February 8

Feb 8 2004

Frangipani beams up at Lotte and pats the pretty redhead's pale hand with her own wrinkled brown one. "Thanks, dear girl. I couldn't have done it without your help... the kittens needed music to wake to life." Behind the mage, a sturdy fruit tree bears buds and... thick pods ending in kitten heads. The ones that are awake follow Lotte with their eyes and chirp charming little mews for attention and petting. Every kitten is identical in form but not in color; their fur and eyes show a rainbow of improbable hues.

The little brown mage sighs. "I do miss my old Tomtom, but he'd'a been happy to father so many kittens... and him fixed, too." She winks broadly.

Frangipani goes to gently pet one of the wakeful kittens. "Can't wait til you're ready, sweethearts... I promise, I'll take good care of your tree."

Lotte smiles at the mage and at the odd little kitten tree behind her. "I'm glad to have been able to help. I hope you enjoy them once they've blossomed. Please do take care of the tree just as much as these little dears; they'll last longer that way.

Lotte continues, "I hope you don't mind about the colors... I know old Tom was white, but I just couldn't help myself." She grins sheepishly.

Frangipani grins up at the taller bard and says, "Oh, I don't mind you making them pretty one bit. I loved my old cat, but these won't really be him, y'know. Just the only way I had of getting the next generation in his memory. I don't think he'd mind either. It'll be a heckuva lot easier to tell 'em apart if they're not all white, eh?"

The little woman adds, "Anyrate. I'd ask you if you wanted one if you didn't have your good Ghost. I appreciate the help that much. If you ever need a cat, well, come back by. The tree only bears that fruit once, but... this time I'm having extras, heh heh."

Lotte nods and grins again. "Well, enjoy. I'm so glad I could help you." She glances fondly at Ghost and then looks back to Frangipani. "I don't suppose I could join my friends soon?"

Ghost waves her tail silently and 'smiles' up at her self-appointed bipedal charge. Frangipani chuckles and says, "Right now if you like. Get your things and meet me back here. I have, ah... a fix on any of them, through the little bits they left me. Which one do you want to pop up next to?"

Lotte thinks a moment. 'Better to show up around Steven. Who knows what Aiden and Sol are up to, and Seodil might not react well to a suprise.' She replies, "I suppose I should join Steven."

Frangipani nods, and when Lotte is ready the mage opens a portal of golden light that leaves Lotte feeling a little unsteady on her feet up to her shoulders in a warm pool. Ghost makes a very indignant "Rouff!" and scrambles to dry land-- the moss-covered edge of what appears to be a heated lounging pool in the middle of a dimly lit suite. Mossy couches, two, are near the pool, and Steven is staring at Lotte in some startlement. He, unlike the soaking wet bard, is not wearing clothes.

Steven pauses maybe about half a second before he's a splashing mess as he scrables to to get out of the pool and into some clothes. For a brief, terrified moment he thought it was one of the elven women making a surprise arrival but the red hair let him realize who it was. Still wouldn't ahve changed his reaction, though.

Lotte yelps and then breaks out into laughter! She sputters, "And I thought suprising the others would be a bad idea!"

Aiden blinks, and says the word to make his door go clear on his side. He's a little worried about Steven flailing around out there. He's making enough noise, it must be bad.

Lotte climbs out of the warm water dripping wet and looks around. "Towel?"

Soleil blinks at the revealed scene, and says "Do we get her a towel, or stay here naked?"

Steven splutters, as he manages to make himself decent, "Th-the others?! Oh! Uh... sure!" He quickly passes her a towel, trying to keep the one around him from falling off.

Aiden grins, "I don't know. Do you think it's more entertaining to save her, or keep watching Steven flail around?"

Lotte laughs again. "Steven, calm down! We've been in worse situations. Remember? Naked virgin dancing?"

Seodil walks into view by the pool, naked and carrying an equally naked sword. He tilts his head and considers the situation... a smirk starts spreading on his face, but he says only "Good evening, Lotte. Safe trip?"

Steven coughs a bit, and does calm down some. "You're right, Lotte.. heh, uh, hard to forget that. I've just been.. a bit nervous lately about being surprised in situations like that.

Lotte squeezes her eyes shut and stifles even harder laughter. "Yes, it was very quick. Is it a requirement to be naked here or are you all just getting very comfortable with each other?"

Aiden chuckles at Sol, "Well, as fun as it is watching this.. shall we go and say hello?" He rolls off of the bed and grabs his pants, putting them on before he goes out. He smiles, "Lotte. Welcome back."

Without missing a beat, Seodil says calmly, "Nakedness is as good as formal clothing in Summer Court. It tends to be one or the other, in fact... did you bring any more.. formal clothes?"

Lotte shoots Seodil a wry look. "No, sorry. There wasn't a tailor between Frangipani's kittentree and the pool here." She turns to see Aiden. "Hi there!"

Aiden says, "Good to have you back. How are you?"

Lotte says, "Oh, I'm fine. Wet. Cold...""

Sol grins and waves at Lotte from Aiden's side, not wearing clothes particularly much either. "Welcome back, Lotte. We missed you."

Aiden frowns a bit. "Hm. Wonder if we have something around here that you can wear to warm up while your clothes dry.."

Soleil laughs and dashes back through the doorway he came out of, returning a moment later with two dry towels. He hands one to Lotte and one to Steven.

Steven blinks. "Kittentree...?" He shakes his head, and won't ask. Unless she asks about moving furniture, then he'll ask about kittentrees. "Yes, it's good to see you again, Lotte!"

Lotte smiles warmly at Steven. "You too, Steven."

Aiden smiles at Sol when he brings the towels over for Lotte and Steven, "Thanks, Sol."

Soleil beams at Aiden, looking oddly puffyeyed for such a clearly happy elf.

Aiden decides there's not much point in just standing around. He heads over to sit down on a vacant couch, smiling at Seodil as he does.

Lotte says, "Excuse me one moment." She disappears through one of the open doorways and returns shortly with one towel wrapped around her body and one around her head. She lays her soaking clothes on the ground to dry, then looks up at everyone. "So, what have I missed? Where are we?""

Seodil chuckles at Aiden, the only one of them wearinng pants, "And where is your formal attire, young man? You do not match." And actually winks.

Aiden grins at Seodil. "Oh. I must've left it in the other room." He winks right back. "We're in the Summer Court now, Lotte."

Sol curls up at Aiden's side on the couch.

Ghost gives Aiden a look, walks closer and shakes off on him.

Aiden, now wet, looks down at Ghost, "She did that on purpose.." He laughs. "Well. We know where her sense of humour stands." He stays in his wet pants, just to spite her.

Lotte makes an 'oops' face and removes the towel from her head. She gestures to Ghost, offering to dry her fur.

Ghost parts her jaws and wolf-laughs at Aiden, waving her tail gently, then pads graciously over to accept Lotte's offer, eyes shutting.

Aiden watches Ghost pad away, "I'll find a way to pay you back for that one, I promise."

Lotte kneels and covers the wolf's back with her towel, rubbing her gently until she's close to dry.

Ghost turns her head and gives Aiden a slow wink.

Aiden blinks. He thought that. She couldn't have heard his thoughts, right? "Why is every canid here is out to get me? First the talking fox.. now Ghost. I'm outnumbered."

Steven glances to his bedroom, frowning for a moment. "I'll... be right back...." He goes to his room, and pokes his head in curiously and worriedly. I thought I heard a wooden... no, stop that. I'm starting to get paranoid.

Steven's room, when he looked, was... normal. The luggage chest did not move, walk, or show teeth.

Lotte listens to her friends fill her in on the past few days' events while she dries Ghost. Once finished, she nods and exhales. "Wow, this is going to be very interesting." She then shares her time with Frangipani, explaining about Tom the cat and the resulting kittentree.

Aiden grins, "Sounds like you had a good time, Lotte. Still, we're glad you're back. Hasn't been quite the same without you around." "To put us in our places when we start to act up. Steven and I are a walking catastrophe without you to balance us."

Steven returns to the group after a moment, guessing that the trunk was.. getting something out of it's teeth or such. Maybe a sock. He doesn't want to know. "A kittentree...?

Lotte nods. "Yes, a tree that bore kittens instead of apples." Her expression shows that the idea makes sense to her.

Aiden looks curious about this answer. He didn't want to ask, because he had so much trouble keeping a straight face when Steven and he conversed from room to room about the militant chests, that he was sure he wasn't going to even be able to say "kittentree" with so much as a semblance of seriousness.

Soleil perhaps speaks for everyone when he says "Whyyy?"

Steven says, "Oh... really? That's... uhm...." At a loss for words he sits down on an empty seat. "Why... I mean... is that just how it's done...?"

Seodil says "Was it a willow tree?"

Lotte answers, "Because her cat died and she cloned it. So she created this tree to grow the little cloned kittens on and needed my magic to help it work. Which it did. No, it was an apple tree.

Seodil nods, "Oh. Not a pussywillow, then. Indoors or outdoors?"

Aiden blinks, "Cloned cats?" "Shit.. was it Steven that said something about the bunch of us being some genetic experiment? Do we have to start checking for branches?"

Steven just looks at Seodil at that comment, wondering if he's serious.

Soleil says, "Um. What is 'cloned'?"

Lotte continues, "It was pretty cool, if I do say so myself. We created a rainbow of kittens." She blinks at Seodil and says slowly, "No... not a pussywillow. Is that how cats are usually born?"

Seodil says to Lotte, "No, they usually come from other cats. I only wondered if she was keeping it indoors and turning the Tower into a cathouse."

Aiden looks over at Soleil, "Basically, when it's done in a genetics lab, it involves taking a small sample of.." he pauses, not sure how to explain DNA. "Uhm.. material.. from the donor. It's then inserted into another cell and what is grown from it, becomes an exact replica of the first."

Lotte gives Seodil a strange look. "The tree was outdoors... I don't think I understand your meaning. What's a cathouse?"

Aiden blinks when Seodil says cathouse. He looks over at the silver elf with an unreadable expression, and then chuckles.

Steven twitches a little. He wonders if elves are really fond of puns.

Seodil looks at Lotte very seriously for a moment before he leans his head onto his hands, sitting on the couch, and starts laughing almost silently, shoulders shaking.

Soleil snorts, rolls his eyes, and tells Lotte "Ignore him. He's having his one less-than-serious night of the decade tonight, it seems."

Lotte purses her lips and raises her eyebrows, knowing she has missed a joke but still not getting it.

Sol sighs and looks straight at Lotte. "I think he was implying that a little pussy doesn't usually grow on trees."

Aiden smirks over at Seodil, fondly, then grins at Soleil, "I hope it's not the last one, either. Anyway.. cloning is basically making an exact copy of a living thing."

Ghost growls at Sol. The golden elf shrugs at the wolf and says, "I didn't start it." Turning back to Aiden and Lotte, Sol says "Oh.. sort of like twins, or do they grow up with the ..er, 'donor's' memories?"

Lotte looks rather shocked. "Great. I'm gone a few days and suddenly he has a sense of humor. And you..." she looks at Aiden, then decides against finishing her thought.

Aiden shakes his head, "No, they don't, and they grow at the same rate as the donor, so, a child would grow normally for a child. Memories don't carry over, nothing carries over except the shape." He looks over at Lotte, cocking his head to the side, "And I what?"

Sol eyes Aiden for a moment, then doesn't say whatever it was.

Aiden glances around suspiciously. "What am I missing here? Why do people keep not finishing sentances around me?"

Sol says, "It's probably the smell."

Lotte shakes her head. "It's just that... things are changing so fast."

Seodil recovers from his silent laughter and says more soberly, "Lotte, I have a brother."

Steven nods at Seodil's comment, and says, "You were saying about changing fast, Lotte...?"

Aiden nods at Lotte. "Feel like it's been years since you left." He glances over at Sol, then stands up. "I can take a hint." He walks off into his bedroom, closing the door behind him. He strips off his pants and looks for another pair, changing into them before he goes back out and sits back down on the couch.

Lotte nods. "I know. It's just strange to see you... happy. And I'm still getting used to you two." She looks over at Sol and Aiden. "It just seems like yesterday we were all prickly pears trying to work together. I just get... suspicious."

The silver elf smiles at Lotte, a small but real thing, and says, "When we arrived here, many things we had taken for granted changed. We have had a few days to get used to the changes, but you have not. I will try to remember that."

Lotte smiles back, taking everyone in. "It's not that I'm not very glad to see you all. And I am very glad to see Seodil happy. Maybe I just need some rest and everything will make more sense in the morning."

Soleil adds quietly, welcoming Aiden back a glance and a wink, "We pulled together here because we had to, Lotte... things are very odd, we don't fit in, and I think someone's out to get us. Or we're being hidden from someone. We kind of realized we had to work together or all fall separately."

Aiden nods at Seodil's words when he comes back in, "Lotte, if something confuses you, or you have questions, don't hesitate to ask, okay? We're used to being together a lot and so we might just assume that you were there, because it's comfortable having you around."

Steven nods quietly at Soleil's words, then again at Aiden. "Definitely. There are a lot of odd things going on here. Especially.. you probably shouldn't wander around too much, Lotte, at least not without a guide. Some of the gardens here are dangerous." To say nothign of the furni-- oh stop that!

Seodil nods, "There is an empty bedroom at the far end. The last doorway on your right. It will be yours, Lotte." He adds a few words in a foreign language, and explains that they are "open" and "shut" for the magic doorway. As if in afterthought, he adds another one that will create bedcovers.

Aiden blinks at Seodil's last word. He makes a note to himself, because he didn't know that one either, not that he'd really noticed the lack of bedcovers.

Lotte thanks everyone with a tired smile and retires to her bedroom.

Soleil gives Aiden a sheepish look and tries to lean against him, looking a bit hangdog.

Ghost pads after Lotte.

Aiden slips an arm around Sol's shoulder when Sol leans against him.

Steven has by now calmed down much from Lotte's sudden appearance. "Well! It's definitely good to see her again. and that she's doing well.

Aiden nods at Steven, "She's back more quickly than I expected, too. Be good to have us all in one place again."

Steven nods to Aiden. "We need to let Clairchiare know in the morning that she showed up."

Aiden says, "I usually miss Clairchiare in the mornings. He always seems to appear before I'm functional."

The golden elf brightens noticeably and shuts his eyes as Aiden lets him lean and helps it happen. Sol answers Steven with closed eyes, "Yeah. It is... hm. I'll tell Clairchiare, since I have to get up." He makes a face. "He's supposedto get back to us with our appointment time with the Prince anyway, after the trophy room thing today."

Aiden says, "Oh, right. The Beetle. Is the hunt going to be tomorrow?"

Steven stifles a grin. Oh, that was something they forgot to tell Lotte about. Oops.

Sol says "Hunt's not for a few days yet, but we promised to tell them what you know about it... that part is tomorrow."

Aiden grins at Steven, "What I can't figure out is how we're going to stop it. I mean, unless it runs out of gas, I don't know how to stop a car except by hitting the brakes or turning it off."

Steven says, "I'd like to know what it's doing, actually. It should have run out of gas well before now, unless it's being driven by someone. The prince did say that whomever was in its stomach was waving...."

Sol mutters, "Maybe we can get Lotte to clone it from our trophy piece, and all ride car to chase it. Even up the speed disadvantage."

Steven looks at Sol and wonders how he can explain how that wouldn't work.

Aiden chuckles. "I'm not sure that would work. It's not alive. We'd have to build another one.."

Sol sighs, "It was just a thought. Oh well." He grins faintly. "Could clone me instead, leave one here to deal with it and the rest of us can run."

Steven thinks, Two Sols? We'd like to see Aiden out of the room sometime this century, I think.

Aiden chuckles at Sol. "Well. We're probably going to have to try to incapcitate the driver. I guess we can hope that they're not very proficient at using the car yet."

Aiden frowns, "Shit. I hope it's not actually Birch. I'd really hoped we'd never see her again."

Steven shakes his head quietly. "I don't thik Birch is alive anymore.

Soleil sighs, and nods. "I have to hope not. She did you no good."

Aiden nods at Steven and Soleil. "You're probably right. I doubt that she's managed to survive long."

Sol says, "I'm sorry to have had to say that about your sister."

Aiden shrugs, "I never considered her to be a sister. No need to apologise."

Sol squeezes Aiden's shoulder and looks sympathetically at Steven anyway. "I wasn't sure. Kin... well, Clairchiare and Seodil were pretty long-lost, but they hit it off just right as soon as they had a chance to see how alike they are." He says, "I'm both sorry and relieved it's not like that for you and Birch."

Steven nods quietly. "Birch never stopped trying to kill us. Though... I don't think we'll ever get a chance at any restitution with her. There was that vision I had of her dead, remember."

Aiden snorts, "The first time Clairchiare met Seodil, he was as polite as always. The first time Birch met us, she tried to kill us. Not exactly an endearing trait."

Seodil says, "If I see her, I will finish it... we have never met, but I confess myself less than endeared as well." He adds, "Though if Steven saw her dead, I suspect he saw true. Many things Steven has seen have been truth, after all." He nods respectfully to Steven.

Aiden nods, "I tend to believe that as well, Seodil. I'm quite certain that she is no longer alive, one way or another."
