Twisting By the Pool

Roy is reluctant to sleep that night; when it comes to Sulochana he tends to want to spend every available moment with her while she's around. Still, he does eventually fall asleep with her tucked into his arms, and the next morning she wakes up to find him looking down at her with sleepy, contented eyes. Sulochana beams in lazy pleasure, wriggling up closer against him and purring, "Morning, handsome man. You keep this up and I'm not going to ever want to get out of bed!" She giggles, rubbing her head lightly under his chin and nearly purring... then at a sudden thought she curiously adds, "Hey, sweetheart? I know you dance with the pretty young men sometimes. Have you ever wanted to go to bed with them, though?"

Roy is making happy sounds of his own and his arms are starting to tighten around her when she asks the question. He blinks, "Well, ain't that a strange question t'ask."

The Hetaera laughs relaxedly, "I'm just being nosy, sweet man. Feel free to not answer if you'd rather not." She mmms lazily as she nuzzles against him, adding (somewhat distractedly), "Was a question I got last night, that I didn't know the answer to."

Roy's brows go up even further and his hands stroke down her back, "Somebody asked you that? Even stranger." His hands are playing with her hair as he considers how to answer it.

The Hetaera laughs again, resting her chin on her crossed hands where she lays over Roy's chest, "Nono, sweetheart -- I had the question, listening to other folks talking." She smiles relaxedly as she wriggles contentedly against him again, "Like I said -- just me being nosy. If it helps, I know some folks are bothered by that... but it's not something that worries me. Just curious."

The wriggling is imminently distracting and Roy's eyes are getting heavy-lidded, "Mmm. Truth be told, I did some experimentin'." He smirks, "Got talked into it, actually. The argument he used was that a mouth is a mouth and who could it hurt? Was nice, but not really my thang, y'know? Think I just like breasts too much."

Sulochana giggles at that, wriggling a little more, then grins and nods, "Lots of young boys experiment so, from what I've seen... and then get all anxious about it later, poor dears -- especially if they think the person they experimented with still carries a torch for them." She shakes her head in amused rue, "People get so tied up in knots over sex, I must say! I'm glad that doesn't bother you."

Roy chuckles and strokes his hands down her back to her hips, "Yeah. But if I worried about ever'one I thought hadda a thang for me, I'd never think 'bout ennythang else." He's obviously teasing, or at least partially so.

Sulochana laughs again, her demeanor just as teasing, "No, you're more likely to publicly puff up like a little rooster and prance around all proud of how irresistible you are -- to boys and girls alike!" The Hetaera giggles and rolls to pounce on Roy, tickling his sides, "Bad banty! No pulling the tails of the other roosters!"

Roy snorts and laughs, wriggling as she tickles him and trying to catch her hands, "Hey! Hey! Have some respect, woman!" Sulochana is utterly delighted -- that's certainly not going to stop her! She gleefully continues wriggling around and tickling madly, with a fine and cat-like lack of respect -- doing her best to reduce both Roy and herself to breathless giggles. It doesn't take long and Roy doesn't seem to mind too much. Eventually he goes limp, panting and calling, "Uncle! Uncle! I surrender! Dayum!"

Sulochana is laughing so hard she can barely breath, but she flops happily over him and wheezes, "Oh, no fair -- I was just getting started!"

Roy is still breathing heavily as he wraps his arms around her and mmms, "Been thinkin' 'bout sumpin. You seemed worried las' night that I's gonna go off an' get myself tangled up wi' someone else. Don' s'ppose me askin' ya t'marry me'd sorta fix that?"

Roy can feel Sulochana's slight start as she blinks at that... then she relaxes into Roy's arms and considers. Finally she says thoughtfully, "I... I guess I wasn't very clear last night, was I?" She smiles slowly, rubbing her cheek against Roy's warm skin as she adds with lazy bliss, "You're my beloved, Roy. Part of me just feels right when you're close, you know? That doesn't worry me... I was more concerned that you might think I didn't feel, umm... well, properly bonded with you or something, you know?" She grins as she adds, "I'm not like Fearsome Grandmother -- monogamy isn't my thing. I just want to be sure you love me too." She sounds even more blissful as she nearly purrs, "That, I can tell... both by your actions and by your chakras."

Roy manages to keep his attention on what she's saying and not what she's doing, "Of course I love ya, ma cherie." He shakes his head and chuckles again, "Yer fulla odd statements an' questions the last couple days. I ain't frettin' 'bout the bondin'. I ain't frettin' over whether ya love me. I was jest pissed off at Miz Livy for stickin' her oar in."

Sulochana sits up enough, resting her head on her hand, that she can see Roy's face. Curiously she says, "Would my marrying you really make your life easier, though, lover? Queens aren't supposed to go walk-about, are they?" She grins and adds, "Odd statements? Huh... I hadn't realized! Is it a bother?"

Roy shakes his head, crossing his hands behind it, "No bother 'tall. I already had one wife. It made my life happier, but not easier. Figure 'long as you know I love ya and I know you love me, we're good. Way I look at it, this bondin' thing's as married as we need t'be."

Sulochana's slow, quietly joyous smile lights her face up, and she gently traces the strong lines of Roy's jaw and cheekbones with a delicate fingertip. Her voice is soft, "Love you much, dear man. If you're happy, then it's just fine for me too." She grins a little ruefully, adding, "I'm not really the marrying kind, either. I mean, I know Fearsome Grandmother and Amma and Papai would adore a big fancy wedding at home, but..." she laughs softly, shaking her head, "I've seen how, um... convoluted those get, with other adopted kin -- wow! So happy to not have to go there!" Her grin gets more mischievous as she adds, "And trust me, you do not want Fearsome Grandmother sweeping in here and taking over to make sure her baby granddaughter gets married right!"

Roy chuckles and says, "I got as mucha that as I could stand with Miz Livy thinkin' she could be rude t' me fer my own good." Those last few words are said in a mocking falsetto. He raises his head and kisses the tip of her nose, "Oughta get up an' get bathed. Got some boatin' t' do an' you 'pparently don' wanna smell like we been makin' love all night 'round Eacharn. Guess I know why you were so worried 'bout him smellin' stuff now."

Sulochana giggles and nods, "Yes, the keen sense of smell in his group was him!" She chuckles quietly as she sits up and pushes back her hair, "Oh, it was more that I was concerned he might be cranky about it, during negotiations. But now your people and his are doing most of the talking, so I'm not so worried!" She considers for a moment, then grins excitedly, "Ooh, can we go swimming too?"

Roy stretches and rolls lazily out of bed, "Well, no need t' be offensive if we're gonna be stuck onna boat with 'im. Figure we can swim when we get to a wide smooth place. There's a couple of 'em round here." Calling a place on the Big Muddy "a wide smooth place" means it must be placid indeed.

Sulochana happily slithers out of bed and pats Roy's rear, giggling as she trots by him to her robe, "Sounds lovely! Mary will be thrilled -- oh, and a picnic too, yes? What does one wear to go swimming, around here?"

Roy snorts as his ass is patted, "Swimsuits if yer all proper. Which I guess we oughta be with a visitin' king an' my li'l girl along with us." He doesn't seem to be aware just how vague a term "swimsuit" is.

Sulochana nods amusedly at Roy as she belts the robe and pulls her hair free. "All right. So... what's a swimsuit around here, sweetheart? I mean, I've seen everything from swimming in the nude to skimpy little bits of underclothing, to full dresses for women that would most likely drown a horse if they ever got wet!" She thinks a bit, then adds ruefully, "I suspect I'll have to make do with a long tunic or something... I don't think I have any proper swimming clothing." She giggles as she heads to the door, "Few people take Hetaeras swimming, after all!" She leans out the door to courteously ask for breakfast and a bath for the king and herself, then turns to smile happily back at Roy, "What will you be wearing, sweetheart?"

Roy pulls out something that looks like a heavy pair of boxer shorts, "This for men. For women it's something similar, but with a sort of strappy top. I'll have 'em bring one 'long that should fit'cha."

The Hetaera blinks interestedly at the shorts, then giggles and grins wickedly up at Roy, "Mmmm, that won't hide much!"

Roy smirks and says, "It'll hide all the relevant bits."

It doesn't take long to get breakfasted and cleaned. Afterward Roy and 'Chana gather up Mary and go to meet Eacharn for boating. Sulochana is laughing as Mary skips along between the two of them, pigtails bouncing as the small girl gleefully lists all the wonderful things packed for lunch, her beautiful bathing suit that matches Sulochana's, how well she's doing in her studies, and clamors to be swung by the hands again between her papa and Mama 'Chana -- with all four topics mixed in together so it's a bit hard to follow! The Hetaera is wearing light summer clothing that's easy to get out of, and a long braid down her back as she pads along barefoot with Roy and Mary.

As host monarch, Roy's riverboat is going to be the one they all use for the outing, so Eacharn meets them at the Proud Mary's dock with a pair of his bodyguards. The two kings are a little stiffly formal at each other at first, but they aren't bristling at one another. Eacharn's largely sleepless night was spent considering what he needs to do to impress his Lady Edana. His final conclusion was that if he wanted to succeed with her, he had to get along with the people she loves. When they're all boarded, Roy takes Eacharn for a tour of the boat, giving 'Chana and Mary the option to stay behind if they'd like. Both of them, after all, are quite familiar with the boat.

The Hetaera is quite relieved to see the two kings starting to relax a bit with each other. She smiles and politely declines, since she wants to make sure Lisbet has help to settle the excited Mary into her room, and check to be sure Fantine is good with her accommodations as well, before the big riverboat embarks. Sulochana knows this will be an all-day affair, with the riverboat dropping anchor someplace pretty that Roy knows of, so the little group can swim, picnic, play, and sun themselves... then ride the paddleboat relaxedly back upstream as night falls, with a slightly more formal dinner served on board as they go. The Hetaera also wants to pause long enough to say hello to both Captain George and Chef Theophile, since they've both been so kind to her over the years of her visiting with Roy.

The two men take their leave of the ladies and go to take their tour of the boat. The Mary is of a different configuration than the Goldenrod, and Eacharn is fairly interested in the workings of it. Once they're off by themselves they also relax; when Sulochana isn't there their more primal urges are curbed.

The Mary has been spruced up for the trip, since Roy is quite proud of the riverboat and her heritage. He's still showing off a little bit for the king of St. Louis, wanting to make sure Eacharn feels he's made a good choice in pledging support to Baton Rouge. That's not all that happens, either: once they're alone Eacharn says, "I need to ask something of you, Roy." He pauses and says, "It may be paranoid, but I must ask you to keep my nature a secret. It's not widely known and..." Roy picks up the sentence, "...and it could cause problems if it was. Yeah. I know that feelin'. Why ya think I let folks think it's all the scepter's doin' when I work with the river?"

Sulochana enjoys settling little Mary into her quarters, with Lisbet's and Fantine's help. She lets Fantine fuss over her a bit as well as they're checking 'Chana's room out, then pads out to see folks after the little loogaroo has approved of her lady's tidier -- and, Fantine firmly believes, much more alluring! -appearance. The Hetaera pauses, though, waiting silently for the kings to finish talking to each other. She's a bit perplexed at Eacharn -- did he not believe her when she said Roy wouldn't talk of it? Hmm... that says to her he didn't want her around for this discussion. Very well; she'll wait for them to finish before she walks out to them both. She grins internally -- good thing she nixed the belled anklets Fantine suggested! It had been due to her concern that the incessant movement of the boat would cause a constant chiming, which can get old... but this is a good reason too.

Eacharn says, "A pact, then, to protect one another's secrets." Roy is quiet for a moment, considering whether or not he wants to add anything to that, "Yes. A pact." There's a sound of smacking flesh, as if the two men have clapped hands together; sometimes a really hearty handshake can sound that way. Then Roy says, "I really can't thank you enough for the assistance you've sworn. It'll mean not just my life, but my city's. I'm pretty sure Houston wants Baton Rouge because of the easy crossin'."

That sounds, to Sulochana, as if she's waited long enough; the Hetaera pads silently out of the room and around the corner to find the two kings. "Hello there! Mary's settled in, and Fantine has my things safely in place as well. Will we be casting off soon?"

Eacharn says, "I have to say that I hope he is taught quite a lesson when he tries it. People whisper of him wanting to take over the whole continent. Not, mind you, that I think he can. But he can do a lot of damage trying."

The Hetaera tilts her head curiously at that -- then nods once, "Ah. Houston, I presume." She leans relaxedly against the railing as she watches the two men, a small and pleasant smile on her face, and makes a very firm mental note to talk to a few... friends regarding the upcoming war.

Both men turn at her voice and they both smile at her. Eacharn starts to reach a hand out to her, but Roy steps close first, "Ayeah. Gonna take y'all downriver a bit to a beautiful spot. Little oxbow that's jest almost cut off from the main river."

The Hetaera is graceful at managing people; she steps over to slide an arm about Roy's, and with a smile she offers her free hand to Eacharn. "Sounds lovely, your majesty. King Eacharn, do you do much swimming?" She's not wearing Eacharn's gift from last night, although she was careful to tuck it safely away -- Fantine had thought it quite gorgeous!

Eacharn smirks a little bit and says, "Every time I can, Lady. I thought I'd mentioned that?"

Sulochana shakes her head, smiling faintly, "I don't recall, but my memory could be faulty, your majesty." Eacharn takes her hand but doesn't twine his fingers with hers, making the gesture more social than intimate. She adds, "What do you wear for swimsuits in St. Louis, then? I confess I've not done much swimming as a Hetaera." She doesn't mention, of course, how much tigers enjoy swimming.

Roy says, "Be shocked if he di'n't. 'Sides, this little place we're goin', it's as safe as anywhere on the Big Muddy for swimmin'."

Eacharn smiles ruefully down at Sulochana, "Most of the women wear these ridiculous get-ups that have skirts down to their knees. The men usually wear something like short trousers and a sleeveless undershirt. I usually leave the undershirt part out of things." Of course, he usually swims as a horse.

Sulochana giggles and nudges Roy gently with one shoulder, "See? I told you there were places that had swimsuits for women that would drown a horse if they ever got wet!"

Roy smirks and says, "People're dumb, cherie."

Sulochana laughs at that, then grins at Eacharn, her eyes teasing, "Haven't you done anything to improve the condition of women in St. Louis yet? Gracious, next they'll be required to wear tents to swim -- or to wear corsets and bell skirts to dance!" She grins wickedly up at Roy, quite well aware that is the 'required' attire at Baton Rouge formal balls.

Eacharn chuckles, "If I had my own way, there would be little to nothing required for swimming. But the people are going through somewhat of a conservative phase."

Roy smirks and says, "Yeah. Me too. Balls're one thang, but bein' inna water's something else entirely."

The Hetaera giggles again, "While it wouldn't bother me, I suspect Lisbet would be scandalized should we swim in the all-together -- in front of Mary!" She smiles, gently squeezing Eacharn's hand and Roy's arm, "Well, I'm sure you both have much to discuss. If you'd excuse me, please, I have a few folks I'd like to say hello to! I'll see you all in a bit, all right?" She's silently, internally fascinated to suddenly register: the two kings made a mutually beneficial agreement together while she wasn't there. Could it be they both get along better when she's not around? That'd be a bit of a bummer, but not so much that she's unwilling to stay away somewhat for the good of both cities and both kings.

Once she's gone Roy and Eacharn look at one another speculatively; both of them are wondering if they can get the adults off to swim together without Mary. Finally Roy sighs gustily, "I love my daughter, but I almost wisht she'd stayed home t'day." Eacharn first snorts, then laughs heartily and agrees. After that, the boat gets underway for the trip downstream.

Both Captain George and Chef Theophile are happy to see Sulochana and greet her warmly. Theophile even hugs her and tells her she looks "bettah den dinnah aftah a week a' no food!" Sulochana is delighted to see both men again, thanking them with pleasure for making her feel so welcome. She giggles delightedly at Theophile's greeting, giving him the traditional Baton Rouge kiss on each cheek after their hug. After that the Hetaera strolls relaxedly along the deck, staying out of the way of the two kings and grinning affectionately as Mary rampages excitedly all over the Proud Mary.

The oxbow Roy mentioned is still connected to the main river, but the course runs more swiftly across the neck. The Proud Mary is navigated into the calmer curve and the captain steers his way to a spot close enough to the shore that they can send the little dinghy she carries to the bank with two or three passengers at a time. Sulochana stands at the upper deck's prow with an excited Mary as the big paddleboat drops anchor -- she figures that's the best way to keep them both out of the crew's way. The small girl is already in her swimsuit, eager to get started, which lightens the Hetaera's mood as well. They're both laughing as they skip together, hand in hand, down to the lower deck and over to where the dinghy is being lowered into the river.

Roy and Eacharn both look over as the two females approach, and both men smile at how completely adorable the girl and the woman look together. Mary had insisted her swimsuit match Mama 'Chana's in color, and she has her hair done in a similar braid, though the color and texture are different. Roy calls out, "Well, well, if it ain't the two most beautiful women in m'life!"

Mary squeals delightedly, running ahead to jump eagerly into her beloved papa's arms and babble excitedly about swimming, picnicking, and is she really pretty, really really?! Sulochana laughs with quiet joy shining in her eyes, smiling as she strolls more relaxedly the last few steps to the two men. She gently tousles Mary's hair as she grins affectionately at Roy over the child, "Flattery will get you everywhere, you know, pretty man!" She giggles, then grins teasingly at Eacharn, "I was glad to hear you prefer lighter gear for swimming -- wouldn't want to shock you with the differing mores of Baton Rouge!"

Roy grins and shifts Mary so her weight is on one hip and puts the free arm 'round 'Chana, "Yer both gorgeous."

Eacharn chuckles, watching how easily the three of them act as a family, "I don't agree with everything about my city. I just do my best to make sure things aren't horrible there."

Sulcochana sighs happily as she cuddles against Roy for a moment... then she smiles at Eacharn, "Oh, surely it's not horrible at all there? I've always found St. Louis a lovely and profitable place to visit." She considers, then doesn't add 'friendly' -- since she's aware there are some still-extant prejudices there regarding skin color which she doesn't really agree with. Hm... also some real class snobs too, now she thinks about it. She grins and shrugs slightly to Eacharn, "Do you enjoy your city?"

It takes a few trips to get everyone over onto the bank; the two monarchs wait until the last boat, going with Sulochana and Mary. The Hetaera sticks close to the two kings, staying out of the way of the crew and servants loading the dinghy and rowing over to prepare a comfy spot for them all. Eacharn starts to make the blithe and expected reply, but then says, "I love my people, but I do not always love their ideas or behavior."

Sulochana tilts her head thoughtfully at that, considering for a moment before she nods slowly, "Yes, I can understand that. There is a young man in the caravan who is a hard working and loyal individual... who is only reluctantly losing his religiously inspired beliefs regarding the so-called natural helplessness of women." Ruefully she adds, "For the longest time he kept searching for whomever was Mr. Corbett, and publicly wondered why that individual was hiding from him. He could not believe I was the actual leader, nor that two of my three main managers are female."

She smiles and waves with Mary towards the shore, where Fantine and Lisbet await. The little loogaroo had shyly offered to help with the little girl, and Lisbet had accepted with relief -- energetic children can be hard to keep up with! Softly Sulochana adds, "He also could not understand his courtship of one of the ladies of the caravan being refused. It simply did not occur to him that a woman might not need or want a husband. He is learning, though. I'm proud of him now."

Eacharn doesn't say much to that -- he himself is still a little perplexed as to why his Lady Edana doesn't want to be queen. Roy snorts and says, "I figger anyone's ever had a mama oughta know just how strong women can be."

Sulochana smiles and leans back against Roy as he slides an arm about her slender waist. "I do not always understand the single-male-god religions, I confess... so I do not know how they got that attitude about women." She smiles lazily up at Roy, one restraining hand still hooked in the back of Mary's suit straps as the small girl jigs impatiently to get to shore.

Eacharn says, "Where I grew up there were many gods and goddesses. Anyone that's ever been on a farm ought to know you need females as well as males for life to go on." He snorts derisively, "Hu- people." He stops himself at the last moment, almost having forgotten there are small ears about.

Sulochana grins cheerfully at Eacharn as she finally releases Mary's straps, and the gleeful child nearly throws herself out of the dinghy, squealing excitedly as she splashes to shore. The Hetaera murmurs quietly, "The 'auld' country? Interesting. I am of San Francisco, myself, although one of my matrilineage said she came from the Indias." Roy watches Mary go with a fond smile, glad the girl is learning some control over her Tapping ability -- otherwise it wouldn't be safe for her to be around other people and the river if there was any chance of horseplay.

Mary splashes around with great enthusiasm, calling for the others to come join her in her swimming. The servants have set up a cozy little spot with a light awning to keep off the sun and, behind mosquito netting, a delicious picnic spread out for the enjoyment of the group. Once on shore Sulochana takes a moment to shed some of her outer clothing; she ends up with her light, loose silk tunic over her bathing suit. She grins amusedly at the two kings, both of whom paused in their conversation to watch her with rather wide eyes, and nearly purrs, "How flattering! So, swimming first for us all, or food?"

Eacharn is more startled than Roy, who is mostly watching in wide-eyed interest with a broad smile on his face -- any time 'Chana wants to have on less clothes, he's pretty much OK with it. It's Roy who says, "Swimmin' first, I think. Then food after. Work up an appetite, yeah?"

Sulochana beams, "All right!" and casually pulls off her top -- then giggles in spite of herself at Eacharn's expression. She bolts for the river, cheerfully calling over her shoulder, "Last one in's a rotten egg!"

Both men are startled by the sudden tossing of the shirt and turn to watch her go with frank appreciation. Roy mutters under his breath, "Damn, but I hope that water's cold," which startles Eacharn into laughter before the two men follow at a trot.
