New Title December 7The party goes quietly to sleep after Seodil incinerates the messenger bird and conversation thereafter finds itself somewhat at a standstill. Frangipani informed Steven earlier, to relay to the group, that there is no need to set a watch-- her magical wards keep the area protected. Morning comes peacefully, the group stirring. Some look better rested than others... while Steven, Seodil and Lotte managed fine on the soft grass and wake looking no worse than after a good night back at the inn, Sol has dark circles under her eyes and mutters about restless sleep. Aiden moves stiffly, as though he slept on rocks. Steven is rather seriously disturbed still by Seodil torching the messenger, and it leaves him disquieted. It happene dtoo fast for him to react, and by the time he could the bird would have been horribly burned as it was. He doesn't think Summer will take all that kindly to their messenger being flared. He wakes, then, though rested being rather uncomffortable mentally and spiritually, and proceeds about his morning ablutions. The group's day of rest is spent without a lot of interaction of much apparent intensity. Lotte speaks quietly to Soleil early on, and by the time Steven is back from hunting both of the girls and Aiden have much easier expressions, though Sol still looks tired from the worry-- or the bad dreams she admits-- and Aiden winces as he determinedly does his stretches under Seodil's instruction. Seodil leaves Aiden to help Steven with his catch-- one deer-- and when the men carry it later to Frangipani, the small mage cheerfully informs them that she requires an extra day for additional preparations ordered by the other group members. The night and next day pass much the same, with the boys doing a little hunting and again having meat Frangipani trades for gold. Seodil and Aiden spar with swords, and Seodil invites Steven to join them with his own variety of kata. The kata exchange proves quite pleasant, and the remainder of the day passes quickly, as does the next. The third sunrise brings Frangipani out of her tower to beam at the group and announce her preparations complete. Aiden stands up when Frangipani arrives, looking a bit nervous. Steven is kind of surprised to see Frangipani there, but he rouses himself awake, and wishes they had something like breakfast to offer. Unfortunately, after a steady diet of venison for the past few days, there's not much in the way of waffles or such to offer her. The small brown mage says cheerily, "Steven-- I think that you should care for this. As you've proven able to resist it unshielded, the honor and responsibility of guarding it from those unwise enough to remove your pretty little key from its cage should also fall to you." She offers an embroidered velvet drawstring bag to Steven, rich garnet cloth covered in black and gold thread runes. A few beaded charms hang from the ties at its neck. Steven blinks, and swallows, a little nervously. He nods. "I'll.. do the best I can, ma'am." he's not entirely happy to still be in possession of the key, but someone has to carry it, after all, it won't get to where it needs to go on its own.. and if it could, he's certain that wouldn't be preferable. He acepts the bag gingerly, tucking it deep into his pack. "Thank you, ma'am. This is arelief to have it in its... cage. Frangipani smiles her wrinkly smile at Steven, then turns to hand Soleil a small vial of what looks like water. "Douse your head with this, and off it comes, pretty one." She also hands Soleil a red pendant on a neckchain and smiles. Soleil looks crashingly relieved, and actually tilts a little as if uncertain of her balance. Aiden looks infinitely relieved when Frangipani starts handing items to Soleil.. He reaches out a hand to steady Sol and catch her if she does pitch over. Sol gives Aiden a quick smile and straightens on her own before she needs the hand. The mage Frangipani looks at Lotte, and says generally "Is everyone packed? Ready to go?" Aiden looks around, "Not completely, but we can be fairly quickly, Ma'am. Thank you for all of your help.. and for bringing the items out here." Frangipani nods, "Oh, you're welcome. Pack up then-- Lotte and I have decided to shorten your journey to Sindinbrigh'. I'll wait here, if you're gonna be quick about it... it takes both of us. She did mention she'll be staying with me awhile to help out with a little research, yes?" She gives Soleil and Aiden a significant look; Sol blushes and smiles gratefully at Lotte. Aiden shoots a likewise grateful look at Lotte. "Certainly. We shouldn't be more than a few minutes.." He glances around at their camp. "Maybe ten.." Steven blinks, and smiles to Lotte quietly. "Thank you, Lotte. We'll.. uh...." He frowns a bit. "Not sure how we'll keep in touch, but we'll try to," Lotte smiles. "Frangipani says she'll send me to join you after a few days. She can find the items she made and get a magical kind of fix on them-- so don't drop them if you want to see me again!" Aiden nods at Lotte, smiling, "We'll miss you while you're gone, Lotte, and look forward to seeing you again." He starts doing his part to break down the camp, packing whatever was out of his pack - not much, admittedly - and making sure that the fire is cool and not likely to spark. Steven grins quietly. "We certainly won't. Thank you again, Lotte. We'll look forward to seeing you again. Lotte smiles shyly, and then suddenly everyone is ready and things start moving too fast for long goodbyes. The redheaded bard turns to the mage and starts to sing, as Frangipani raises her short arms and chants, and a glowing haze appears between them, three feet wide and six feet tall... the portal clears with a snap that can be felt to the bone, and what was clear space is now a jarring look into a different place entirely-- a wide city street, with passersby and beautifully built shops, all the wood in fanciful arches and most of it gilded. The passersby are starting to stop and stare... Steven glances to the others. "Nothing like making an entrance...." Aiden grins at Steven, "I was about to say the same thing. Shall we?" Seodil says dryly, "Unless we wish to wait and see if we can attract the local police on our very first day in town, I think moving now might be wise." Steven nods, and after takig a breath walks forward through the gate. Soleil just nods quietly, shouldering her pack, and follows Steven through the gate. Aiden grabs his pack from near his feet, shoulders it and walks through following Soleil. Immediately after Seodil brings up the rear, the gate snaps out of sight, leaving the group four strong on a foreign city street in what is clearly an affluent section of town... as several well-armed and husky individuals start making their way across the plaza in their direction, aided by pointing passersby in a rainbow of velvets and silken fans. Steven murmurs, "Speaking of police...."
