nods and says, "All rightie. He's around here. Let me know if I can get anything," and smiles.

Shateishael calls out, "Tay-Tom, why don't you get a radio for your collar, guy?" He looks over at Nick, "Maybe a radio in here, so Taygeta can talk too? Or... d'you have any crows around? They're supposed to have the vocal cords for speech?"

Thessaloniki says, "There's always crows hanging around."

The woman nods, "We'll wait for him." She notices Rosenstern staring at her, and flashes him a smile that would stop a human's heart.

Taygeta-cat comes back into the room after a moment, then pointedly jumps on the young man's lap, stretches up to go face-to-face, and gently nips his nose. He then jumps down and... saunters is the only word for it... back into the office. Rosenstern blinks and realizes too late that he's been staring. He smiles sheepishly, a little shyly, and tries very hard to not stare; it's impolite. He blinks a little, wondering if these are Lightning's people, when she says they're there to talk with Taygeta. He starts looking around for the cat... "Ah, there he is..."

Shateishael sighs, with a grin, and rises to follow the cat into the computer room. He looks down at the cat, "Wouldn't it be easier for you to Dominate a radio in the other room or something?"

Taygeta types, Not really. I can't do it for very long at a time, and this conversation may take a while.

Shateishael nods. "All right. Go on."

The pale girl grins a little at the Mercurian. The tall man makes a rather indignant face, and follows into the other room. "Kyriotates," he mutters. Shateishael grins sideways at the man.

Thessaloniki follows on in, casually following and admiring the two cuties, and comments, "Gonna be tricky not being able to talk, Taygeta." He settles in his own office chair, which creaks comfortably, and watches the cat on his paper-festooned desk type.

Taygeta types, That's Armisael and Sahazaquiel, two of my colleagues. They've got a prototype I'm supposed to test. Although they weren't supposed to deliver it until I found a human host again.

Shateishael says to the cat, "Well, they're here now, guy." He looks at the man, nodding politely, "Sahazaquiel? Shateishael... call me Slate."

Armisael grins. "Busted. That's us... but you can call me Rei while I'm here." Sahazaquiel says, "Call me Sax."

Shateishael nods politely to the lady, touching the side of the index finger of his right hand in quiet salute to his temple, "Ma'am. Nice to meet you."

Taygeta types, Shateishael had a suggestion on that score. A small collar with a powered speaker system, collar sized. I could possess it for brief conversations. Easier than explaining a parrot, I think. The two Lightning angels look at each other, hearing that. Sax shrugs, with a don't look at me expression, and sets the case down on a table.

Thessaloniki says, "Pleased to meet both of you." To the cat he says, "I knew a guy who wore a parrot. Nobody'd ask if Slate had one. He's the right sort."

Rosenstern smiles, nodding. "Rosenstern," he says, "-a pleasure to meet you both."

Shateishael reads, then grins at Nick. To Tay-Tom he shrugs, "Could always try a crow, a mynah bird, or a jay? Y'ask me, I'd prefer a crow... large enough not to get lost, and small enough to fit in my jacket if necessary."

Taygeta-cat makes an odd noise and types, Quoth the Raven, Nevermore. It might work, though their vocal chords aren't quite right. I do need to find another human.

Thessaloniki comments, "And black." He nods to the two visitors, "Don't let us interrupt. Shall we leave you to it?"

Shateishael grins at Nick over a sip of beer, then loftily says, "Gotta watch my reputation, y'know!"

Rei says to Nick, "Oh, not at all. Actually you might want to hear this, since he might be enlisting your help in the beta test. Can't hurt to know what you're dealing with, right?" Shateishael nods to Rei thoughtfully.

Rosenstern glances over to the computer screen and frowns a little bit. "It might be hard finding a willing human."

Sax says, "We ready? I'm gonna crack the case if we're gonna do this. Rei, give 'em the spiel."

Thessaloniki smiles, "Lay it on us, then, so we can get back to something a little more social." Shateishael sits down where he can see the screen, turning the chair to straddle it and rest his arms on the back.

Taygeta-cat types, Best way is to find a derelict, heal him up, and take over for a brief time. Does him a good turn and gives you an easy ride. We'll see. Go ahead, Sax, Rei. Let's hear it.

Rosenstern blinks, looking over to Rei... and Sax as well, of course. He resists the tiny amount of worry which tries to clamor for his attention. Shateishael wrinkles his nose a bit and grins, thinking, Tay better have the guy take a bath first, or Nick's not gonna want him in one of his cars... Nick gets hinky enough at how dusty I get sometimes! He grins lazily over at Nick... then has a sip of beer and turns his attention to the two newcomers.

Rei frowns. "Bleh. All right. Break it open, Sax." She turns to the cat, then decides to just look at the computer screen when she speaks in an effort to feel less stupid. "Okay... by accepting this prototype you hereby sign over to me a Geas to the following effect: you will make every attempt to return this device after the testing period has expired in equal or better condition to that in which you received it, and take responsibility for the use and care of and any incidental damage that may occur to the device. Do you understand?" As she speaks, Sax opens the metal case with a combination of key, combination, and brief muttered invocation. He hands something from it over to Rei without looking; it's an electronic pad similar to the kind UPS couriers carry.

Thessaloniki's face remains impassive, but he thinks, Why is it that no angels seem to trust each other? Aren't we all working towards the same goal? Taygeta-cat nods. Rei finds she can't keep a straight face and sighs, smiling, as she points the blunt end of the attached stylus at the cat. "You have to sign for this." Shateishael covers his grin with the beer bottle... he'd been waiting for how she'd react to realizing that! Rosenstern blinks, and covers his mouth to cover a little grin, not so much at Taygeta's new predicament so much as surprise of the moment.

Taygeta-cat nods imperiously, and pats a paw on the desk where he is sitting. When Rei puts the pad down he reaches out with a single claw and traces his name on the touch-sensitive pad. It's a little shaky, the cat's reflexes not meant for this, but it is recognizably his signature. Taygeta-cat returns to the computer and types, So what does it do, and how does it do it?

Rei nods, "Okay then." She hands the pad back to Sax, who grins, saying, "You realize this thing is about the size of that cat." He lifts the device out of the case; it's a fat cylinder of translucent dark plastic-looking material, topped with a thick metallic 'lid' studded with small lights and controls. He sets it down on the table. Rei turns to watch him, brushing back her hair. As she does so one might notice she seems to have an earring that she wasn't wearing before, up in the cartilage of her ear: a tiny silver ring studded with a sliver of gold, like the fragment of a Heart.

Rei says, "According to the docs, it's a Celestial Manifestation Impedance Unit. In English... it sucks up Gremlins." Taygeta-cat hisses and mews. When no one reacts, he types CMIU on the screen. Shateishael watches in silent interest, sipping from his beer and wondering if this is like the thing Darius was talking about. He glances at the screen... then wonders why the cat hissed.

Thessaloniki says, "Complete sentences, cat. Nobody gets it yet." Shateishael grins again at Nick.

The two Lightning angels look at each other again. Rei's turn to shrug. Sax says finally, "What?" Shateishael covers his grin again with the beer bottle... then looks out the office window, wondering if he can see any crows.

Rosenstern leans over slightly to look at the device, and frowns a little bit. He does, however, manage to glance up to Rei -- it's not a hard temptation to give in to -- and notices the unusual earring. It certainly looks like something Lightning's people would create. He briefly considers it for a moment, then blinks at her comment. "Gremlins?" he asks, figuring the Novalite might as well ask about the odd technology.

Rei nods. "Yeah. Y'know how we have Relievers back topside? Well, you know how rare it is for someone to Fall, right? You know how many demons're running around; they gotta come from somewhere, and we're not giving up nearly enough on this side..."

Sax is still staring incredulously at the cat and waiting for an explanation. Taygeta types again, repeats the noises and taps his paw on the screen. See-meew. CMIU. Sax winces. "That's horrendous."
