If You Want a Partner

Roy is reluctant to let Sulochana out of his arms, but he does so for the sake of decorum and diplomacy -- and to give Melanie a chance to break the news to him gently that she's staying in town. He looks appropriately disappointed and then wishes her luck and joy with George. He then suggests she might want to urge her fella to release Sulochana from the rest of her contract so the two of them can spend some time alone at the townhouse. He leaves out the part about wanting to have time alone with his own sweetheart. Melanie considers that carefully and after another dance or two with George, he comes to speak with Sulochana, looking a bit dazed and shy.

Suraksha, meanwhile, has quietly let Sna'tha know of the change in plans for the caravan. She knows the various members will be rushing around doing all they can to prepare as much as possible without her, but she also knows she's going to have to go see the barge soon. Wagon placement will be critical, especially with fae on a big steel boat, and they have quite a bit of livestock which will have to squeeze in with Roy's cattle. She pauses, considering... Roy certainly hadn't mentioned anything but negotiations, not purchasing, earlier when he'd just arrived! She wonders amusedly if the roguish king is purchasing cattle just as an excuse for the boat.

Suraksha smiles as she sees Melanie's face, thanking her most recent dance partner and then asking the young girl if she'd like to share a cup of tea? Before Melanie can accept, George asks Sulochana for a dance. Roy actually asks Sna'tha for the pleasure of a turn around the dancefloor as well. The tall sidhe woman laughs softly, her eyes sparkling as she accepts. She moves like liquid mercury when dancing, and 'Chana can hear her amused murmur, "You chose the difficult route; good for you." Sulochana smiles at that, gladly accepting George's hand as she says to Melanie, "Perhaps some tea after this dance, then?"

Melanie smiles, saying she thinks she'll sit this one out. As George leads Sulochana onto the dancefloor he is flushed very, very red, "I have an unorthodox request, my dear." Roy is grinning at Sna'tha and seems quite happy to be dancing with the lovely woman. It can't hurt his reputation to be seen with such a well-known and deadly personage.

Suraksha grins cheerfully at George, gently touching his cheek with a fingertip, "It must be, indeed, for such a flush, dear!" She laughs softly as the flush darkens even more, adding more kindly, "How may I help, George?"

George clears his throat, even his slightly slow intellect catching that she just made a bit of a naughty joke. He ducks his head and says, "Our contract: it runs through tomorrow, yes?"

Suraksha considers, then nods slowly, a hint of worry in her voice -- is something wrong? "It ends tomorrow morning before noon, yes. Is that a problem, George?"

George coughs and says, "Not so much a problem, no... but..." He clears his throat again; this is obviously not something which comes easy to him, "Miss Melanie has given it to me to understand that she would welcome my company this evening. In a... ah... more private setting."

Suraksha is silent for a moment, considering. Her training strongly dictates to always fulfill her contracts. On the other hand, if George would prefer to spend time he's contracted with her, with Melanie instead, she certainly would not wish to prevent him from doing so. She just doesn't really wish to have to return fairly contracted monies, unless her client is indeed dissatisfied with her services. Hmm... she checks delicately to make sure the landlord isn't considering a threesome, although he does not seem the sort, "The two of you would prefer some solitude tonight?"

George clears his throat again and says, "Yes, I believe we would." He hurries to say, "I've been very satisfied with our contract, my dear. I will of course be paying the whole amount we originally agreed upon."

Suraksha's slow smile lights her face, and she murmurs, "You truly are a treasure and a gentleman, George dear." She sighs in quiet relief, then fondly adds, "I shall be delighted to step out of the way for your happiness. Shall I remain for propriety's sake in my room for the night, or would you prefer I clear the premises? Either is quite acceptable to me."

George hesitates over that, face still quite red, "I would not think to turn you out of doors, dear Sulochana. You are of course welcome to stay."

Suraksha smiles and leans to give George a gentle peck on the cheek. "Dear man, I always have a place to stay when my caravan is near." She tilts her head, considering -- it looks like George would like her to depart, but is too courteous to ask her to. She grins, adding briskly, "Oh! I almost forgot -- this will give me some much-needed time to re-arrange the plans for the caravan too!" She looks a bit apologetic, "If you did not mind, George, it would actually be helpful to me to be able to spend the night with my caravan. I would not dream of disappointing you, however...?"

George tries not to look too relieved, but says, "Of course! Of course! Sudden change of plans and all that... I'll even be happy to send some of my retainers with you to make sure you make it back to your people unmolested."

Suraksha thanks George charmingly, and when the dance is finished she shares tea with Melanie, the two women giggling delightedly as they lean together over the delicate china cups, seated at the tables set around the dance floor. 'Chana makes a mental note, with some relief: must also let Sna'tha know of the change in plans yet again! This means Suraksha might be able to get the caravan together soon enough that they'll be able to ride on the boat to Baton Rouge. She makes another mental note: must talk to Roy next. She needs to know how big the boat is, when he's leaving, and a few other important bits of information as well.

Suraksha smiles as Melanie is soon swept away by a beaming George, then settles back and mentally works on logistics. She waves discreetly at her godsmother while the Lady Sna'tha is dancing with Roy, so the sidhe woman will hopefully return to this table with him. The Hetaera also makes sure there's tea there for all of them. Sna'thaid is looking quite amused as Melanie floats off with George for another dance. Roy is dancing with the bride, being his charming self. The slender sidhe settles next to 'Chana in what had been Melanie's chair, and sips the tea 'Chana pours for her. She murmurs to her godsdaughter, "Your suitor has been rather busy tonight."

Suraksha raises a very amused eyebrow at Sna'tha, her delicate looking fingers curled about the little cup. "Has he now. Dare I ask?"

Sna'thaid mms and smiles into her tea, "He's been busy trying to charm me into doing your work for you. I believe he has taken rather a lot of trouble to free you up for the evening." She seems quite amused by Roy's maneuvering and her eyes, glamoured to look human, twinkle as she says, "I hope he's not easily disappointed."

Suraksha gives a quiet and almost lady-like snort of amusement, "Oh, dear. I wondered at Melanie's sudden, er... enthusiasm." She chuckles quietly, considering... then smiles at Sna'tha, "Well, I have work to do with the caravan, and I know you'll likely be starting immediately with him. Would you like to have the training be in aiding us get the caravan ready?" A bit wistfully she adds, "I know he'll likely be too exhausted for lovemaking, but I certainly wouldn't mind letting him spend the night in my wagon." She grins mischievously over her tea, adding, "Even if he is likely a bit longer than my little folding bed!"

Sna'thaid laughs her warm and delicate laugh, the buzzing in her voice disguised for this situation, "I believe he was planning on taking you back to his little boat. Let us give him a lesson, shall we, in what life on the caravan is like?"

Suraksha grins with wicked delight at her godsmother, "Oh, yes, please -- let's!" She laughs, her head tossing back with easy pleasure... then smiles more demurely as she adds, "...because, as he once noted, he comes with a city... but I come with a family."

Sna'thaid seems to find that quite amusing. "Let's not spoil his evening just yet, hm?" She finishes her tea and moves to stand, "I'll go and let our people know to get ready to move in the morning."

Suraksha adds more softly, and with a hint of tightly controlled worry, "And if he's still there and still interested, the next day... then I will know it is I, not the Hetaera, in whom he is truly interested." She lifts her head and smiles up at the sidhe woman, nodding quietly. Then she takes a deep breath, finishing her own tea as well. Her gaze drifts as she searches for Roy; she rather understands his desire, when he was not sure if she would leave him, to make sure their time together was very pleasant. Right now she very much wishes to savor dancing with him -- and hopefully encourage him to stay.

Sna'thaid smiles again, eyes still amused, "Yes, we will, godsdaughter." She is gone, then. Suraksha rolls her eyes in silent amusement. She loves her godsmother, but there are times she's keenly aware Sna'thaid seems to find her more amusing than not -- and to know what's going to happen before Sura does.

Roy comes to Sulochana's table and settles into the chair across from her, grinning broadly, "I hear tell that you may be free for the night, ma'am."

Sulochana blinks a bit startledly at Roy, re-focusing -- and smiling in spite of herself, "You did? Who said that, please?" She grins quietly, adding with shy pleasure, "I would really love to dance more with you, Roy, if you wished?"

Roy stands and offers her his hand, "Darlin', I'll dance every single dance left with ya if ya wanna." His pupils are a little dilated, "Well, perhaps not free, but that you were no longer under obligation to stay with the dear Sir George."

Suraksha laughs softly, rising and gladly taking Roy's hand. She swirls gracefully to his side when he draws her close, and says nothing until they have danced for several heartbeats. Her upturned face is blissful, eyes half closed... until finally her lips curve up at the edges and she murmurs, "Naughty man. Please don't meddle with my contracts so again? I understand why you did it -- I even sympathize -- but contracts and reputations are tricky things for Hetaera."

Roy says, "Darlin', I promise you that I won't meddle in any more of 'em, but I think ever'body's happier the way this turned out." His eyes haven't left her face since the dance started, "Did you wanna come down an' see the barge? It's docked near my Proud Mary."

Suraksha nods firmly, her eyes opening and her face shifting into a more business-like cast, "Yes, please. I'll need to know quite a few things about the ship before we can load up. You are planning on departing tomorrow at some point? Or will it be with the dawn and the tide on the next day?" She pauses, then adds curiously, "What made you decide to purchase cattle here? I thought you were here just for the negotiations?" She is not precisely sure how Sna'tha wishes to break her news to Roy, so she does not mention anything of the sidhe woman's possible plans.

Roy smiles wryly and says, "This is true. I came up with the idea of just negotiatin'. Then I stuck m' foot in m'mouth alla way up t' the knee wi' Geraldine. I plan on keepin' the agreements I got with 'er, but she can be a little vindictive. I'd rather have what I need on hand."

Suraksha nods thoughtfully, unwittingly patting Roy reassuringly on the shoulder, "That seems a good plan." She pauses, then curiously asks, "What happened with her? It must have been late last night... she seemed happy to walk up to you when, uh-" She goes silent, suddenly very unwilling to repeat that painful moment. She takes a breath, then says softly, "Last night, yes."

Roy smiles wryly and gently strokes a finger down the side of Sulochana's face, "Yeah. She was happy t' walk up to me an' say I needed a real woman an' not you. And I tole her she wa'n't even fit t' say yer name. She's a mite miffed with me."

Suraksha catches her breath for a moment, body stiffening with shock -- and then the music and the dance move her and she continues to sway with Roy. Her eyes close, pain on her face as she simply trusts her partner to lead her for a few steps, and she lowers her head, hiding her face. Roy is a good partner and he leads her through the dance, supporting her as the pain works through her. His face is tender as he looks down at her, letting her have the time she needs even though his heart is aching. He has to work not to start babbling apologies again.

Suraksha's voice trembles as she murmurs, "I... I do not understand some people! Why do they enjoy hurting others so?" Her golden-green eyes open again, although she's staring only at Roy's chest, and she sighs softly. "Ah, well. We do get trained in how to cope with the jealous. I just never quite grasped the concept, I'm afraid." She's silent a moment -- then she looks worriedly up at Roy, "You were jealous of George, dear, weren't you? Is my being a Hetaera going to be an continuing issue for you?"

Roy shakes his head and says, "I don't think it's gonna, cherie. I was showin' my ass 'cause I wa'n't sure o' myself. I know where I stand now." He smiles at her and touches a fingertip to the center of her chest, just over where her cleavage begins, "I stand in here. Don' matter who's in yer bed."

Suraksha's worry and pain fades slowly away at that, her face smoothing out into quietly calm happiness. For a moment she starts to lift onto her tiptoes for a kiss -- and then she remembers she can't do that quite yet. Instead she smiles up at Roy, trying to pour all her warmth and affectionate caring and tentative love for the man into her eyes, to share with him. Her voice is soft and heartfelt, "Thank you."

Roy shakes his head, "Naw, cherie. Thank you." After that he concentrates on making sure she enjoys the dancing.

The dancing at the wedding goes on for quite a while and Roy sticks right with Suraksha, letting George and Melanie enjoy one another's company. The king can't quite seem to keep his eyes off his partner's face or his fingertips from brushing her skin. Other than that, he is as gentlemanly as he can manage.

Suraksha is having a wonderful time as well. She does check periodically on George and Melanie, not wishing to either cause a scandal or to abuse George's kindness while they're contracted. She is, of course, courteous when asked by others to dance. She's a Hetaera; it's pretty much second nature for her to be appealing and beautiful... but past that she is perfectly happy to dance with Roy. Drifting relaxedly about the dance floor, feeling warm and tingly inside at her lovely partner's arms about her, enjoying the beauty of the waning day... she finally whispers softly to Roy, "This is quite possibly the nicest wedding I have ever attended! Thank you so much, dear, for all the marvelous dancing."

Roy smiles down at her and rests his cheek on the top of her head briefly, "You're welcome, cherie. I'm glad I did my schmoozin' earlier." Guests are starting to filter away, some of them stopping to bid adieu to Roy or to Suraksha on their way out. The Hetaera smiles and graciously speaks with those pausing to talk to Roy; she also makes sure she's near George and Melanie at that point, in case either of them need her. She doesn't really expect anyone pausing to talk with her specifically, however, unless it's another potential client.

Suraksha adds softly to Roy, between people and during a dance, "I shall need to return to Sir George's place to collect my belongings, then take Amanda back to the caravan. He has offered some servitors to make sure I meet with no difficulties." She grins a bit teasingly as she adds, "Amanda is my camel."

George and Melanie drift up themselves eventually and George lets Suraksha and Roy know he and Melanie were discussing departing. Since they each came with another partner, would Roy and Sulochana also like to leave? Or should George and Melanie stay? Sulochana smiles, "Oh, let us all depart together, shall we? I would not wish to give the gossips any cause for more tongue-wagging!" She giggles at Melanie's pleased flush, taking the girl's hand, "Shall we go now?" She cheerfully adds to George, "It was my thought to pack up before dinner. If you need me for then I am, of course, happy to stay. Otherwise I'll likely head on out?"

Melanie beams in a shyly pleased sort of way, and the gentlemen fall back slightly and let the ladies take the lead. George says, "Sulochana, my dear, take all the time you feel you need, but please don't feel obligated to stay. I understand you will wish to make arrangements for your changed plans."

Suraksha gives George a hug, thanking him for being such a sweetheart, and assuring him she expects no trouble at all while riding back to the caravan. She gets the foursome headed for the hosts to say their goodbyes, whispering with Melanie to make arrangements: the girl is quite welcome to ride in the barouche! 'Chana makes a mental note to walk near Roy's rental carriage horses to see if they spook at her or not -- if not, she's happy to ride with the king.

The hosts are all just a little happily tipsy on champagne and the joy of the occasion and are ebullient in their goodbyes. Roy and George escort out 'Chana and Melanie, each man walking with the woman he brought. Outside, however, they switch partners; the king and the Hetaera walk the landlord and the lady to their barouche, passing Roy's hired carriage along the way. The carriage horses shift a little as 'Chana passes, but do not startle. They are, after all, used to all sorts of strange things in such a large city.

Suraksha is quietly relieved, and gently inquires of George as to whether he would enjoy a ride with Miss Melanie? If he were to take a spin around the park, perhaps, 'Chana might even be completely packed up and departed! She smiles, adding that she'd like to make her fond goodbyes now, if so -- and would his majesty be willing to offer her a ride back to Sir George's apartment, please?

George hesitates, but it's quite clear by the way he glances at Melanie that he would indeed enjoy that. Finally he says, "I would very much enjoy spending time with Miss Melanie, if his majesty is not averse...?"

Roy grins, "Be good to 'er, George. 'S all I ask." He turns to Melanie and takes her hand, kissing it with a warm smile, "Thank you for puttin' up with me, darlin'."

Suraksha gives Melanie a warm hug and whispers with a mischievous grin, "Promise me, please, if you marry dear George that you'll both invite me to the wedding?"

Melanie whispers back, cheeks rosy, "Of course I will! Both of you." She didn't manage to catch the bouquet, but she seems to feel she caught something better. George is looking proud as a peacock to be helping the lovely belle into his barouche for the ride back to his townhouse.

Suraksha laughs fondly again -- she can't help it -- as she watches the two of them depart. Once they've left she looks up at Roy and smiles, "You never said: may I have a lift to Sir George's from you? I do need to pack up and return to the caravan." She wonders amusedly just when Sna'tha will drop in with her likely-unwelcome news for Roy. The thought makes her grin.

Roy smiles down at her and offers a hand up into the rented carriage, "Of course, cherie. I ain't gonna leave ya stranded."

Suraksha sighs happily and slips gracefully into the carriage. "Thank you, dear!" Curiously she adds, "Do you have a change of clothes handy?" She's quietly relieved the mayor of Kansas City did not approach them today.

Roy climbs in after her and the driver sets off for George's townhouse. He chuckles, "Not on me, no. Back at the boat, though." He moves and not-very-subtly pulls down the privacy shade between the driver and the passenger compartment on the enclosed carriage. Suraksha laughs softly as she watches Roy, then smiles and pats the bench seat next to her in silent invitation. She knows it's only a short trip, and she's going to be frantically busy after this for perhaps a day or two. Taking this moment for a few kisses sounds absolutely delightful to her -- she deserves a small reward for how well she's done, she cheerfully decides! Roy is more than happy to slide across the seat and wrap his arms around her for a few kisses. He nuzzles against the side of her neck, murmuring, "Somethin' about stealin' smooches in public feels awful nice..."

Suraksha laughs softly again, gladly wrapping her arms about his neck and letting him draw her onto his lap. She murmurs, "This is hardly public... but I certainly agree with now being a good time for smooches!" Roy laughs and doesn't waste a moment of the rest of the ride. It's crystal clear, in several ways, that he is quite happy to have a lapful of Suraksha. Suraksha is very, very happy to be there in Roy's lap as well, and while her physical reactions are not quite so... striking as Roy's, her normally slightly musky scent warms and intensifies. Roy knowing she can shapeshift into a tiger helps explain that deliciously feral scent; her knowing she's loved increases it.

Suraksha is a bit startled, in fact, at the intensity of her feelings currently. Since graduating as a Hetaera she's never been with a lover where she was actually in love herself as well. Oh, she's been with lovers who loved her, and she always brings her passion to her clients -- she feels it would be cheating them otherwise -- but this time... this time feels subtly different, and she's not sure why. She is, in fact, having a bit of trouble thinking clearly, and hasn't yet registered that it's the realization that she does not have to manage the relationship for the pleasure of another which is making her feel so different -- so free, so passionate. By the end of the short drive to George's townhouse, Roy's breathing and heartbeat have both sped up considerably, and his pupils are completely dilated even in the dimness of the carriage. His lips are warm on her earlobe as he murmurs, "You are th' most amazin' thing..."

Suraksha growls softly, squirming a bit closer in Roy's lap -- then jumps slightly, her head whipping around as the driver knocks politely on the back of his seat so the noise echoes lightly in the carriage proper. She laughs breathlessly, murmuring, "You are making it hard to think straight!" She rises, just able to stand in the carriage, and hastily pats her skirts back into place as she calls politely, "One moment, please!" She checks her hair quickly, then smiles at Roy, her eyes shining lambent gold in the dim light, "Mmm... I had better leave, or I won't!" She laughs softly, leaning to open the door.

Roy grins and scoops an arm around her waist, pulling her back into his lap for another long, luscious kiss, murmuring, "One minute longer won' hurt..." He's starting to get serious about the kiss when the carriage door opens and Sna'thaid says cheerfully, "Good! You're back! It's going to take us hours to get everything settled for the trip downriver!"

Suraksha jumps slightly, then laughs ruefully. She glances over her shoulder and murmurs, "Hello, godsmother. Your timing is, as always, spectacular." She giggles, rising again and patting Roy's shoulder, "Come by the caravan later, if you wish?"

Roy gives Sna'thaid A Look which clearly says he could have done without her appearance. He does, however, let Sulochana out of his lap, "I was sorta hopin' you'd be comin' by the Proud Mary."

Suraksha can't help giggling at Roy's Look! She grins as she steps down lightly from the carriage, turning to speak to Roy, "Oh, I shall. I need you or one of your men to show me the barge, so I can get measurements and Del can inspect the hold. But first I need to vacate dear Sir George's townhouse and return to the caravan, to see how things are going." She considers a moment, then smiles, "Would you like to come with us?"

Sna'thaid smiles just a tad too brightly, eyes dancing with amusement, "Ahh, but it's going to be several hours before we can come by to negotiate my full contract, Your Majesty -- and I'm sure your guards will want to discuss logistics with you. Jacko has already assured me the two of you will be quite happy to assist with some of the breaking-down of the caravan for travel."

Suraksha blinks at Sna'thaid -- then bounces delightedly on her toes, "Oh, excellent!" She beams at Roy, "Thank you so much, R- your majesty! Every hand is greatly appreciated when we're in a rush to get moving!"

Roy is looking gobsmacked -- then wry, one brow going up, "You coulda mentioned this when I was talkin' with you at the reception, m'lady. I thought you were gonna work that out for mah cherie."

Suraksha looks curious, "Work what out?" then abruptly realizes they're wasting time, "Wait -- I can hear about this later. Right now I must pack and not embarrass dear George and Melanie!" She waves to Roy in the carriage, gives her godsmother a light peck on the cheek and murmurs, "See you soon, Sna'tha," and then patters lightly up the stairs. Roy isn't quite glaring at Sna'tha -- he doesn't quite dare -- but it's obvious he is starting to realize all his careful finagling has been blocked by the sidhe woman.

Suraksha grins mischievously to herself as she slips indoors -- she's abandoned poor Roy to the tender mercies of her godsmother, and Roy may never recover! She laughs softly to herself, smiling and greeting George's slightly confused servants with a quick explanation, then heading swiftly on up the stairs with one of the maids, who has cheerfully volunteered to help her pack quickly. Frankly, 'Chana thinks, Sna'tha will likely be good for Roy -- she certainly was for her godsdaughter!

Shortly thereafter 'Chana is comfortably dressed in loose silken trousers and tunic, and she and two servants are swiftly tacking up Amanda, the camel, and loading 'Chana's duffel bags onto the decorated saddle. When one of the servants, left to keep watch, comes flying into the stable to warn them the barouche is approaching, 'Chana laughs and hastily finishes packing the camel with one of the maids, sending everyone else to go greet the landlord and his lady guest at the front. It only takes a little bit more effort, and then the Hetaera is ready to go. She gives the servant girl a quick thanks and a small tip, then mounts up and is soon pacing swiftly out the back way. She waves goodbye, then turns and sets her face forward with a happy sigh. Onwards! Back to the caravan... and perhaps to a wonderful new page in the book of her life! She smiles in quiet pleasure, wondering if Roy is actually in love with her. Wouldn't it be wonderful if he was?

Suraksha arrives at the caravan soon thereafter -- she has no trouble in the celebrating city, nor did she expect any. She's greeted enthusiastically, as always, and laughingly returns hugs and well-wishings. Amanda is swiftly handed off to one of Del's assistants, while the girl who usually helps 'Chana hefts the duffels into Suraksha's wagon for unpacking and careful storage of the delicate materials. 'Chana herself slips into the wagon and does a quick change into her working clothes, emerging in sturdy denim pants, soft high boots, and a warm raw silk shirt under a rough cotton tunic. She's sans jewelry and hastily plaiting her formerly elegantly styled hair into a long, simple braid as she comes striding out of the wagon.

As expected, Ohkwari and Sna'tha's second are waiting for Sura, and they immediately start briefing her on what cargo the caravan currently has, which contracts were picked up and completed, which wagons and/or livestock had to be sold or traded for, who wished to travel with the caravan down to Baton Rouge... all the minutiae of running a working caravan. Suraksha is back in her chosen element: her body language changes to swift, precise moves and her language gets crisp and concise. She always has a hug for those who need it, but she also moves quickly and assuredly through the controlled chaos swirling around her.

Sna'tha sends one of the pages to let Suraksha know she and the king are going back to the Proud Mary to get Jacko. They'll be arriving at the caravan a bit afterward. It's not until Suraksha comes by to check on Del and the various oxen and horses used for pulling the caravan that she sees what Sna'tha has done with Roy. The king is dressed in jeans and well-worn cowboy boots with a denim workshirt, and his hair is tied back with a thong. He's talking with Del about the dray horses used to pull some of the heavier vehicles, when even the oxen won't do.

Suraksha pauses in the midst of the pack of children and large dogs she's walking with, and they go bounding happily past her as she looks at Roy and smiles quietly to herself. Alg looks up curiously at Sura, then chuckles and follows the dogs. Ohkwari pauses as well, smiling fondly down at his diminutive partner, then follows her as she heads for Del. She grins up at the huge man, murmuring, "Sorry -- just looked really nice there for a moment!" He chuckles, rumbling, "Not my type, but good! So, you need me at the barge too?"

Roy is looking serious and thoughtful as he runs his hands along the horses' backs and legs, checking feet for loose shoes and lodged stones. He's muttering quietly to both himself and the horses as he does so, quite caught-up in the tasks Del has given him. The Sileni sees Suraksha coming and moves to meet her halfway. Suraksha smiles and murmurs quietly to Del, "You ready to go visit the barge? We're likely to need either Roy or Jacko, so the captain lets us roam the boat freely."

Del nods and says, "We're going to have an interesting time of it, I think. The barge his majesty has hired is used to carrying livestock, but not horses. We'll probably have to knock together some stalls, especially for Fionn and MacCumaill." She's speaking of the two very large horses used to pull the heaviest of the wagons, which is sometimes used to carry precious cargo.

Suraksha frowns with a bit of concern -- she knows horses do not do well in choppy waters -- but as usual her commentary is straightforward. "Right. Well, let's go see what we have to work with. If it's not big and solid enough for no chop, we're going to have to walk, like usual." She raises her voice, calling, "Roy? We're going to check the barge. You want to come, or send Jacko?" She adds to Del, "Ohkwari's got one of our flatbeds empty and ready to carry us, and to measure with. Who can you spare to draw it? Want to use the big boys?"

Roy straightens up and turns around at the familiar voice. He's only heard that particular tone once, and that was when she was deploying her people for the assault on Moynahan's stronghold. The king looks both surprised and pleased at what he sees. Del nods and calls, "Your Majesty, can you bring the Clydesdales, please?"

Roy takes the bridles of the two big horses and starts leading them over, calling back, "Del, sugar, if you're gonna be orderin' me around, you may's well call me Roy." He walks like he's comfortable in the jeans and boots, and the jeans fit like they were made to be a second skin -- snug enough to keep from getting caught in anything, but not so tight as to be cumbersome.

Suraksha laughs, inordinately pleased that Roy is willing to be informal. She beams at him, falling in next to him as they head for the flatbed. As the two easy-going horses are hitched up, Roy sees a little of what caravan life is like for Suraksha -- and who she is here: in the time it takes for everyone to prep, Sura works out a logistics issue with Ohkwari, signs off on Buddy's food purchases, doublechecks a spreadsheet for Sna'tha, rescues and comforts a crying child that one of the dogs is too exuberant with, gives her handmaiden a hug of thanks for taking care of her dresses, points Daniel in the right direction for a message to be delivered, and congratulates the troupe of entertainers on their hard work such that they walk away beaming.

Roy watches all of this while staying unusually -- for him -- quiet. He's good with the horses, helping get them hitched up and checking over their harnesses and rigging for any problems. After that he climbs up onto the flatbed, not wanting to interrupt Suraksha in her business. Shortly thereafter Suraksha sighs happily as Del calls, "All aboard!" The Sileni is seated in the driver's seat, reins in hands, and the big draft horses lean eagerly into the harness -- when the flatbed is unloaded it's easy for them to draw. Ohkwari puts his hands under Sura's arms, swinging her easily up towards Roy on the moving flatbed as she gives a startled squeak, then laughs. The king grins at the big man and grabs hold of her, lifting her the rest of the way up to settle on the big flatbed wagon.

Suraksha bounces lightly on her toes as Roy lifts her in and sets her down. Her eyes are shining and her hair is already a bit windblown, hands resting lightly on Roy's strong chest. She grins, "Having fun?" as Ohkwari causes the flatbed to creak and jounce a bit as he swings himself aboard.

Roy grins down at her and slides the hands that were resting on her waist around her so he can pull her against his stomach, "Cherie, you have never looked so delicious as you do right now..." He pauses for a moment, "Well, not when you've had your clothes on." The last is said in a low, playful voice and he dips his head to kiss her. Suraksha blinks startledly -- then laughs in muffled delight against Roy's lips! She's happy to wrap her arms about his neck and gladly return the kiss. Roy may rapidly realize there are benefits to a supernaturally agile lover: she sways easily with the jouncing of the big, heavy flatbed, without staggering or falling. Suraksha herself is utterly charmed -- he likes her! He really likes her like this! Ohkwari quietly slides into the driver's bench next to Del, the two of them sharing a very amused glance as their caravan boss is... busy behind them.

Roy himself does stagger a bit and laughs, catching his breath as he breaks the kiss, "Mebbe we oughta sit down, cherie." His accent has thickened a little bit, as if he's taken off the king mask and doesn't have to hide behind it. Suraksha giggles and flops almost bonelessly down to settle cross-legged in the center of the flatbed. She grins mischievously up at him, patting the scarred wood next to her with the same gesture she used while elegantly dressed in the carriage. Roy settles down with as much grace as a mostly-normal human could be expected to have on the jouncing flatbed, planting himself next to Suraksha and scooping her up to sit in his lap again, grinning. "I only got one complaint."

Suraksha laughs and wriggles cheerfully into Roy's lap, leaning back in his arms enough that she can see his face, "Mmm?"

Roy's lips are right next to her ear and his arms are wrapped comfortably around her, "That damn shirt's too long f'r me t'see how nice your behind looks in jeans. I bet it is a sight." She can feel his grin as he kisses the side of her neck.

Suraksha laughs delightedly again, throwing her arms about Roy's neck and sighing happily. Her voice is soft as she murmurs teasingly, "Guess a hand could be slipped under it... long as it's done sneakily!" She grins at him and adds, "Ask nice and I'll tuck it in!"

Roy chuckles and slides one hand down along her back and then back under her tunic to fit around the curve of her rear, "Mmm... tempting... but if you leave it out, I can do this more easily."

Suraksha giggles -- then looks up a bit startledly as two more people join them. Sna'tha drops onto the flatbed from a tree above, with a buzzing of wings -- while Alg leaps up high over the edge of the flatbed, landing with a scrabbly thump of claws. The goblin cackles delightedly, scurrying to settle under the driver's bench. He watches Roy and Suraksha with slightly glowing eyes in the growing twilight, his jagged teeth bared in what Sura knows is pleasure, "Pretty lady need Alg! King here." He nods, curling up relaxedly, and Sna'tha chuckles, stretching out at full length at the lower end of the long, use-scarred timbers that make up the flatbed. She's practically wrapped in leather, from booted toes to breeches and hooded tunic, to long gloves. She folds one set of arms behind her head, and the other over her stomach.

Suraksha blinks -- then laughs and turns back to subtly wriggle her rear in Roy's hand. Her eyes are dancing with mischief, "Works for me!"

Roy smirks, one arm still wrapped loosely and comfortably around Suraksha's middle. He arches a brow at Alg and asks, "You think I'm gonna hurt 'er, Alg?" He's resting his chin on 'Chana's shoulder and his fingers are not quite tickling.

The goblin shakes his head, then blinks slowly as he fluffs up a bit under the driver's bench. He sounds almost sleepily content as he adds, "Alg always with lady, with king."

Suraksha laughs, smiling at Alg as she checks, "You mean every time I visit Roy I take you along -- yes, Alg? So now that we're visiting, you should be here this time as well?" The small man grunts in agreement, his big eyes closing completely.

Roy snorts, "Y'know, that's pretty much correct." He kisses the side of 'Chana's neck, grinning, then shifts her in his lap, making a warmly contented sound at the way she fits. Suraksha puurs relaxedly, quite happy to cuddle close and figure out as many ways as possible to be comfortable in her lover's lap.

Sna'tha chuckles, her fluting-buzzing voice lazy, "And I'm here as the experimental subject. Completely on another topic, Roy, you might wish to use a different name while working in the caravan, like Jyotsana does: Suraksha here and Sulochana when performing as an Hetaera. It would not be helpful for the caravan to become associated with a place from which to snatch royalty, after all."

Roy arches a brow and says, "What sorta experiment are we talkin' 'bout?" His breathing is very deep and easy and he's warm and solid under Suraksha, creating a comfortable and safe perch for the woman. "As for the name," he grins, "just call me Gator."

Suraksha giggles, lazily running her fingers through his hair, "Thought it was Rattler?" Sna'tha murmurs relaxedly, "Checking to see if the boat's too much cold iron for fae. I'll see how it is inside, and on top. That will determine if we can ride. I'm guessing the decks will be all right, with thick boots and perhaps a small wooden deck or thick blankets on the surface."

Roy chuckles and says, "It was. You like snakes better'n gators, sugar?" He smiles at Sna'tha, "It's mostly wooden, actually. Figured if I was gonna try'n put ya'll on it, iron'd be a bad idea."

That comment draws everyone's attention! There are several smiles, and a nod of approval from Ohkwari, but it's Suraksha whose eyes are shining delightedly as she asks, "You picked a wooden barge for us?!" She laughs, swiveling around in Roy's lap to hug him tightly -- she even wraps her legs around his waist. "Thank you! Thank you so much!" Ohkwari nods approvingly again as he turns to face forward, while Del pats Roy's shoulder before doing so as well. Sna'tha smiles and murmurs quietly, "Well done!"

Roy chuckles and says, "I've worked with sidhe before. Besides, I trust wood better'n steel for boats, anyways. More natural."

Suraksha laughs delightedly again. It takes her a moment to remember the second question -- she's busy happily nuzzling against Roy's throat and ears, peppering the more delicate skin with ticklishly light kisses -- and then she simply smiles against his cheek, murmuring, "Snakes, yes -- could say that!" She laughs softly, then goes back to lightly nibbling and licking Roy's skin.

Roy grins and settles both hands on her rump, since she's sitting in a way that makes it almost impossible for him to resist doing so. His voice is a little rough around the edges as he says, "Rattler it is, then." The king finds he's rather enjoying being both incognito and amongst people who know him.

Suraksha purrs lazily against Roy's skin, mumbling something that might be agreement -- and might just as easily be a request for him to hug tighter! She laughs softly and does her best to keep Roy distracted until they arrive at the docks. When Del coughs and rather loudly says, "Gosh, Ohkwa, any idea which barge it is?" Sura laughs and reluctantly disengages. She murmurs softly to Roy, "Mmm, you taste wonderful!" before slithering gracefully out of his lap.

Roy watches her go with a grin that says he is rather looking forward to the ride back. He slides off the side of the flatbed and reaches up to help her down, "It should be berthed right with the Mary. Got Alan supervisin'."

Suraksha casually tucks in her shirt (as per Roy's rather sweet request), then stands up on the flatbed behind the drivers to look at the barge in question. She brightens, "Oh, excellent!" then turns and trots over to where Roy is standing. She looks down at him with a grin, waiting for her and holding up his arms, and jumps fearlessly down to him. Del draws the big, eager Clydesdales to a halt, and Sna'tha has already slid fluidly off the side of the flatbed. Alg bounds down and heads for the barge without hesitation, clattering noisily along the gangplank as Ohkwari hails the barge.

Roy laughs and wraps his arms around her as she leaps into them, "Now, let's us go inspect the barge, yeah?" The barge is in excellent repair but it is missing stalls, as Del mentioned. There is room for the wagons on deck, though the logistics will be a bit tricky for some of the bigger vehicles. Roy says, "They 'pparently sometimes do ferry work, so they're good with havin' the vehicles on-board."

Suraksha nods thoughtfully as she waves the big flatbed right onto the barge's deck, after clearing it with the captain. She leaves the measurements to Ohkwari, instead surreptitiously watching the barge's crew -- to see how they respond to the clearly non-human Sna'tha and the gleefully exploring Alg. Roy strolls along with them, nodding to Alan, who is speaking with the captain of the barge. The bodyguard glances over at Roy and nods to him before turning back to his work without greeting his monarch. Suraksha walks briskly over to the captain to hear what's being said. If there's going to be trouble on the trip with supernaturals, she'd rather know now. Her body language is quite different from Sulochana's -- she moves like she's in command, and stands with the calm attentiveness of the person in charge. She nods and smiles, "Alan," then looks at the captain, "Suraksha Sesha, pleasure to meetcha. You the captain?" She offers her hand to shake; her grip is firm and she meets the man's eyes directly, without equivocation.

The captain shakes her hand and says, "Ayup. 'S my boat. Pleasure's mine, ma'am. Alan here was tellin' me you got a passel of wagons. I got chain and rope to secure at least a dozen. After that, yer on yer own." He turns his head and spits over the side of the barge, "Guy that's payin' for this is spendin' enough that I ain't worried whatcha bring on board." His eyes move over the exploring Alg and he says, "That'n ain't gonna tear stuff up, issee? I had a goblin on once, near-bout scuttled us."

Alg gallops about without supervision, swinging gleefully all around any rigging both on the deck and belowdecks. Del goes below with Sna'tha, who emerges shortly thereafter and helps Ohkwari with the measuring. Suraksha laughs, shaking her head, "No, Alg is a good man. The only thing he's destructive of is people attacking us." She chats a bit with the captain and Alan, making nice as her companions get Roy to help them with all the checking they need to do.

Roy seems happy to let Alan take care of the details, and the captain shows no sign of recognizing him. The old man introduces himself as Aloysius, "But you c'n call me Cap'n Al. You got anybody else I should know about? We ain't got as much steel as some vessels this size, but there's chains and anchors and such."

Suraksha nods thoughtfully, looking around, "Could you give us a tour of belowdecks? I have one of my people there checking it already, since we have quite a bit of livestock, but I'd like to see what you have planned." She adds to Alan, as they turn towards the hatchway, "Do you know how many head of cattle the king has?" Alan gives her a number. It's a bit large -- large enough that Roy will almost have to create a ranch or farm for them. This isn't just a few head for slaughter; it's a herd. Suraksha blinks at that, then murmurs amusedly, "Oh, yeah, we're going to have to pack 'em tight." She grins adding, "C'mon, let's go tell Del how many she has to work with." She slides fluidly down the ladder, then turns, calling, "Hey, Del! We've got quite a herd coming," and shares the herd's size with her partner.

Roy himself has disappeared belowdecks. The captain says, "Sure I can, ma'am. C'mon along." He moves with the ease of a man that's more used to being on-board a boat than on solid ground. As he walks, he gives them the stats of the barge. He seems quite proud of his boat and points out the best place to put up temporary stalls for the creatures that need it. He also points out the way the floor in the hold is made to let animal wastes pass through without harming the creatures' feet.

Suraksha is clearly impressed with that, and she grins at Del, who is happily stomping around and giving the belowdecks her approval. Sura smiles at the captain, "Fantastic design -- thank you!" She glances around to see how the others feel so far. She tends to fade back a bit when one of her caravan partners would be more effective talking with the captain -- in this case, Del.

Everyone seems to be quite pleased with the vehicle. Roy has either gotten very lucky or he's done a lot of research -- or had someone do it for him. Del and Ohkwari are both quite pleased with the set-up, and Alg seems to be having a ball. There are lots of places for the goblin-man to hide. Even Sna'tha has to admit the barge is a sound vessel. Roy himself is staying on the edges of things, listening to the captain discuss things with Del. The captain is showing her how they can set up a fence across part of the hold to separate Roy's cattle from the caravan's animals if Del wishes.

Suraksha beams at her companions, well pleased with all the approval she's seeing. She slides over next to Roy, smiling up at him and murmuring, "Fantastic boat! Did real good; thank you. Did you talk to one of mine on what we needed?"

Roy says, "Talk? Not so much... I, ah, used some information I gathered. I knew you had some sidhe." He shrugs, trying not to look smug. He's not good at it.

Suraksha pats one of the Clydesdales they'd driven aboard to check structural integrity, and giggles at Roy! Her voice stays low, although her eyes are dancing, "You look smug -- but in this case, think you earned it!" She laughs softly, giving Roy a quick hug while Captain Al is looking elsewhere... then adds, "We can go now -- Del looks satisfied. Bring the boys, please?" She paces over to smile at her companions, "We're good, yeah?"

Roy grins and goes to get the horses, talking quietly to them as he takes their bridles and starts to lead them back up on deck, "Hey, boss-lady, we takin' the wagon back or leavin' it here?"

Suraksha calls over her shoulder, "Back. Ohkwa had to unload it to measure; we'll pack it up again tonight while we're loading the other wagons." She shakes hands with Captain Al, double-checking that they're leaving with the tide after dawn -- that will give them all night to move the caravan aboard. She glances at her companions, "Anyone need to stay, or we all heading back for the moving?"

Alan says, "I think we're all good. The cattle are on the way to be loaded now. You need to have them separated from your stock, ma'am?" His face doesn't so much as twitch to betray Roy.

Suraksha nods to Alan, "Yep." She waves a hand towards the Sileni, adding, "Del knows how she wants things for our stock -- she's the one to talk to on that. We'll be bringing in our wagons in an hour or three. You be all loaded by then? King need anything from us before we load?"

Del moves to talk with Alan and the two of them agree to bring Del back to the caravan once they've hashed it all out. The bodyguard says, "He said to let you know that there's several staterooms on the Proud Mary for those that might be better off over there."

Suraksha smiles at how thoughtful that is -- then gets a wicked grin. She smooths her face out into a smile again, adding, "I'll let folks know, but doubt many will be interested. Kings do tend to put on airs, after all." She looks around innocently, adding, "All right, those that are going, let's move 'em out!" Sna'tha snorts amusedly. Roy also snorts at the little jab, but it's lost in the noise of heavy hooves on the wooden planking as he leads the two big horses out of the hold. Once they're back up top, Ohkwa and Roy get them hitched back to the wagon. Suraksha moves up behind Roy, and the first he knows of her presence is her fingers running lightly and ticklishly up his sides, followed by her infectious giggle and a whispered, "Do you put on airs, mmm?"

Roy laughs quietly and reaches to grab her wrists and pull her arms around his waist, "Only when it's appropriate. I think yer just tryin' t' see if I'll putcha over my knee."

Suraksha laughs delightedly, happy to wrap her arms around him. She grins as she rests her cheek against his back, murmuring, "Mmmmaybe... and maybe I'm curious as to whether you've noticed yet Fionn's trying to pick your pocket!" She giggles as the big, good-natured horse nibbles and nudges at Roy's pockets.

Roy snorts and reaches into his pocket, producing a carrot, "Yeah, I noticed the big guy's a nudge." He offers the chunk of carrot to the Clydesdale, patting Sura's hands where they meet around his middle.

Suraksha blinks -- then relaxes against Roy, almost purring with pleasure. He brought carrots for the horses! Her opinion of her lover goes up a few notches, and she giggles as she whispers, "You know the way to Del's heart, I see -- through her beloved horses!"

Roy chuckles, stroking the big horse's nose as Ohkwa checks the last of the harnessing, "Hell, I wa'n't tryin' t'impress Del. I like horses." Suraksha smiles, releasing her hold around Roy's waist to slide around under his arm and stand next to him. She leans her head against him, still smiling as she watches. She's currently very pleased with how things are going with Roy. He grins down at her and kisses the top of her head, saying, "I was right about the shirt. Looks much nicer tucked in." He pats her on the bottom and winks before moving around to climb back up on the flatbed.

Suraksha laughs at that, her eyes sparkling, then goes and checks with Del: does she want someone to wait with her? Del assures Suraksha that she's fine with Alan and the captain. They're still sorting out livestock logistics. Suraksha nods and trots off, swinging up easily onto the big, heavy flatbed with the help of a few extended hands. Soon thereafter they are on their way back to where the caravan is currently encamped. Sna'tha, Ohkwari, and Suraksha are swiftly deep in conversation concerning logistics and finances, although Sura will gladly lean against Roy, where she's standing and holding on to the back of the driver's bench and Ohkwari's sturdy shoulder, as they drive.

Sura thinks they may be able to get all the wagons and livestock safely loaded and stowed by an hour or two before dawn, if they can set up the deck so it is being used only by those with night-sight. The sun has set by now, and Sura thinks Bear can most easily move the wagons around into place topside, if they can keep all the barge's crew either downside or unable to see in the dark. Roy has himself braced and holds onto Suraksha as she chats with her packmaster. About halfway back to the caravan he murmurs, "This ain't what I expected to keep you up all night, cherie." He sounds half amused, half exasperated, but he's not arguing. "Damn good thing all my stuff's still on the boat."

Suraksha smiles up at Roy a bit uncertainly, "On the... er, did you want to return to the boat now?"

Roy chuckles, smirking and leaning down so his voice doesn't carry past her ear, "See, my original plan was t' take you back t' the boat wi' me and spend a couple hours bein' stupidly masculine an' remindin' ya why it's nicer bein' wi' me than George."

Suraksha laughs softly, bringing a hand up to gently cup Roy's cheek. She murmurs fondly, "Silly man. I already know that. If you want to impress me, though, it's here and now, when I need help for my family, that I'd love to have you." She leans back enough so she can see his face, adding with a quietly neutral expression -- so she doesn't influence him either way, "What works for you?"

He shifts one hand to press low on her stomach, pulling her close back against his hips. It's clear he's enjoying having her this close, even if they are doing the boring and necessary stuff, "I figured I'd stick close, help out a little. You ain't gotta daddy around fer me t'convince I'm trustworthy to have courtin' his l'il girl, so I guess I'll just hafta spread it out a bit."

Suraksha blinks at that comment regarding her daddy, then snorts -- then tosses her head back and laughs delightedly! When the others give her amused and inquiring glances, Sura says cheerfully, "You're a lovely man, Ro- Rattler! But it's not my daddy you have to worry about." She grins up at him, her eyes sparkling, and Ohkwari snorts amusedly, turning back to driving the Clydesdales. Roy grins and hugs her tightly. Sna'tha smiles slowly, her compound eyes glittering slightly in the darkness. She nods once to Roy, murmuring, "Good man," before she too turns back to face forward.

Once back at the caravan, Roy gives Suraksha a long and hungry kiss and then turns to Sna'thaid, "Point me where ya need me, ma'am." Jacko is already busy with Sabrina and Joe, the scar-faced captain's muscular bulk a welcome addition to the group as he helps swing heavy luggage up to be strapped to various caravans and wagons. Those that aren't physically capable of doing the hard work serve as runners and gofers. Daniel and Sabrina work with Buddy to make sure everyone is fed and watered properly, animal and humanoid alike.

Suraksha ducks into her wagon to make sure it is packed and strapped down -- it is; her people take care of her -- then steps out and gets things rolling. Ohkwari has already told her how he wants the wagons arranged on deck: living quarters in the center, heavy loads equally spaced around the sides -- and she gets people lined up and ready to go. As always happens, there's at least one wagon which has trouble, physically or with the animals drawing it, and Sura assigns more people to work on that one as she gets the front end of the long line winding through the night towards the docks. Because of the wedding the streets are still well-lit and somewhat crowded, so the caravan must take back routes, driving cautiously. Suraksha sends Ohkwari with the first wagons so he can shift to bear form and move wagons into place while the livestock is tucked away down below. She keeps an eye on the remaining wagons, making sure they all keep moving.

Roy doesn't seem too fazed by the late night, but does drink rather a lot of Buddy's very strong coffee. He's obviously not used to this sort of labor. Still, the most complaining he does is under his breath, and mostly about his own condition rather than the actual work. When Jacko pauses to ask him if he's OK, the king smirks, "My feet feel three damn sizes too big an' my back fuckin' hates me, but I've done worse fer love of a girl."

Del glances over from where she's backing Amanda the camel between the traces of Sura's wagon, and laughs, "Yeah? Like what?" Buddy is padding by with hot food for Suraksha, and he pauses too, looking curious.

Roy snorts and says, "Ever been 'gator huntin'? Y'go at night, 'cause they're sluggish then. The gal's daddy made gator-skin boots an' shoes an' other stuff. Still got a sheath he gave me."

The others laugh, and Buddy holds out the food to Roy, "Here. Make sure she eats. She forgets, when we're starting to roll." Del grins teasingly at Buddy as she stoops and buckles the girths about the complacently cud-chewing camel, "You're spoilin' 'im, Bud!" The burly man simply hmfs and turns, heading back to his chuckwagon as he grumbles, "Girl's gotta eat, dinky li'l thing like that." He doesn't mention how much he likes seeing Suraksha so glowingly happy when Roy's around.

Roy grins and takes the food, calling after Buddy, "I'll hunt 'er down." He goes to do just that, carrying the meal through the caravan and looking for Suraksha. He's actually whistling quietly to himself.

Suraksha comes trotting down the line, Alg and some huge dogs frisking excitedly about her and making her look smaller than usual. Her voice is clear and calm as she calls, "Keep 'em moving, folks, keep moving! Stick to your assigned wagons and follow the one ahead of you!" She flashes a grin at Roy, adding in a normal voice as she passes by, "Rattler, if you're falling-down tired, climb into the wagon with the roses and peacock feathers painted on the sides -- there's a bunk in it you can use. If you see Jacko, tell him Sabrina has a free bunk for him too." She's continuing to stride along the line of waiting and preparing wagons, studying them intently for any potential problems, pausing to give a hand when needed.

Roy laughs and scoops an arm around her waist, "Whoa-whoa-whoa, ma'am. I have been given an assignment and that cook o' yours is too damn big fer me to wanna cross."

Suraksha blinks startledly up at Roy, one hand coming up to grab his sleeve and brace herself, "Buddy? What's wrong? Chuckwagon having an issue?" She glances around, already assessing who is available who might help.

Roy laughs and says, "Naw. Chuckwagon's fine, but I have been told to make sure you sit that lovely little ass down and eat." He presents the tin plate of food with a flourish.

Suraksha blinks at Roy again, then relaxes a bit, "Oh, got'cha. 'S all right, I'm not really hungry." She's studying the wagons carefully again, and she calls, "Minta, you're top heavy to the left -- check your springs!" then glances up at Roy again a bit impatiently, waiting for him to release her.

Roy arches a brow and says, "Cherie, I don't care if yer hungry right now 'er not. Yer gonna eat now so you don't pass out later -- an' I'll be damn cross with ya if ya don't." He grins, "'Sides, you really wanna send me back to that mountain of a cook with this plate and bad news?"

Suraksha opens her mouth to give an irritated demand to be released -- then pauses as she reflects on the truth of Roy's words. She sighs, smiling ruefully, "Okay, you're right: I do tend to fall over if I push too much." She glances down the caravan line, then up at Roy -- then grins, "Walk with me?" She takes the spork Buddy has on the plate and quickly shovels a mouthful of food in, chewing hastily as she tugs Roy forward with her. The big dogs come circling back, looking very interested -- until Sura gives a small growl. Their heads and tails go politely down after that.

Roy grins and lets go, walking along with her, "Yeah, I know about that fallin' over thing. Been there a time or two. An' while the part about perkin' ya back up can be fun, I really think ya'd rather just keep goin'." Suraksha giggles, her mouth full and her eyes dancing as she glances back at him -- then she continues pacing swiftly alongside the caravan. She keeps shoveling in food as she goes, and once or twice she taps Roy and points at something so he'll mention it to the folks on that wagon -- since she's eating as fast as she can.

Roy serves as her voice and her hands as he saunters along with her. He seems comfortable climbing on the wagons and even teases some of the people playfully, giving them something to smile about during the rush of getting things loaded. Suraksha is absolutely delighted by the time she's finished her meal and reached the last wagon -- Buddy's chuckwagon. She happily hugs Roy and Buddy both, thanking them for taking such good care of her, and leans against Roy for a moment as she proudly tells Buddy of how helpful he's been. After that she helps Buddy double check he's all packed, makes sure his assistants are ready and the four oxen are neatly yoked up -- then starts up the other side of the wagon train. This is pretty much her job right now: making sure everyone is moving smoothly, locked and loaded, and not holding up the line. Roy gets co-opted for help by Sabrina after that and he kisses Suraksha briefly before striding off to help the still-lovely woman with getting the harnesses on her horses fixed.

It's well into the wee hours of the morning before the last wagon is rolling its way onto the barge. The barge's crew are awake and helping get things settled, but they were absent through most of the night. Suraksha is pleased to see how well the wagons are arranged so far: Ohkwa's made sure the sturdy perimeter ones are the ones using Captain Al's chains, and the smaller living wagons circle inside those. Because she can see in the dark, Sura can tell there's a massive ursine form out on the deck carefully pushing the last few wagons into place with the other night-sighted folk. The people from the caravan have made sure all the flaring torches are on the docks proper, and all the hooded lanterns are down below, so the barge's crew can see to help with the livestock -- but not on deck. Sura trots over to check on Ohkwa and the others, making sure they're all fine before she heads below to check on Del's current demesne.

Jacko is starting to look decidedly tired, but Roy is still going as strong as any of the caravaneers. Of course, Buddy's coffee has a great deal to do with that, as does his reluctance to leave Suraksha still awake and go to bed himself. To him, this is an important part of courting her. Suraksha smiles and sends Jacko to bed by the simple expedient of sicc'ing Sabrina on him -- the lovely woman has put most of the younger folk to bed already too. Sura is interested to see how well Roy is holding up, energy-wise -- it matches her (purely anecdotal) evidence that Taps are sturdier than non-Taps.

She darts downstairs to see how Del is doing, and is casually shoo'd back up topside -- the Sileni woman has every animal under her jurisdiction bedded down and contentedly chewing on a flake of hay. Sura laughs, thanks everyone there, waves folks off to bed... then heads back to the deck. Ohkwa is human again, and he gives her a hug, informing her in his quiet, growly voice that they seem to be done, and the guards are set... so she should go to bed! Suraksha sighs tiredly, leaning against her wagon and smiling up at Ohkwari, "Everyone checked and accounted for?" She glances around, absently running one hand in a caress over Alg's head, where the goblin is curled up asleep on his comfy cushion on her tiny porch, adding, "Where's Rattler?"

Okhwari grins and tips his head toward her cabin, "In there, I think. Said something about a hot water bottle and some chocolate. Don't know where he's going to get the hot water."

Suraksha blinks curiously at her door, then smiles up at Ohkwari. She stands on tiptoes to give him a 'thank you' peck on the cheek -- the hulking man has to lean a bit so she can reach -- and tiredly wishes him a good night. After that she climbs up her small stairs and slips into her tiny wagon, looking around curiously. What could Roy want with a hot water bottle? Are his feet or back damaged? She looks a little worried at that thought.

The cot in the wagon is folded down and there are a couple of travel lanterns lit around the room. Sitting with his back at the head of the bed and his legs crossed at the ankles, and not a stitch on except his boots, is Roy. He grins and holds up the mug he's holding, "A little birdie tole me you like hot chocolate."

Suraksha blinks at Roy... then laughs! Even tired, her eyes light up at sight of Roy, and she swiftly strips out of her clothing, leaving it in a pile on the floor, so she can crawl onto the cot with him. She can't really reach where the clothes belong, and she'd really like to be cuddling just now! She settles carefully against Roy, between his legs and with her back to his chest if he'll let her. She sighs contentedly, leaning her head against him as she says, "Smart birdie... 'n smart us. We're all packed -- we won't hold you up at all now."

Roy shifts to let her do just that, wrapping his arms around her loosely and resting his cheek against the top of her head, "It'll be a smooth ride down. Don' worry. I'll be keepin' a lookout. 'Course, I'll need ta rest before then. The Lady feels pretty calm, anyway."

Suraksha accepts the mug of hot chocolate almost greedily, murmuring, "Mmm, you wonderful man! You can have my baby if you keep me in hot chocolate like this." She giggles, then has a decadently appreciative sip.

Roy mmms and breathes in through his nose, enjoying the smell of skin and hard-earned sweat and musk about her, and the way it mixes with the smell of the hot chocolate. "Guess I'll hafta buy a cocoa plantation then. That shit's expensive."

Suraksha sighs blissfully, raising her head just enough to nuzzle against Roy and murmur, "We'll get'cha back on th' Proud Mary tomorrow, no worries. You want to stay for the party, return after that with Jacko 'n Sna'tha? Or go back right 'way?"

He asks a little drowsily, "Party?"

Suraksha laughs softly, tilting her head back enough to brush a gentle kiss against Roy's chin. She has another sip, then offers him some as well, as she murmurs, "We always have a party the first night out of a really big gig, 'n this one was a doozie. Lets us use up last of the fresh fruit, meat, whatever we got, t' celebrate doin' good and making a lot of money... and then sleep late the next day." She grins, "So tomorrow we'll double-check everything's snugged down good, and tomorrow night we'll party... and then we'll just settle for the trip. Prob'ly be a lot of laundry, re-painting, touch-ups on costumes 'n props, that sort of thing."

Roy sips the cocoa and then proceeds to kiss along her neck lazily, "Will I have to wear a tux, or can I just come as I am? If I can wear my boots and cut loose, I'll be here."

Suraksha chuckles, "Lady, no! No formality. We'll bring out all our instruments and there'll be dancing, singing, playing around, that sort of thing." Amusedly she adds, "If I walked out in formal-wear, half the folk here wouldn't know what to do with me!"

Roy grins against her neck and murmurs, "I would."

Suraksha shivers contentedly at the soft brush of Roy's lips on her throat, adding a bit huskily, "Mmm... feels lovely, sweetheart..." She laughs at his comment, then yawns hugely... then grins tiredly, "Jus' playin' t'morrow. Really." Roy murmurs something that's not entirely easy to understand and snuggles with the happily exhausted Suraksha. Despite a few teasing caresses and several lovely kisses, neither of them has the energy to consummate the flirtation. Instead, Roy finds himself playing mattress to a happily sleeping Suraksha... and is happy to drift off himself with her asleep atop him.
