NPC Dramatis Personae
by Jonathan McDermott
Kim - Bryce's assistant in the OutWrite Bookstore. A young,
18-year-old man who's just starting to explore his sexuality. He's a
good worker, and is dedicated to Bryce and the bookstore.
Nunzio and Clarissa Disantos - Owners of an Italian deli
across the street from the OutWrite bookstore. Friends with Bryce, they
either don't know, don't care, or ignore the issues surrounding their
favorite customer.
Merv Samuels - NYPD beat cop in the SoHo area. Quite
familiar with the pickets outside of the OutWrite bookstore; he tends
to ignore them. Well-liked by many of the SoHo residents, as he's an
"alternative-lifestyle-friendly" cop.
Tyler Edwards - A professional gay rights activist
who has appeared on a number of New York City talk shows, radio, and
television. He lives comfortably in an East Side apartment.
Tyler is suave, sophisticated, and has never been prosecuted for his
homosexuality, being able to afford a lifestyle where only approving
friends have access to him. He and Bryce share an enthusiasm for gay
rights activism, but the two differ -- strongly -- in their outlook on
the gay rights movement.
Charles Deveraux III - A professional bodyguard not unknown
to Aaron Sasaki, the two having worked peripherally with each other in
the past. They shared jobs but not clients: they were hired by the same
company to protect two separate officials.
Since that time Deveraux has taken many opportunities to appear better
than Sasaki, even going so far as to subtly influence potential clients
by exaggerating his own abilities and denigrating Sasaki's. Nothing was
ever proven, of course, but this resulted in the garnering of several
challenging and well-paying clients by Deveraux, and the indirect hiring
of Sasaki by Jade's father.
